**Position Summary**
The Crisis Intervention Specialist will work alongside first responders to provide on-site crisis intervention, de-escalation, and stabilization services for adults and children experiencing or who are at risk for experiencing a behavioral health crisis. **Responsibilities**
The Crisis Intervention Specialist will perform duties including, but not limited to:
+ Perform all work in a manner consistent with the National Youth Advocate Program's mission, values, and philosophies.
+ Provide live crisis support for those at imminent risk of suicide, those in need of immediate resources; or those in need of emotional support.
+ Provide crisis intervention, emotional support, or transportation services for parents, youth, and adults.
+ Establish rapport with crisis hotline callers in a non-judgmental and calm voice.
+ Assess risk through assessments including the "Ask Suicide-Screening Questionnaire."
+ Contact first responders if the caller is at imminent risk of suicide.
+ Schedule appointments for intake and outpatient follow-up care.
+ Provide transportation when needed.
+ Administer groups and training for support staff.
+ Completes all follow-up care and home visits within the required time limits.
+ Reassess safety and provide referrals for behavioral health and other needed services.
+ Performs other duties as requested.
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree in social work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field from a CSWE accredited college or university.
+ Previous experience in crisis response, substance abuse, juvenile justice, advocacy, mental health, or equivalent.
+ An awareness or acceptance of the NASW Code of Ethics and is an effective and efficient communicator.
+ Is committed to serving the underserved with dignity, compassion, and respect.

Counseling Services provides psychological services and crisis management for students as well as outreach, consultation and training to the community at large. Job SummaryCaltech Counseling Services engages with graduate and undergraduate students who are scientifically-minded, culturally diverse, and engaged in a rigorous academic environment. Our tight-knit campus allows for flexibility and strong relationships within Student Affairs to provide intentional, quality support to meet the unique needs of each student. Counseling Services provides psychological services and crisis management for students as well as outreach, consultation and training to the community at large. Counseling Services is part of the Student Wellness Services organization, and works closely with medical professionals to consult and collaborate on complex cases involving the intersection of physical and mental health.
The Assistant Director and Crisis Intervention Coordinator will function as an integral part of the Counseling Services clinical team by providing individual and group counseling, coordinating crisis response including the on-call schedule, and supporting the day-to-day operations under the supervision of the Director of Counseling.
The incumbent will also participate in campus-wide initiatives to support suicide prevention, increase resilience among the student population, and work collaboratively with colleagues to support the mission of the Institute. Additionally, the incumbent will demonstrate an appreciation and understanding of the culture and priorities of a science and technology-focused research institution, as well as show a clear commitment to the values of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
This is an Organizational Critical position. In the event of an emergency on campus, an employee designated as organizational critical is expected to report to Campus as soon as possible to assist in division/department response and recovery efforts.
Essential Job Duties- Assists the Director in planning, administration, management, and evaluation of the Counseling Services team, services, and operations.
- Assists with supervision of clinical team members.
- Serves as consultant to faculty, staff, students, and parents.
- Manages post hospitalization and medical leave processes in coordination with the Deans' offices.
- In collaboration with the Director, writes and reviews policies and procedures for the center.
- Coordinates professional development opportunities for clinical staff.
- Facilitates weekly peer supervision/case review teams.
- Oversees peer-chart review process and student feedback mechanisms
- Serves as point person for communication with ProtoCall after-hours service; organizes the after-hours on call rotation, and serve as back-up consultant to the Director for clinicians-on-call
- Provides individual and group counseling for culturally diverse graduate and undergraduate students for a wide range of psychological concerns
- Works collaboratively with other mental health and medical professionals within Student Wellness Services and local community providers
- Consults as needed with the CARE team and campus partners, including coaching to faculty, staff, and students on issues related to students of concern
- Develops and delivers training, consultation and outreach to faculty, staff, and students on a variety of issues related to suicide prevention, crisis management, mental health and emotional wellbeing.
- Collaborates on shared initiatives within Student Affairs through effective working relationships with Residential Experience Programs, Caltech Center for Inclusion and Diversity, Athletics, ISP, and other campus constituents who support graduate and undergraduate student experiences.
- Serves as liaison to student affairs office and/or undergraduate housing community (e.g. undergraduate or graduate residential community, the Equity Office, Center for Inclusion & Diversity, International Student Programs, etc.) and coordinates liaison relationships between other staff members and campus partners.
- Assists in crisis response to individuals and/or groups during campus-wide crises and natural disasters.

Hiring Range
$97,000 - $125,900 Per Year
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
