Encorr Sheets , an affiliate of Schwarz Partners and corrugated manufacturing industry leader, is currently seeking a Hostler / Shipping Loader at our state-of-the-art facility in Ontario, CA. As the Hostler / Shipping Loader , you will be responsible for the overall Yard Management, as well the the responsabilities outlined for our Shipping Loader. This position will assist with the movement of trailers/containers, and spotting of trailers/containers to facilitate the needs of the trailer movement throughout the facility under the Shipping Manager's direction. This position is also responsible for timely movements and thorough knowledge of yard rules and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR Hostler:
  • Provide efficient flow of trailers and spaces by driving and maneuvering yard truck & trailers from dock to dock switching out empty trailers with full trailers and/or within the designated areas as required by operations to keep production moving.
  • Provides support to Shipping department with loading and unloading process of trailers and arrange trailers to maximize the yard space.
  • Responsible to maintain a neat and orderly trailer yard lot oriented toward maximizing efficiency in servicing the customer needs.
  • Operate Yard Truck in a safe manner during numerous trailer / door change procedures daily involving loaded and empty trailer/containers.
  • Drive and operate vehicle under 15 mph in and around the plant and trailer yard / staging area.
  • Communicate professionally with all levels of personnel (customers, managers, staff, etc.) always.
  • Assist with yard checks.
  • Be proactive in communication with the plant and our personnel regarding issues and needs.
  • Check trailers before pulling away from the dock doors.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment.
  • Perform Pre and Post shift inspections as required by management.
  • Must be able to work as a team and ability to get along and have a good working relationship with other employees.
  • Comprehend instructions given by supervisors.
  • Follow all safety and company policies and procedures including maintaining good housekeeping, reporting any issues, accidents or incidents immediately; must complete online safety training each month as assigned.
  • Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Attendance must be exemplary at all times. Must be able to work any shifts, flexible hours and/or extended hours, and weekends.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION:
  • Operate a forklift safely & effectively.
  • Able to keep up, taking product off the out-feed line, staging it neatly on the floor and picking it up and loading it neatly and securely in a trailer.
  • Scan all units to trailer.
  • Able to follow proper procedures for staging units, loading units, handling overruns
  • Read and understand the order instructions and load tags. Must understand unitizing and palletizing information & corrugator flutes so product can be loaded properly per customer specific instructions.
  • Able to do basic math, to know trailer size and to read a tape measure to utilize trailers to max MSF per truck.
  • Understand shipment planning, documentation, & the importance of only having one Partial order on a truck.
  • Ability to organize the dock to eliminate units from small orders being mixed with large orders not being loaded. To insure all scrap is picked up and weighed, particle units are banded, and the knowledge of loading scrap bales in proper trucks.
  • Raisings and lowering of dock plates, safe guarding with chain for dock doors, and to report any damage.
  • Be proficient in using chocks, glad hand locks, and lock out when straight trucks are being used.
  • To follow all safety rules and to be able to do fork lift inspections. All and any defects found must be reported immediately.
  • Must be able to work as a team and ability to get along and have a good working relationship with other employees.
  • Comprehend instructions given by supervisors.
  • Take responsibility for communicating with other shift employees how job is running, problems, adjustments, etc.
  • Follow all safety and company policies and procedures including maintaining good housekeeping, reporting any issues, accidents or incidents immediately; must complete online safety training each month as assigned.
  • Handle forklift responsibly and take ownership in maintaining and upkeep forklift in good shape.
  • Attendance must be exemplary at all times. Must be able to work flexible hours and/or extended hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
  • Must be 18.
  • Minimum 2 years or more Yard Hostling experience in the past 3 years.
PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
  • GED or High School Diploma.
  • Corrugated experience.
  • Class A CDL License.
  • Clean DMV printout.
REQUIRED SKILLS (TECHNICAL, CLERICAL, LANGUAGE, ETC.):
  • Yard Hostling Experience.
  • Experience operating a forklift
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Basic math skills and must be able to read a tape measure.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Must be willing/able to enter/exit a Hostler Truck multiple times throughout a shift. Must be able to lift over 50 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Outdoor work - year-round.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to hot and/or humid conditions.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to high precarious places, airborne particles, and vibrations; the noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
