GCG is currently seeking an Application Engineer to join our Automation & Factory Solutions division in the Indianapolis, IN area . This role supports a key region and will provide technical, pre-sales, and post-sales support for automation controls and related technologies.

As our Automation & Robotics Application Engineer, you will work closely with the local sales team, customers, and engineering partners to provide technical and application support in both pre - and post-sale of Factory Automation ( PLC, or Programmable Logic Controllers, HMI, or Human Machine Interfaces , Control Software, etc.) , Robotics ( CoBot , or Collaborative Robots, and Industrial Robot ) , and related Safety product s . . You'll also participate in product training, lead customer demonstrations, and collaborate with the broader technical team to drive automation solutions in a highly collaborative environment.

While this role offers a hybrid work arrangement, approximately 30% travel would be required to facilitate onsite visits to customer sites both during and following sales processes to lend support with product related questions and demonstrations. Said travel would primarily be, but not limited to, a 100 mile radius surrounding the Greater Indianapolis area.

What you'll do

• Provide technical and application support in both pre- and post-sale efforts for a broad range of industrial automation technologies, including:

• PLCs, HMIs, drives, motion control, robotics, IO systems, and fluid power components

• Collaborate with the sales team to assist in specifying the right components for projects and create accurate bills of materials

• Deliver technical presentations and product demonstrations to customers in coordination with the sales team

• Lead or assist with customer training sessions on automation and electrical control systems

• Utilize vendor software tools to size, select, and quote appropriate automation components

• Provide troubleshooting support and assist customers with product integration and commissioning

• Work cross-functionally with customer service, operations, and product teams to ensure seamless service delivery

What will you do as a Field Application Engineer (Liberty Robotics)?

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Field Applications Engineer to join Liberty Robotics, a leader in cutting-edge 3D volumetric machine vision technology. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, servicing, and technical support of our advanced machine vision solutions in automotive assembly plants and similar high-precision factory environments.

The ideal candidate is a problem-solver with a strong background in both mechanical engineering and computer skills, with a passion for travel, independence, and delivering top-tier quality work to customers. 

• Assist in installing and servicing 3D machine vision systems in diverse manufacturing environments, primarily in automotive assembly plants.

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues on-site and on-call ensuring customer satisfaction.

• Support the assembly, maintenance, and testing of our products along with admin duties (shipping and receiving product) at our main office.

• Learn to operate industrial 6-axis robots.

• Travel 50% of the time to customer sites across the U.S., including Mexico and Canada( occasional weekend and holiday travel may be necessary).

• Complete technical documentation and field reports in a timely and precise manner.

• Provide customer support and technical training, ensuring all equipment meets performance standards.

• Collaborate with internal teams to improve product performance and customer experience.

What do you need to be successful?

• Experience working with robotics, controls, sensors, or similar factory automation environments.

• Familiarity with electronic assembly, cable routing, camera settings, and optical physics and schematic reading.

• Technical writing and experience in field service or customer support.

• Prior work in manufacturing, particularly in the automotive sector would be an asset.

• Any experience with machine vision, and infrared wavelength technologies would be an asset.

• Technical degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics, or similar) would be an asset

• Authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer.

• Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Amazon Robotics automates fulfillment center operations using various methods of robotic technology including autonomous mobile robots, sophisticated control software, language perception, power management, computer vision, depth sensing, machine learning, object recognition, and semantic understanding of commands. Amazon Robotics has a dedicated focus on research and development to continuously explore new opportunities to extend its product lines into new areas.
Amazon Robotics' full-time opportunity will be based out of the Greater Boston Area or the Greater Seattle Area. Both campuses provide a unique opportunity to have direct access to robotics testing labs and manufacturing facilities.
A day in the life
As a Software Engineer, you will:
- Identify and develop software solutions to current business problems
- Work with your manager and team to create milestones and deliverables
- Participate in daily scrums and reviews with development teams
- Develop documentation and lead reviews with other engineers
- Write code and unit tests and integrate code with other software and hardware components
- Prototype and test concepts or features, both through simulation tools and emulators and with live robotic equipment
- Work directly with customers to test software prototypes and incorporate feedback
- Utilize Amazon Robotics and Amazon engineering tools, processes and technologies
Basic Qualifications
- Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
- Bachelor's degree in computer science related fields OR 1+ years equivalent experience in software development
- Graduation date is before June 2025
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building software applications through internships, course projects, hackathons or personal projects
- Proficient oral and written communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse, talented team
- Experience with creative problem solving and articulating technical challenges and solutions
- Exposure to any of the following concepts: AWS and other Web Technologies, schedulers, workflows, state machines, multi-threading, and networking protocols
- Interest in Robotics including coursework or clubs

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $99,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $200,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
