Your future duties and responsibilities:

Install, configure, and maintain operating system, software, and hardware

Monitor system performance to improve availability and reliability

Perform system upgrades and patch management to enhance system security

Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues

Perform backup and recovery operations at regular intervals

Utilize ITIL-based processes to obtain capture tasks and obtain approvals

Develop and maintain documentation of system configuration

Provide technical support and guidance to end-users

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (i.e.: Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a similar major with extensive computer-based or technical content)?

Minimum of 5 years of system administration experience in any size environment

Foundational understanding of UNIX and Windows systems

Core understanding of networking (e.g. routing, switching, protocols)

3-5 years of System Administration experience working supporting Cloud Infrastructure (IaaS) requirements

Experience working with ITIL Service Transition and Operation processes, such as Change Management, Incident Management

IAT II certification required (e.g. Security+, Cloud+)

Desired qualifications/non-essential skills required:

Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git, GitHub)?

Excellent interpersonal skills, good presentation, communication?

The candidate must be a team player, but be able to work independently, as required?

Ability to work within an Agile environment?

Experience working with Cloud DevOps environments, such as Azure DevOps

Experience with cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS)

Air Force (USAF) at Langley AFB (Ryan Center) in Hampton, VA.

Install, configure, maintain, and administer servers including, but not limited to, TBMCS, MAAP-TK, GCCS-J, JADOCS, VMware, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL, SCCM, ACAS, HBSS and Citrix.   • Install, maintain, and administer software based on commercial operating systems, including but not limited to Windows7/10, Solaris, Linux, UNIX, and Windows Server 2016/2019.
  • Load system application software and patches.
  • Install, configure, and maintain rack mounted and stand workstations/servers.
  • Manage local system backups.
  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly and annual system maintenance tasks.

  • Support Development Test and Evaluation (DT&E) and Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E) of systems and new technologies as directed by the Government.
  • Provide system administration subject matter expertise during the design, procurement, and fielding of hardware/software systems.
  • Provide mentorship and training to newly assigned systems administrators and other users as required. Create new training tasks as required.
  • Collaborate with AOC Training Managers as necessary to ensure mission qualification training (MQT) requirements and instruction are accurate and are representative of current local configurations, technologies, and support responsibilities.
  • Provide trouble ticket management, coordination, and resolution as a member of the AOC enterprise help desk.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Demonstrated proficiency using unclassified (NIPRNet) and classified (SIPRNet) network enterprise environments, office automation software to include Microsoft operating systems and Microsoft Office suite of applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), and hardware virtualization environments.
  • Demonstrated systems administration proficiency with Microsoft Windows operating system software for servers and workstations.
  • Demonstrated systems administration proficiency with Sun Microsystems Solaris operating systems software for servers and workstations.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a field applicable to this position with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a USAF AOC in lieu of a bachelor's degree, or joint partner equivalent, and demonstrated proficiency administering operational-level C2 and associated systems including, but not limited to, TBMCS, MAAP-TK, GCCS-J, JADOCS, VMware, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL, SCCM, ACAS, HBSS and Citrix. Experience within an USAF AOC is preferred over joint experience.
  • Highly desired Completion of the Air Operations Center Initial Qualification Systems Administrator course (AOCIQTSYS)
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT
  • This position requires US citizenship and current TOP SECRET Security Clearance with SCI eligibility. We can work candidates who do not have a TS but must have a SECRET at start of work and be eligible for TS.
  • Travel, at the Government's request, to support installations, conferences, testing, troubleshooting, or training. Travel may be OCONUS or CONUS.

The System Administrator will be responsible for installation, maintenance and management of HRT computer systems hardware/software, stand-alone and/or networked. Assist in the development and improvement of HRT information technology services.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Coordinates selection and purchase of data processing hardware and software for HRT.

  • Implement backup routine for all HRT networked computer systems.
  • Provide development and/or maintenance of specialized HRT software programs.
  • Implement virus protection strategy at HRT.
  • Implement and manage server-based applications used to update workstations and servers, control and monitor Internet traffic and other network management applications.

Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills essential to Job Functions:

In depth knowledge of Microsoft server operating systems, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and server hardware is essential. In depth knowledge of backup systems and application. Experience working with VMware 7.x/8.x. Experience with Microsoft Remote Desktop Services. Ability to install, configure and troubleshoot server operating systems, software, and related hardware is required. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to quickly identify problems and implement solutions with minimal downtime. Critical thinking - Using logic and analysis to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches.

Required Software Knowledge and Skills essential to job functions:

Proficiency in using computer systems and the listed software applications associated with performance of assigned work is essential. Basic problem-solving skills associated with software applications used is expected. Software usage relevant to job duties will be evaluated.

Software applications:

Familiarity with MS Office Suite required.

Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect oneself, fellow employees, and the public from injury or harm. Job Description

The System Administrator will be responsible for installation, maintenance and management of HRT computer systems hardware/software, stand-alone and/or networked. Assist in the development and improvement of HRT information technology services.

Essential Job Functions:

(Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor to limit duties that might reasonably be assigned.)

  • Field all calls for computer assistance by HRT employees.
  • Install, maintain, upgrade hardware and software of HRT computerized systems.
  • Report all calls for computer assistance in electronic tracking software.
  • Provide ad hoc user training as required to help customers effectively utilize HRT computerized systems.
  • Perform routine LAN administrative duties as required.
  • Compile, write, maintain written documentation of all HRT computer configurations, and ensure adherence to HRT minimum hardware/software requirements.
  • Maintain awareness of advances in information technology and recommend modifications to HRT systems as required.
  • Coordinates selection and purchase of data processing hardware and software for HRT.
  • Explore and possibly implement new technologies to automate tasks related to client workstations and/or servers.
  • Implement backup routine for all HRT networked computer systems.
  • Provide development and/or maintenance of specialized HRT software programs.
  • Implement virus protection strategy at HRT.
  • Implement and manage server-based applications used to update workstations and servers, control and monitor Internet traffic and other network management applications.
  • Monitor various system logs for problems or unusual behavior.
  • Update and maintain server operating systems.
  • Manage records created and received in compliance with the Hampton Roads Transit Records Management Policies and Procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required by the Sr. Director of Technology Services.
Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills essential to Job Functions:

In depth knowledge of Microsoft server operating systems, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and server hardware is essential. In depth knowledge of backup systems and application. Experience working with VMware 7.x/8.x. Experience with Microsoft Remote Desktop Services. Ability to install, configure and troubleshoot server operating systems, software, and related hardware is required. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to quickly identify problems and implement solutions with minimal downtime. Critical thinking - Using logic and analysis to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches.

Required Software Knowledge and Skills essential to job functions:

Proficiency in using computer systems and the listed software applications associated with performance of assigned work is essential. Basic problem-solving skills associated with software applications used is expected. Software usage relevant to job duties will be evaluated.

Software applications:

Familiarity with MS Office Suite required.

Safety Responsibility:

Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect oneself, fellow employees, and the public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures and policies. Take an active part in reporting unsafe conditions and any hazards within the workplace to their Supervisor, Manager and/or the Safety Department.

Training and/or Education:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Systems or a related field.

Required Experience:

Three years of experience supporting Windows in network environment. Experience with networking protocols, particularly TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and WINS. Knowledge of server hardware and troubleshooting skills are essential. Knowledge of data storage systems and virtualization is desirable.

Licenses or Certificates:
  • Possess a valid Driver's License. Acquire a Virginia Driver's License within 60 days after the date of hire (in instances when an out of state license is not the applicant's current state of residence).
  • MCSE 2003/2008 (or newer)
