Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of progressive EHS experience, with at least 1-2 years specifically in the mining, heavy industrial, or construction sector.
  • Strong knowledge of MSHA, OSHA, EPA regulations, and other relevant EHS standards.
  • Proven experience in EHS program development, implementation, and auditing.
  • Certifications such as CSP, CHST, ASP, or equivalent are highly desirable.

**What does the position do?**

Job Summary

Develop, implement, and manage the operational aspects of the Georgia Tech Zero Waste program with a focus on minimizing the cost of recycling and waste programs. Provide leadership in waste management operations, focusing on analysis and logistics, and in coordination with the sustainability team. Develop and utilize performance metrics to ensure program success and continuous improvement. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing performance, and providing feedback. Regular interaction with facility managers, recycling contact persons (RCPs), vendors, project managers, and Operation & Maintenance team. Supervise Campus Recycling employees and ensure the successful and cost-effective operational delivery of goals.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Manage and Optimize Waste Management Services: Oversee and optimize contracts and/or internally provided services for waste management, including recycling and composting, to ensure compliance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

Job Duty 2 -
Execute Zero Waste Program: Implement comprehensive recycling, reuse, and zero waste processes across campus in coordination with the sustainability team.

Job Duty 3 -
Supervise and Optimize Waste Management Team: Lead and counsel the Zero Waste Management team to optimize routes, maximize effectiveness, and increase waste diversion, ensuring achievement of waste minimization targets.

Job Duty 4 -
Financial Management: Understand the finances of the waste management team, work to minimize costs, and prepare and administer the annual budget, including managing timesheets and overseeing staff meetings.

Job Duty 5 -
Logistics and Process Optimization: Design and optimize logistics for waste collection, sorting, and transportation. Apply industrial engineering principles to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure timely waste processing and disposal.

Job Duty 6 -
Technical Analysis: Perform technical analyses in areas such as life cycle assessment, material management, upstream reduction strategies, downstream infrastructure and service design, and end-of-life assessment.

Job Duty 7 -
Operational Leadership: Provide operational leadership to ensure compliance with zero waste initiatives, optimizing campus waste management processes. Implement continuous improvement processes to enhance waste management operations and achieve zero waste goals.

Job Duty 8 -
Performance Metrics: Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to waste reduction, recycling rates, cost savings, and operational efficiency to measure success and identify areas for improvement. Utilize data analytics to drive decision-making processes, identify inefficiencies, and develop strategies for operational improvements.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Waste Management, or related program.

Required Experience
Five years of job related experience in logistics or waste management operations, with a focus on zero waste initiatives.

As Environmental Officer you will be the ship specialist on environmental matters, supervising the implementation of the Company's Environmental policy and procedures, verifying compliance with applicable national and international laws and training department Managers and Crew responsible for compliance with environmental requirements.
Level: 3 stripes Senior Officer
**Responsibilities :**
+ Ship specialist on environmental matters - supervises ship and Island implementation of DCL Environmental policy and procedures and verifies that the vessel is operated in compliance with applicable national and international laws, including all required logs and records.
+ Train ship and island dept. managers and Crew who are responsible for compliance with environmental requirements and monitor / coordinate their actions.
+ Supervise implementation of company environmental policy and procedures (waste management; pollution prevention/response; hazardous materials - purchase, storage, use) and sees that the vessel is operated in compliance with MARPOL (Int. Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships) and other applicable international and national laws.
+ Provides professional and social guidance to subordinates by exemplary personal behaviour.
+ Maintain required environmental Logs & records and verify proper record keeping by Depts. I.E. Oil Record Book, Deck Log.
+ Maintain Garbage Record Book required by MARPOL Annex V
+ Coordinate Environmental Committee Meetings and report
+ Collection, processing, storage, and proper garbage disposal and other waste
+ Continuously improve methods to minimize waste, foster recycling,
+ Manage waste processing spaces and waste storage areas (clean & organized)
+ Coordinate the equipment maintenance and calibration with Engineering as per AMOS.
+ Supervise ordering, loading, labelling, storage, use, & proper offload / disposal
+ Potable water sampling and testing
+ Implement Pest Management program by contractor and ship personnel
+ Oversee the swimming pools and whirlpools operation including maintaining chemical levels, chlorination/cleaning log and other actions to meet all USPH requirements.
+ Prepare team schedule, compile & distribute report
+ Sees that personnel files for the positions under them in the chain of command are maintained
+ Emergency Duties as specified in the ship Assembly / Emergency Function Plan
