This dynamic workplace works closely with technologists, anesthesia, and proceduralists as patient needs are ever-changing. This role involves patient assessment, preparation, and monitoring during and after procedures, ensuring a safe and efficient environment. is responsibility for administration of moderate sedation and other medications, hemodynamic monitoring, assessment, as well as the management of care during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Essential Functions

Completes direct patient pre-procedure assessment for sedation. This includes the following: assessment of the patient's medical and surgical history, ASA classification, NPO status, pertinent labs, and sedation plan with primary documentation. Verifies Universal Protocol Part 1 is complete and notifies department and/or physician doing procedure of any missing information. Reports and documents findings. Gathers pertinent records needed for procedures such as: History and Physical, Lab reports, and Medication Record. Anticipates and/or predicts changes and modifies any care delivered to best meet the needs of the patient. Incorporates patient preferences, concerns, and special needs into daily work schedule. Establishes overt/covert needs as well as anticipated needs related to the diagnosis. Monitors patient throughout the stay. Utilizes ALDRETE score consistently. Follows Infection Control policies and procedures on all patients.
Maintains safe working environment. Knows the location and use of emergency equipment. Demonstrated competency of annual departmental competencies. Provides dedicated, strategic, and clinical leadership to nursing services across the Radiology and Cardiac Catheterization (Cath) Lab units. Ensures the safe, effective, and patient-centered delivery of care in these high-acuity procedural environments, aligning nursing operations with institutional priorities around quality, access, and staff engagement. Oversees daily operations, staffing, performance improvement initiatives, and regulatory compliance. This includes direct supervision of registered nurses and collaborative support of other patient care staff, ensuring nursing practice adheres to current evidence-based guidelines and institutional standards. The Nurse Manager also collaborates closely with directors, radiologists, cardiologists, proceduralists, and nursing leadership across the hospital to optimize interdisciplinary workflows and patient outcomes. The Nurse Manager is responsible for the continuous development and evaluation of a comprehensive nursing program that spans Radiology and Cath Lab procedural services. The role also contributes to strategic planning, including capital resource allocation and quality/safety improvement strategies including strategic service line growth in Cardiology. The University of Iowa Health Care department of Radiology is seeking a Staff Nurse to assess patients' nursing care needs, evaluate effectiveness of care provided, and integrate nursing theory and research into clinical practice. Provide leadership to members of the nursing team to maintain patient care standards.
Duties Include:
- Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
- Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations.
- Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
- Provide pre, intra- and post procedure nursing care (assessment, monitoring, intervention and education) related to diagnostic and interventional procedures.
- Assist in the collection of arterial and venous blood samples.
- Procedural sedation including administering medication, patient monitoring, patient transport, recovery, provide patient and family education training, and patient follow up information.
- Prepare daily patient workup for next day scheduled patients.
- Accurately complete, document, and file required daily/nightly/monthly equipment checks and audits.
- A resource for the other modalities within Radiology as needed.
- Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response/education.
- Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan.
- Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care.
- Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follows universal precautions.
- Demonstrate acceptance of responsibility; pride in work performed; flexibility in acceptance of assignments while consistently maintaining professional behavior and appearance.
- Follow policies and procedures in accordance with regulations set forth by the University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Nursing, Department of Radiology, and the University of Iowa.

Educational Requirements :
- An Associate degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing, Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, or master's degree in Nursing (MNHP or MSN).
- 1 year of current nursing experience or recent nursing graduate within last 6 months.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and limited resources.
- Demonstration of strong organizational skills and time management.
- Demonstrated competency in conscious sedation administration, patient management, recovery, and EKG interpretation.
- Current license to practice nursing in Iowa.
- BLS Certification.
- ACLS Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- 1-3 years' experience with procedural sedation.

- Professional nursing certification.
