**What does the position do?**
+ Responsible for the daily enforcement of all established safety programs, regulations, and safe work practices during project implementation.

As the Associate Director, Sanitation you will lead the practice of maintaining the highest level of food safety and quality for our products by creating and implementing Sanitation Programs at all HelloFresh sites. JOB DESCRIPTION:
+ The Chemical Hygiene Officer works in the Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHSO) with a primary emphasis on preventing occupational injuries and illnesses from chemicals used in research and operational activities.
+ Serves as the institutional subject matter and technical expert on Chemical Safety.
+ Develops and implements a comprehensive chemical safety program for Emory University and oversees the implementation across campus.
+ Develops and implements guidelines, best practices, and standard operating procedures for the use of chemicals in research and operational activities.
+ Communicates and coordinates work with the Research Health and Safety Committee, chairs of the Chemicals in Animals Committee, and the High Hazard Chemical Committee.
+ Develops strategies and systems to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations, laboratory safety, and employee health.
+ Stays abreast of established procedures, integration and interpretation of relevant laws, regulations, organizational policy, professional best practices, engineering controls, and related scientific methodology.

+ Collaborates with other Research Administration units in the management of DEA Controlled Substance and State of Georgia Drug and Narcotics Agency compounds used in research. partners.
+ Inspects and conducts audits of laboratories and other areas where chemicals are in use.
+ Collaborates with Principal Investigators, laboratory staff, and operational staff to review and audit operations, ensuring safe use, storage, and disposal of chemicals.
+ Evaluates engineering controls to ensure proper function.
+ Evaluates renovation and construction documents to ensure safe laboratory design and relevant codes are being met.
+ Conducts risk assessments for chemical use and new chemical evaluation.
+ Communicates concerns, provides recommendations, and oversees corrective actions, working with key stakeholders to achieve compliance.
+ Provides guidance to laboratories on the shipment of hazardous chemicals.
+ Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Bachelor's degree in a related field including Chemistry, Toxicology, Biology, or other science related field of study and eight years of experience in a research safety program, preferably in an academic setting.
+ Must be eligible to sit for the CHO exam and receive certification within a year of employment.
+ A master's degree and certifications from the National Registry of Certified Chemists (NRCC) as a Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is preferred.
