JOB OVERVIEW / WHAT A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT LOOK LIKE:
City Harvest is seeking a highly motivated Truck Driver with a Class B CDL license or higher to assist in picking up and delivering food across the five boroughs to and from our Food Rescue Facility in Long Island City. A Driver is City Harvest's front-line ambassador in the community. S/he is responsible for visiting donors to accept food and deliver food to designated agencies across the five boroughs in a safe, courteous, and timely manner while maintaining a neat appearance both for self and assigned equipment.
- Be courteous and polite when picking up and delivering food. Be willing to accommodate customers' needs.
- Delivers product in a safe and timely manner complying with safe food-handling practices and ServSafe requirements.
- Operate a City Harvest truck safely and in compliance with motor vehicle laws. Drive with confidence in skills and knowledge of (or willingness to learn) different routes.
- Complete all assignments on the route, accept overtime assignments and special assignments when required; comply with attendance policy.
- Accept route re-assignments and changes in daily schedule; accept and comply with operational changes to attain greater efficiencies; consistently comply with Food Transport's food rescue procedures.
- Communicate information about the route to the Manager - Food Transport and Food Transport management (especially events that could impact pick-up or delivery of food or completion of route schedule), comply with instructions, and ensure that all communications with dispatch are constructive and professional.
- Collects signatures on invoices, complete trip reports, logbooks, and other required paperwork. Ensure that all paperwork is neat, legible, accurate, and timely.

- Delivering petroleum products from location to location via heavy commercial vehicle
- Loading petroleum products onto the vehicle (may involve climbing ladders, walking on top of a vehicle, and moving oil chutes)

Job Summary:
The Truck Driver position involves the operation of specialized equipment to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of products to customers or the transfer of materials between terminals and manufacturing sites for production. The Driver is responsible for the secure handling and transportation of various commodities, including Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic Soda Solution), Sodium Hypochlorite Solution (Bleach), Chlorine (in bulk and ton containers), wastewater, Salt, and other freight, with strict adherence to safety and load securement protocols.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None
- Perform pre- and post-trip inspections on tractor and trailer, including completing Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and logging them properly in the electronic logging device (ELD).
- Ensure compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and customer requirements, including placarding, cargo securement, and proper documentation.
- Safely load, transport, and unload bulk chemicals such as Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Hypochlorite, Chlorine, and Salt, adhering to Company and industry safety protocols.
- Verify accuracy of bills of lading, including special instructions and product specifications.
- Report unsafe or abnormal conditions at customer sites and ensure professionalism in all customer interactions.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times per Company policy.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A) with Tanker and Hazardous Materials endorsements.
- Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) and valid medical card.
- Minimum of 2 years of tractor-trailer driving experience, preferably with tanker and hazardous materials.
- Clean driving record commensurate with hazardous materials transportation standards.
- Ability to pass a 10-panel controlled substance test and random testing thereafter.
- Background check meeting TSA TWIC criteria.
- Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELD) and DOT regulations.
- Must hold required commercial driver's license appropriate for weight of the vehicle to be operated.
- 2-5 + years of tractor-trailer driving experience, preferably with tanker/hazmat background.
- Must be capable of standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods of time.
- Must be capable of lifting 40 lbs. from the floor to waist height.
- Must be able to carry 40 lbs. for short distances.
- Must be able to work in inclement weather for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to perform proper and safe climbing and descending of ladders, steps, etc.
