Responsibilities
- Perform single and mass fusion splicing on various cable types such as loose tube, ribbon, and microfiber.
- Build all splice enclosures according to their specs.
- Proficient with Working in various settings such as aerial, underground, and outdoor environments.
- Read, interpret, and update splice schematics and diagrams accurately.
- Conduct thorough testing of spliced fiber using OTDRs, power meters, and other specialized equipment to measure signal strength and identify faults.
- Ensure all splicing projects comply with industry standards, company policies, and safety regulations.
- Provide technical support and guidance on fiber optic cabling and connectivity issues.
- Maintain detailed records of splicing activities, test results, and material usage.
- Participate in emergency repair and restoration operations as needed.
- Ability to work both independently and in teams to troubleshoot networks, diagnose problems, and communicate effectively with management and customers.
- Maintenance of detailed splicing records, photos, and notes for documentation.
- Clear communication of construction and splicing scenarios to team members, outside parties, and collaboration with field engineering to update records.
- Timely completion of tasks to ensure an efficient work environment.
- Provisioning Fiber Paths: This includes identifying fiber routes, testing and verifying connections, and coordinating with other teams to complete the provisioning process efficiently.
- Proficient in managing and installing equipment within server cabinets, including proper setup, and routing of patch cables for network integration.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification or training in fiber optics is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in fiber optic splicing, including familiarity with different types of fiber optic cables and connectors.
- Proficient in using fiber optic splicing and testing equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working as part of a team.
- Ability to work in various outdoor environments and conditions, and to perform physically demanding tasks.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including weekends and emergencies.

Position Summary:
The Fiber Optic Splicing Inspector plays a vital role in ensuring quality and timely deliveries of our fiber services along with additional services to customers, while delivering exceptional internal and external customer service. This position will guide contracted splicing teams towards achieving Sonic's splicing standards.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
The Fiber Optic Splicing Inspector is a full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt/hourly position. Typical schedule is Monday through Friday 6am-3pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel:
Travel is typical for this position.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Fiber Optic Splicing Inspector has no supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform all work as necessary to conform to quality control guidelines (includes compliance with requirements outlined in applicable regulations such as: OSHA, FCC, NESC and NEC, etc.)
- Inspect splicing work and ensure it meets Sonic standards.
- Ability to fusion splice SM or MM fiber optic cable: to include terminate various types of fiber optic connectors
- Work with engineers and OSP management to perform fusion splicing as directed
- Installation and testing of pressurized and non-pressurized closures on all types and sizes of cable
- Installation and dressing of fiber optic cable both aerial and underground.
- Ability to complete fiber cable repairs.
- Provide management with detailed reports of field splicing activity
- Communicate with Project Manager and Splicing Manager on project status to meet organizational goals
- Ensure as-built fiber documentation is correct.
- Work with management to assign work to field crews
- Perform site inspections and coordinate post-construction audits
- All other duties as assigned by the Splicing Manager
Job Requirements:
- Proficient with fiber equipment, hand tools, fusion splicer, OTDR, fiber identifiers and scope
- Adhere to Local, Federal regulations and Company policies
- Adhere to Sonic's fiber splicing and testing standards, light levels and Fiber Enclosure build and re-entry procedure for dark and active plant.
- Ability to carry, climb and operate extension ladder, (approx. 28 ft high and 75 pounds)
- Ability to climb poles using ladders and climbing belt as needed
- Ability to drive company vehicles (bucket truck) in a safe and responsible manner and operate hydraulic aerial lifts
- Ability to perform job from high places (i.e. poles and roofs)

Work Environment:
