In This Role You Will

  • Lead strategic sourcing efforts for the Atlas program, driving supplier selection, negotiation, and long-term partnership development to support program goals.
  • Act as the connective tissue between suppliers and customers, ensuring alignment on requirements, timelines, and quality standards throughout the supply chain.
  • Own end-to-end supply chain execution, from procurement strategy through delivery, with a focus on cost, quality, and schedule optimization.
  • Develop and maintain robust supplier relationships, leveraging data and performance metrics to drive accountability and continuous improvement.

For this role, the target salary range is $10,000 - 135,000 (actual range may vary based on experience).

This is the lowest to highest salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee's pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

What you will be doing

We are seeking a Sourcing Manager to lead strategic sourcing initiatives and supplier negotiations on our Own Brands Team. This position would require close partnership and collaboration with stakeholders, suppliers, and multiple cross functional teams. The ideal candidate has sourcing or supply chain experience (Fresh experience is a plus!) and has strong relationship building and negotiating abilities.

The position will be based in Pleasanton, CA, Boise, Idaho, or one of our main regional offices in Seattle, WA, Portland, OR, Denver CO, Dallas TX, Chicago, IL, or Fullerton, CA, Phoenix, AZ.

Main responsibilities

  • Lead the sourcing efforts of categories that are up to an annual spend of $300M+ that are of hard complexity, utilizing the various standard sourcing processes adopted by the Strategic Sourcing Department
  • Lead and conduct negotiations with suppliers to secure the best possible pricing, terms, and conditions while ensuring compliance with industry standards
  • Monitor market trends, price fluctuations, and industry news to identify potential risks and opportunities in various commodity markets
  • Closely partner with stakeholders to implement sourcing strategies to ensure supply while balancing cost and quality
  • Lead Own Brands new item/innovation sourcing for multiple categories
  • Develop and negotiate contract terms including executing and implementing contracts. Interface with Safeway's Legal Counsel as needed to obtain approval on legal terms
  • Gather bid data, analyze complex bid submissions and make advanced financial scenario modeling to showcase award recommendations to sourcing management and business units
  • Facilitate cross functional meetings to ensure sourcing projects stay on timeline and communicate to upper management on challenges, risks, and obstacles
  • Summarize financials and present recommendations to business unit and senior management
  • Manage cost increase process and negotiations for the assigned categories including analysis, negotiations, and communication to stakeholders
  • Identify and execute cost savings initiatives that support the department's overall savings goal, deliver improved quality, cost, service, and innovation
  • Lead supplier transitions when required by monitoring liabilities, enabling supplier set-up and ensuring documentation is accurate and complete
  • Adhere to the Sourcing departments SOX policies and procedures
The salary range is $5,400.00 - 123,900.00 annually. Starting salary will vary based on criteria such as location, experience, and qualifications. There may be flexibility for exceptional candidates. Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay (accrued based on hours worked), PTO/Vacation Pay (accrued based on hours worked) or Flexible Time Off, paid holidays (8-9 days annually), bereavement pay, and retirement benefits (such as 401(k) eligibility). We believe the successful candidate has these qualifications and experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business/Logistics preferred
  • 6-8 years of negotiating contracts, managing strategic supplier alliances and buying experience.

Inside the Role
  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify potential suppliers, evaluate their capabilities, and assess market trends, ensuring the selection of optimal suppliers.

You will develop category strategies and use market intelligence to develop alternative sources. You are someone who is comfortable working while taking full ownership of your domain.

In addition to the procurement, and vendor management responsibilities, you will contribute to the of the procurement function. This includes creating and refining processes and templates that can be applied across all vendors and categories worldwide.

You will work onsite at our San Jose office, and report to our Indirect Procurement Manager.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Develop important team member relationships to create strategic sourcing models for professional services that improve the value of necessary goods and services
  • Implement cost-effective procurement practices, optimizing supplier performance and competitive pricing
  • Prepare RFQs, RFPs, bid documents and evaluate proposals, and administer the evaluation process
  • Craft negotiation strategies and accomplish favorable terms and conditions
  • Create contract documents in collaboration with the legal department
  • Contribute input toward the creation and implementation of programs to assess and promote supplier performance, development and management (e.g., establishing quarterly and annual goals, conducting quarterly business reviews, formal scorecard measures)

The Strategic Sourcing Manager for Leica Biosystems is responsible for leading a team to handle the company's end to end sourcing operations to meet Global Sourcing savings targets while supporting the overall strategy of the Global Strategic Sourcing organization.
