Your Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Sustainability Consultant with specialized expertise in integrated design and sustainable building development. The successful candidate will contribute technically to our team's existing portfolio of existing Green Building and LEED projects. The Senior Sustainability Consultant is directly responsible for the overall successful execution and delivery of projects to Clients in accordance with our contracts. The Senior Sustainability Consultant represents and is the primary administrator and communications link between all project stakeholders. They rely on past experience and expertise to manage larger and more complex projects, perform the project management job responsibilities with minimal supervision, and create a plan to meet the client's expectations and goals and provide a positive experience. The Senior Sustainability Consultant will also act as a mentor and resource to other Sustainability Consultants. Aside from the preferred locations listed, this position is open to any location with a Stantec office presence, for the right candidate.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the LEED certification process on projects (including other potential programs such as WELL, Fitwel, etc.).

  • Drive the work on assigned projects; set the priorities, procedures, scope and schedule; coordinate project team member assignments with the Studio Lead and Practice Lead for Environmental & Sustainability Services.

  • Delegates and oversees project tasks to be performed by other Sustainability team members.

  • Manage assigned projects through all stages of the project lifecycle including Project Initiation, Project Planning, Project Execution, Project Monitoring & Control, and Project Closure

  • Develop Sustainability scopes of services, fee estimates and proposals.

  • Actively participates in cross selling services and new project pursuits

  • Manage the client's expectations to a positive outcome; participate in client meetings as required

  • Follow and implement all established company processes and procedures

  • Maintain contractual, business and financial related records for the project; keep the client, Studio Lead, Practice Lead for Environmental & Sustainability Services, Business Center Operations Leader, and the Accounting Department informed on the financial status of the project

  • Monitor project activities on an ongoing basis to ensure timely and efficient completion of project work and ensure compliance of project contract requirements.

  • Identify QA/QC requirements for the project and schedule appropriate technical reviews

  • Notify the client of changes in project scope, prepare estimates for additional design fees, issue work authorization to client and obtain client approval prior to performing any additional services

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Detailed knowledge of the LEED rating systems and other sustainability rating system programs

  • Considerable project experience in new construction of data centers, specifically hyperscale and colocation type developments.

  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of Sustainability practices within own discipline and basic knowledge of practices and principles of other disciplines.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Sustainability best practices and processes.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand while at project sites.

**Your Key Responsibilities**
* Coordinate the LEED certification process on projects (including other potential programs such as WELL, Fitwel, etc.).
* Drive the work on assigned projects; set the priorities, procedures, scope and schedule; coordinate project team member assignments with the Studio Lead and Practice Lead for Environmental & Sustainability Services.
* Delegates and oversees project tasks to be performed by other Sustainability team members.
* Manage assigned projects through all stages of the project lifecycle including Project Initiation, Project Planning, Project Execution, Project Monitoring & Control, and Project Closure
* Develop Sustainability scopes of services, fee estimates and proposals.
* Actively participates in cross selling services and new project pursuits
* Manage the client's expectations to a positive outcome; participate in client meetings as required
* Follow and implement all established company processes and procedures
* Maintain contractual, business and financial related records for the project; keep the client, Studio Lead, Practice Lead for Environmental & Sustainability Services, Business Center Operations Leader, and the Accounting Department informed on the financial status of the project
* Monitor project activities on an ongoing basis to ensure timely and efficient completion of project work and ensure compliance of project contract requirements.
* Identify QA/QC requirements for the project and schedule appropriate technical reviews
* Notify the client of changes in project scope, prepare estimates for additional design fees, issue work authorization to client and obtain client approval prior to performing any additional services
* Proactively identify and pursue opportunities to offer expanded services to the client in order to add revenue; notify appropriate personnel of the opportunity; responsible for repeat business due to respect and confidence in the PM from the client
* Make a personal investment in professional growth and development by seeking ways to expand responsibility, knowledge, and abilities
**Your Capabilities and Credentials**
* Detailed knowledge of the LEED rating systems and other sustainability rating system programs
* Considerable project experience in new construction of data centers, specifically hyperscale and colocation type developments.
* Possess comprehensive knowledge of Sustainability practices within own discipline and basic knowledge of practices and principles of other disciplines.
* Comprehensive knowledge of Sustainability best practices and processes.
* Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment.
* Outstanding verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver persuasive and compelling presentations.
* Strong technical report writing and proposal development skills
* Ability to think broadly across several focus areas and bring together an optimized solution
* Analytical thinking to draw sensible conclusions from own work and communicate these clearly to others
* Working knowledge of sustainable design and alternative energy strategies for buildings and communities
**Education and Experience**
* Accredited architecture or engineering degree required
* 7+ years of Project Management experience in a related field
* LEED AP BD+C accreditation required
* WELL AP and other sustainability credentials preferred

**Knowledge / Experience**
+ Minimum of 5 years of experience of delivering Sustainability construction consultancy support for clients is essential, including the areas of energy, carbon, water, waste, circular economy, and biodiversity.

**Additional Information**

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Core responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading Supporting clients in the development and implementation of sustainability improvement strategies, including energy efficiency upgrades and building optimization
  • Managing large-scale sustainability reporting and engagement programs
  • Monitoring and interpreting energy and carbon performance data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and cost-saving opportunities
  • Advising clients on energy procurement strategies, including tariff reviews, supply contract support, and risk-managed purchasing approaches
  • Supporting the development and implementation of environmental and sustainability management frameworks (such as ISO 14001 and ISO 50001)
  • Providing oversight of site-level energy and environmental audits across a portfolio of commercial buildings
  • Engaging directly with clients to provide strategic advice, project updates, and technical recommendations
  • Contributing to the delivery of compliance programs including local and national legislation (e.g., benchmarking laws, ENERGY STAR, LEED, etc.)
  • Supporting delivery of reporting outputs including GRESB, PRI and annual fund reports.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • Experience of managing large consulting projects to time, and budget
  • Familiarity with US regulatory frameworks and market mechanisms related to energy and carbon (e.g., ENERGY STAR, benchmarking ordinances, LEED, local building codes)
  • Familiarity with sustainability reporting, including GRESB, PRI and annual fund reports
  • Experience with energy procurement and supply chain optimization
  • Experience of strategy development, including materiality assessments, policy setting, and integration of sustainability tools to real estate investment process
  • Experience of working within the real estate industry, or financial services
