Description

The Leir Institute for Migration and Human Security at the Fletcher School, Tufts University seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow to serve as the Americas Research Director of a two-year project entitled "Securization without Security: How Migration is Shaping the Global Order." Funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the project examines whether and how the securitization of migration by the United States and Europe is making the world less safe by: (1) fueling a loss of state authority to non-state actors embedded in illicit political economies along migratory routes; and (2) enabling transit states to extract concessions by weaponizing migrants and refugees. Competitive candidates will have a proven track record in independent research, strong written and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish, and fieldwork experience, ideally in Latin America. They will also have good organizational skills, the ability to manage a team, and comfort interacting with high-level policymakers and practitioners. Their areas of expertise should include some combination of the following with a focus on the Americas:

* Irregular migration and displacement

* Immigration and asylum policy

* Borders and border policy

* Migration governance and diplomacy

* Illicit political economy

We also encourage candidates with the following skills or experience:

* Other languages, especially Haitian Creole

* GIS and/or other mapping or visualization tools

* Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications

* Website development

The Leir Postdoctoral Fellow will be under the direct supervision of Professor Katrina Burgess, Leir Director and Project Investigator. The postdoc will collaborate regularly with other members of the Leir team, including faculty, staff, and student research assistants, as well as the Glasgow-based Project Investigator, Professor Gerasimos Tsourapas, and his team. Their specific responsibilities will include the following:

*Supervising and contributing to desk research

*Assisting with the design, supervision, and implementation of summer field work, including the IRB application

*Conducting data analysis (mostly qualitative but ideally also GIS mapping)

*Preparing policy briefs, blog posts, and academic papers

*Planning and participating in workshops in Mexico City and Medford (Tufts)

*Interacting with high-level policymakers, practitioners, journalists, and academics

*Arranging and participating in briefings with policymakers in the United States, Latin America, and/or Europe

*Assisting with the project's website and social media outreach

Salary is $62,000. Postdocs are also eligible for paid time off, health and dental insurance, and other benefits. The fellowship is for two years with a starting date of January/ February 2025 with the option to work remotely while relocating to the Boston area.

Our User Researcher will work with product and design teams to scope, craft, and conduct user research to generate actionable insights that guide the future of the business and ensure our products and services meet the everyday needs of our users. What We'll Expect From You:
  • BS or MS in Interaction Design, Cognitive Science, HCI, Anthropology, Psychology, or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years' experience planning, conducting, and communicating the findings from user research for digital products and services, ideally with a focus on technical users
  • A strong ability to understand and articulate user needs, as well as to generate and communicate compelling & actionable insights
  • A strong understanding of the digital product lifecycle and the ability to collaborate successfully with designers, technical & business teams
  • Proven knowledge of an array of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and how to combine them to generate the most actionable insights

The time horizon for the Research team is forward focused between 12 and 18 months. The core challenges will be to identify and develop strategic, innovative and disruptive solutions for Schneider Electric and its customer by leveraging the Schneider DNA and cutting-edge AI/ML technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership for an entire project workstream or work with your colleagues jointly on a bigger project.
  • Work with Schneider Electric Business Units and Partners on applied AI research or innovation projects.
  • Develop Next Generation AI and Data Products together with Schneider Electric Clients and Partners
  • Research and survey industrial reports and technical papers on latest industrial trends, case studies, models and methodologies in the areas of team's research.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Economics.
  • Three or more years of AI research experience for Ph.D. candidates and more than 5 years for master's candidates
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in at least one of the following - Supervised and Unsupervised Learning, Classification Models, Cluster Analysis, Neural Networks, Non-parametric Methods, Multivariate Statistics, Reliability Models, Markov Models, Stochastic models, Bayesian Models, Genetic Algorithms, Inference Systems
  • Experience with deep learning architecture and models such as CNN/RNN/LSTM/Transformer, time series, graph neural networks.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in various statistical and machine learning models, data mining, unstructured data analytics in corporate or academic research environments
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in data science workflows and methodologies, and tools such as Python, MATLAB, C++, Java, SQL, Visual Studio Code, Jupyter Notebooks, TensorFlow, PyTorch.
  • Experience with and knowledge of Microsoft Azure, AWS, or other cloud platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

Main Responsibilities:

  • Create the clinical development strategy for one or more assets and document it in the clinical development plan in collaboration with the global project team and internal partners such as clinical operations, translational medicine, regulatory affairs, biostatistics, drug discovery, drug safety, marketing.

  • Advance the CDP through internal management review.

  • Leads a clinical subteam to design clinical studies and to create an abbreviated and full clinical study protocol.

About You

Basic Qualifications:

  • Medical Doctor. Should be board certified or equivalent in dermatology or allergy/immunology.

  • Must have completed education and training at a medical school that meets the requirements of the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or equivalent.

  • More than 5 years of clinical or scientific and/or more than >10 years industry experience within the field of dermatology.

  • Strong scientific and academic background within clinical research, pharmaceutical experience or experimental medicine experience in the respective therapeutic area preferred.

  • Knowledge of drug development preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, negotiation and networking skills in a cross-cultural global environment.

  • Performance oriented with ability to work along agreed timelines and a focus on strategy and execution.

  • Outstanding communicator. Excellent problem-solving, conflict-resolution and decision-making skills.
