Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Create and develop training curriculum and training materials based on proven adult learning techniques.

- Create and develop training scenarios and update comprehensive training environment data resources to ensure that systems training mimics the production environment systems tools used by employees on a daily basis.

- Work extensively with business partners and SMEs to perform needs analysis, develop learning objectives and design deliverables that meet learner and stakeholder needs and organizational quality standards.

- Develop qualitative and quantitative assessment tools to measure learner requirements, competencies, and organizational quality standards.

- Teach instructional programs in accordance with training or other course requirements and organize materials to be presented.

- Develop assessments to measure and assess effectiveness of the curriculum and learner performance in the workplace, integrate results into new and existing course curriculum.

- Review, evaluate, and modify existing and proposed curriculums and recommend changes to policies and procedures as applicable.

- Develop and create training resources and maintain/update systems training environment and library of training resources to align with operational excellence.

- Responsible for adhering to established safety standards.

- Develop solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope & complexity.

- Contribute to the completion of organizational projects & goals.

- Communicate on complex or sensitive issues or draft responses for supervisor or manager.

- Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study and 3+ years of relevant professional experience required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- A minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a hospital, nursing facility or Long Term Care facility

- A minimum of two (2) years of experience working in behavioral health (mental health and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities)

- Experience training in individual and group settings

- Proficiency in PowerPoint and Microsoft Suite

- Ability to write and communicate effectively

Preferred Requirements

- A minimum of two (2) years of training experience desired

- A nursing background highly desired

The purpose of this classification is to create, implement & evaluate training programs & curricula focusing on specific areas of knowledge to support departmental programs or systems and to assist employees improve upon or enhance existing skills.

Essential Functions:

Identifies and assesses business needs to determine and address immediate and future training needs and target audiences including current employees and new hires.

Confers with management, supervisors and employees to gain knowledge of work situations requiring training and to understand changes in policies, procedures, regulations, business initiatives and technologies.

Formulates teaching curricula/outlines and determines instructional methods such as individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, meetings and workshops.

Researches, designs, develops and refines curricula and training materials for courses.

Selects or develops teaching aids such as training handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials, and reference workshops.

Conducts training sessions for specified areas e.g., customer service, billing systems, hardware and software, interpersonal skills, quality & process issues, and product knowledge.

Minimum Qualification:

Bachelors degree in Public/Business Administration, Education or equivalent experience and certification; two years of training/teaching experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required:   Technical Training Certification or CPLP a plus. 

Supplemental Police Department Specific Information :

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, clinical counseling, occupational therapy, or related field. Teaching or group presentation experience preferred but not required. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must be able to obtain a Georgia POST General Instructor certification within 6 months of employment. 

Major Duties and responsibilities

  • Instruct and routinely update behavioral health curriculum specific to law enforcement in the form of a 40-hour training class and deliver that training in a competent and engaging manner. 
  • Instruct and routinely update an 8-hour refresher class detailing and reinforcing best practices regarding police response to behavioral health crises. 
  • Maintain a database of department employees who have obtained specific training related to behavioral health crises. 
  • Teach additional Georgia POST credit classes appropriate for civilian instruction. 
  • Perform other duties related to the function of the DeKalb Police Training Academy as directed by the Academy Director or designee. 

Skill/Knowledge Preferred

  • Must be able to function in a paramilitary environment with a defined command structure. 
  • Must have an aptitude for public speaking. 
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to speak professionally to staff. members, groups, and community residents.

Under general supervision, the ITS Trainer will work with end users and other personnel to coordinate testing and training for trainers on design and development of system initiatives, in support of our efforts to continually upgrade the skills and capabilities of end users and the Department of Revenue (DOR).

Must be able to train on software applications or large-scale systems while also identifying areas of risk or for improvement on business processes. The incumbent must be able to build relationships with business resources across all divisions within the Dept. Must be able to facilitate meetings and work as a liaison between the business users and IT personnel on system changes. The incumbent must also be able to produce training or instructional videos and other training documents on system changes and upgrades.

Specific duties include (but are not limited to):

Facilitate meetings

Administers training for end users and other trainers

Consults with vendors or technical staff to validate functionality and workflow for preparation of instructional or training documentation for communications to end users

Identify training needs based on new system functionalities and/or changes in workflow or business processes

Produce instructional or training videos and documents for use in support of training

Provides services such as scheduling of training, maintaining records, setting up/checking equipment

Develop change management plans for transition to new or upgraded systems

Documents business processes and create instructional documents for users of new or upgraded systems

Track and report on system changes

Entry Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED AND 3 years of experience providing educational, training or instructional services in functional area. (IT/IS, End User Support etc.)
