**Purpose:**
This position is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, staff and all UPMC owned and adjacent properties. Establish a security presence by operating and maintaining weapons detection equipment. This position is responsible for detecting and identifying weapons that may cause harm or be used to commit violence. Also, may establish a security presence by maintaining an assigned post or by patrolling UPMC hospitals, buildings, grounds, garages, and associated areas to deter criminal activity, document activities, and contact UPMC Police Officers or other appropriate law enforcement when necessary. Monitors security, fire, and environmental alarms. Responds to and resolves problems, disputes, and unusual circumstances as necessary. Provides customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff to maintain a safe and secure environment. Document incidents on appropriate reports as required. Follow all established policies, procedures and protocols for weapons detection.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Operate weapons detection equipment at designated entrances to screen persons, bags, and other belongings.
+ Monitor the weapons detection system to identify objects and determine whether said objects are harmful or prohibited.
+ Communicate with individuals being screened through the weapons detection system, providing instructions and ensuring compliance.
+ Identify threats and/or objects that alarm through the weapons detection system and taking appropriate action as per established procedures.
+ Take possession of and secure any item that has been identified as a weapon or prohibited object. Document as required.
+ Work with fellow Public Safety team members and UPMC staff to address any security issues or threats identified during the screening process.
+ Provide assistance to visitors, staff members and other individuals passing through weapons detection areas in a professional manner.
+ Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of weapons detection equipment to ensure that it is functioning properly.
+ Report any malfunctions to public safety leadership.
+ Ensure accurate records are kept of persons screened and weapons/prohibited objects identified.
+ Document any unusual occurrences encountered during weapons screening.
+ Prepare and submit daily activity reports and Security reports as required.
+ Establishing a presence at an assigned post or by patrolling UPMC hospitals, buildings, grounds, garages, and associated areas to deter criminal activity, may carry a watch tour clock or similar device to record the patrol of a designated area.
+ Has awareness of unauthorized persons, unusual physical factors, and mechanical malfunctions; reports or resolves problems, as appropriate.
+ Report and document activities and contact UPMC Police Officers or other appropriate law enforcement regarding incidents, suspicious activities, and hazards when necessary.
+ Responds to and resolves problems, disputes, and unusual circumstances as necessary.
+ Provide customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff to maintain a safe and secure environment.
+ Monitor security, fire, and environmental alarms. Respond to alarms and assist when needed.
+ Directs traffic on hospital property; enforces traffic and parking regulations; and assists patients, visitors, and employees with vehicle problems per policy and training.
+ Escorts, assists, and/or directs patients and visitors to areas within the hospital or facility and furnishes information as requested.
+ May aid handicapped and elderly people upon arrival and departure from the hospital or facility and ensure an adequate supply of wheelchairs are at the hospital entrance.
+ Works cooperatively with local police departments and authorities.
+ Responds to requests for assistance in the assigned locations; assists in locating patients.
+ Locks all doors, in designated areas, after regular business hours; unlocks doors at the start of business hours.
+ Maintain required certifications and licensing.

ABOUT CITYWALK BHAM:
The recent completion of Birmingham’s I-59/20 Central Business District (CBD) Interstate bridges brings about a renewed focus on the space underneath the bridges known as City Walk BHAM. The goal of City Walk BHAM is to provide a space to assist in reconnecting Birmingham and create a destination and common area open to all citizens.
City Walk BHAM spans 10 city blocks, from 15th St N to 25th St N – almost a mile in length. The entire area encompasses 31 acres, which will provide a space to assist in connecting Birmingham.
Summary/Objective
The Public Safety Ambassador at CityWalk BHM (CWB), will play a vital role in maintaining safety and security within CityWalk at the BJCC by patrolling the area in a visible manner, protecting and preserving the environment within CWB by enforcing rules, educating visitors, conducting patrols, providing visitor services like tours and information, and responding to emergencies, all while ensuring the safety and enjoyment of CWB guests; essentially acting as a steward of CWB and a frontline representative to the public.
Public Safety Ambassadors will patrol CWB on foot or via bicycle, golf cart, motor vehicle, or Trikke as assigned by post orders acting as a visible uniformed presence to deter unwanted activity, while providing information, assistance and direction to visitors. Work is conducted completely outdoors.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Enforces CWB rules, regulations and responds to violations related to safety and security.
- Conducts patrols throughout CWB to ensure visitor safety, monitors for potential hazards, maintain the site, and remove litter.
- Circulate throughout City Walk BHAM by following post orders and instructions, ensuring safety and security for all and visitors and personnel.
- Identify, report, and respond to safety and security violations, suspicious activity, or criminal behavior.
- Responds to accidents, medical emergencies, search and emergency operations.
- Assist with crowd control during events and act as a deterrent to crime through visible patrol.
- Maintain positive working relationships with internal, external partners, and guests at CWB
- Contact supervisor or manager if issues arise beyond your scope or ability to resolve.
- Work closely with local law enforcement to address security concerns and criminal activity.
- Operate a bicycle, golf cart, motor vehicle or Trikke, and associated equipment in all weather conditions to make rounds and be visible.

Under the direction of the Security Leadership, this position is responsible for adhering to established policies and procedures to protect the hospital from theft and damage; provides protection for patients, visitors, Associates, and medical staff; investigates and quells disturbances; restrains patients upon proper direction and assistance of medical/clinical staff.
Responsibilities:
Investigates/quells hospital incidents and disturbances to maintain patient, visitor, and employee security.
- Completes descriptive reports for supervisory personnel.
- Notifies appropriate city officials (police and fire) and prepares descriptive reports for supervisory personnel.
- Performs regular perimeter and internal patrols of the hospital buildings and grounds to assure protection of patients and property and to prevent the entry of unauthorized persons into the hospital. These patrols are both on foot and mobile.
