School Counselor / 504 Consultant – Key Responsibilities

504 Plan Support & Mentorship

  • Provide hands-on training and support to staff on how to develop, implement, and manage 504 Plans effectively.

  • Offer guidance and mentorship to new team members responsible for compliance and documentation.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Section 504 regulations and procedures.

Student Counseling & Support

  • Deliver individual and group counseling services to students with academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs.

  • Address issues impacting students’ school performance and well-being.

General Consultation

  • Work as a consultant on an as-needed basis to support school teams with student interventions, behavioral strategies, and overall social-emotional programming.

  • Collaborate with teachers and administrators to assess student needs and recommend appropriate strategies.

Collaboration & Case Management

  • Partner with school teams, families, and community agencies to support student success.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and provide input during student support meetings.

Crisis Response

  • Assist in responding to crisis situations that may impact the school community.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Strong understanding of 504 Plans and legal compliance

  • Ability to train and mentor others in 504 documentation and implementation

  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.

  • Criminal Background Check and TB Clearance

Preferred:

  • Previous experience working in a K–12 school setting

  • Experience conducting staff training or coaching

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus

Qualifications:

  • You have completed a Master's Degree.
  • You hold a valid New York State Education Department Certification in one of the following: Social Work, School Counseling, or School Psychology.

  • You have prior experience working in a school setting (School Counseling or School Social Work experience required).
  • You have background in counseling and crisis.

  • Collaborating with other teams (Enrollment/Assessment, ESE, MTSS, ELL, Student Services) to ensure individual student needs are met and as well as attending associated meetings (IEP/504 meetings, SST, and TAT meetings).

  • Provide completed input forms/documentation as requested to support student success.

  • Implement Tier 1 mental health supports and SEL curriculum support when needed. Be an active participant in Threat Assessment Team Meetings, Re-entry meetings and additional support as warranted. Activate handle with care and monitor student progress accordingly. Assist with student crisis and follow-up as needed.

  • Providing individual student and parent support based on need (technical assistance, academic, counseling, SEL, etc).

  • Work to ensure assigned help tickets are resolved in a timely manner.

  • Create and monitor tickets submitted to address student needs and supports workflow accordingly.

  • Be an active participant in the school community attending school, grade level, and team meetings and functions. Attend other school wide events as required (ex: pre-planning, graduation, student services events, and other FLVS professional development days)

  • Stay up to date on the latest legislative changes that impact the role of School Counselor.

  • Participate in ongoing professional development for continued growth.

  • Meet professional obligations through efficient and effective work habits.

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling.

  • Valid professional Florida certificate in Guidance and Counseling.

Experience:

  • Three years' high school, middle school or elementary school guidance experience.

Knowledge, abilities and skills:

  • Knowledge and understanding of all state and federal education guidelines.

  • Knowledge of university admission requirements and procedures.

  • Knowledge of all state rules, laws, policies, and procedures applicable to elementary, middle and high school students.
