**What You'll Be Doing:**
The Medical Director for MSK Surgery is a key member of the Medical leadership team, providing timely medical review of service requests. Oversees the Surgery Field Medical Directors and interacts with leadership and management staff as well as health plan members and staff whenever a physician`s input is needed or required. Responsible for clinical audits for quality and education regarding the results and monitoring for improvement. Responsible for coordinating education and findings with matrixed Physician Business Manager.
+ Provides medical direction to the support services review process. Responsible for the quality of utilization review determinations, including appeals.
+ Provides input into audit processes including development of questions.
+ Reviews statistical sample of cases for Field Medical Director audits and makes recommendations into the types of cases to review.
+ Responsible to assist with all types of audits including Interrater, Customer, Clinical quality, and/or confirmation of process changes.
+ Holds Field Medical Director forums for education and question/issue resolution on a scheduled basis.
+ In conjunction with other leaders, measures Field Medical Director productivity, quality, and telephone statistics

+ On a requested basis, reviews appeal cases and/or attends hearings for discussion of utilization management decisions.

+ May function as Medical Director for select health plans or regions, assuming overall accountability for utilization management while working in conjunction with the SVP, CCO and/or CMO.

**Qualifications:**
+ Graduate of recognized medical degree program
+ Minimum of five (5+) years' experience in the practice of Orthopedic Spine Surgery is preferred.

+ One or more current, unrestricted state licenses
+ Obtaining and maintaining medical licenses in required states per business need

**About the department:** **Our Outpatient Day Surgery department proudly cares for patients with a variety of needs, including ear/nose/throat, plastics, orthopedic surgeries, and minor laparoscopic procedures. We interact with patients, their families, surgeons, and anesthesia personnel throughout the entire perioperative experience.**
**About this position:** **As an RN at Saint Alphonsus Health System, you will provide hands-on patient care while collaborating with colleagues, maintaining accurate documentation, and utilizing resources wisely. You will serve as a patient advocate by promoting their physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being. You will also be expected to educate patients, administer prescribed medications and treatments, and develop care plans based on patient needs.**
**General Requirements**
+ A current RN license is required.
+ Multistate licenses must establish residency with the Idaho Board of Nursing within 60 days from hire.
+ At hire, Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required. (ACLS and/or PALS may be accepted in lieu of BLS).

**What You'll Be Doing:**
As a Field Medical Director, MSK Surgery you will be a key member of the utilization management team. Collaboration Opportunities:
+ Routinely interacts with leadership and management staff, other Physicians, and staff whenever a physician`s input is needed or required.
What You Will Be Doing:
+ Serve as the Physician match reviewer in Hip/Knee/Shoulder Surgery cases, that do not initially meet the applicable medical necessity guidelines, as well as other imaging requests when providers, clients, or state laws require specialty reviews to be completed by the subject matter expert.
+ Discusses determinations (peer to peer phone calls) with requesting physicians or ordering providers, when available, within the regulatory timeframe of the request and provides clinical rationale for standard and expedited appeals.
+ Utilizes medical/clinical review guidelines and parameters to assure consistency in the MD review process to reflect appropriate utilization and compliance with SBU`s policies/procedures, as well as Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC) and National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) guidelines.
+ Aids and acts as a resource to Initial Clinical Reviewers.
+ Ensures documentation of all communications with medical office staff and/or MD provider is recorded in a timely and accurate manner.
+ May assist the Senior Medical Director in research activities/questions related to the Utilization Management process, interpretation, guidelines and/or system support.
+ Participates in on-going training per inter-rater reliability process.
Qualifications:
+ MD/DO/MBBS
+ Minimum of five (5) years' experience in the practice of Medicine, post residency and Active Clinical practice within the last 2 years is highly preferred
+ Current, unrestricted clinical license in medicine or required specialty
+ Obtaining and maintaining medical licenses in the state you reside, as well as, any license required per business needs
+ Active Board Certification in Orthopedic Surgery
+ Strong clinical, management, communication, and organizational skills
+ Energetic and curious with a passion for quality and value in health care
+ Computer Proficiency
+ Not under current exclusion or sanction by any state or federal health care program, including Medicare or Medicaid, and is not identified as an "excluded person" by the Office of Inspector General of the Department of Health and Human Services or the General Service Administration (GSA), or reprimanded or sanctioned by Medicare.
+ No history of a major disciplinary or legal action by a state medical board
