The Opportunity
The Department of Surgery at Temple Health is seeking a dynamic, fellowship-trained breast surgeon to lead the Temple University Hospital (TUH) Breast Center. This is a unique opportunity to direct and grow a comprehensive breast surgery program across multiple sites, including TUH Main, Jeanes Campus, Women and Families, and Chestnut Hill Hospital. The successful candidate will serve as the Surgical Director, providing strategic leadership and day-to-day oversight of all clinical, academic, and operational aspects of the Breast Center.
Key responsibilities include developing and expanding clinical services, maintaining certification by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), and promoting a culture of institutional stewardship and excellence. The Director will mentor faculty, surgical trainees, and medical students, foster clinical research, and actively participate in educational initiatives. A strong commitment to quality patient care, academic achievement, and continuous improvement is essential.
The Director will collaborate closely with departmental and hospital leadership to design and implement strategic plans, optimize clinical operations, and improve financial and operational performance. This role also involves evaluating existing systems to enhance efficiency and better meet patient needs, while driving initiatives that elevate clinical quality, patient satisfaction, and academic productivity.

Job Responsibilities
- Manage clinical research coordinators and associated research staff within programs at HUP and PPMC. This includes determining workload and assignments for staff; participating in hiring and evaluation of staff at both sites; continually assessing staff performance at all phases of orientation, assess clinical staff compliance with protocol on ongoing basis to minimize issues of non-compliance at both sites. Provide resources and mentorship for current staff and new hires.
- Coordinate conduct of Phase I-IV clinical trials for patients seen within the programs at HUP and PPMC. This includes oversite of study interventions, coordination of imaging and laboratory findings, screening and consenting patients, confirming eligibility, respond to queries, obtain records to complete related case report forms, oversee completion of CRFs and the shipment of blood and explanted devices required per protocol.
- Protocol Development: Principal support in the development of Physician-Modified Investigational Device Exemptions (PS-IDE) and other clinical protocols for the Division's overall research mission. Prepare draft PS-IDE applications for faculty review and submission to FDA. Draft components of clinical protocols and informed consents documents in collaboration with faculty.
- Regulatory-Financial-Training/Continuing Education: Negotiate clinical trial agreements and budgets; conduct study initiation; maintaining study regulatory binders; submission of all regulatory paperwork to our institutional review board (IRB) and any applicable central IRBs; monitoring; and closeout visits with sponsors and/or CROs. Create orientation programs for new hires and continuing education programs for current staff. Additionally, this includes in-service to any applicable clinical staff prior to initiation of a clinical study and any necessary refresher training throughout the duration of the study.
- Develop, maintain, and analyze databases for JCAHO survey scheduled and unscheduled visits. This includes prepping reports to provide mandatory endpoints and outcomes required for Joint Commission recertification
Qualifications Bachelor's degree and 7-10 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master's degree and 5-7 years of experience preferred.

General Surgery Trauma Specialist
In addition to starting a new General Surgery Residency Program in 2022, we are in the process of transitioning from a Level III to a Level II Trauma Center and are looking for an Orthopedic surgeon with a Fellowship in Trauma to assist with the growth of those programs.
