Job SummaryThis position plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly environment within the school, operating in strict adherence to the CPS Student Code of Conduct and implementing essential site security and safety protocols. The role utilizes various CPS technology systems, including camera monitoring and the Microsoft Office Suite, to support daily school business processes. It requires consistent adherence to written and oral instructions, strong collaboration with colleagues and school administration, and the ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. This position demands sound judgment, ethical practice, and a high degree of cultural awareness and competency when interacting with a diverse school community. This is a full-time, non-exempt position that will be paid for time worked on an hourly basis.
ResponsibilitiesThis job will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
- Operates an automobile to safely and reliably transport executives to and from meetings and other CPS-business-related events.
- Conducts site surveys as necessary to ensure the safety of executives at these locations.
- Ensures the confidentiality of information related to travel details of executives.
- Implements appropriate security measures to mitigate threats or danger to executives.
- When not actively transporting executives, conducts "remote camera missions" to support the safety of schools.
- Reports unusual activity or suspicions of safety issues to the Supervisor in a timely fashion.
- Completes proper documentation related to incident reports and misconduct reports.
- Actively participates in professional development training to ensure ongoing growth and to advance skills.
In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Transportation Security Specialist must possess the following qualifications:
- Education Required: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience Required: A minimum of two (2) years of highly successful related experience. Experience with CPS technology systems utilized for school business processes (i.e. cameras and MS Office software suite).
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the CPS Student Code of Conduct: A thorough understanding of the rules, expectations, and disciplinary procedures outlined in the Chicago Public Schools' Student Code of Conduct.
- Knowledge of basic methods of providing site security and safety: Familiarity with fundamental security principles, protocols, and practices to ensure a safe environment within school premises.

This Lead Transportation Security Officer position is located at McClellan-Palomar Airport (CRQ), Transportation Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security (DHS). As a Lead Transportation Security Officer (LTSO), you will be responsible for leading at least three full-performance level Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) and, as assigned, trainee and apprentice level TSOs. This Supervisory Transportation Security Officer position is located at Elko Regional Airport (EKO), Transportation Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security (DHS). As a Supervisory Transportation Security Officer (STSO), you will be responsible for mitigating actual and potential threats against civil aviation and other transportation modes. You will also perform and supervise in your area of specialty, which may include Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) and Lead Transportation Security Officers (LTSOs) in the performance of all security functions related to the screening of people, property, and cargo through the use and application of procedures, techniques, and technology. In addition, you will make independent, security-based decisions using intelligence, critical thinking, experience, observation, and passenger engagement. Typical duties include, but are not limited to:
* Conducting and supervising subordinate employees in conducting pre-board security screening of persons, their carry-on and checked baggage/cargo.
* Overseeing screening checkpoint(s) and/or baggage screening operations on a day-to-day basis to include equipment, personnel, and the scheduling and rotation of personnel.
* Participating in the development of new policies and procedures, and recommending changes in policy and procedures based on observation of work, as required.
* Participating in the development of strategic planning initiatives, workforce planning, succession planning initiatives, and other reports and documents for TSA and superiors.
* Engaging in continuous development of critical thinking skills necessary to mitigate security threats by identifying, evaluating, and applying appropriate situational options and approaches.
* Preparing various types of communications such as morning briefings, checkpoint logs, reports, and documents that are germane to the work performed.
* Developing incident information and reports for Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs) and superiors.
Supervisory/Managerial duties include serving as a first line supervisor for the organization. This includes, but is not limited to: assigning work, setting priorities, and reviewing and evaluating work and performance of subordinates; approving leave; coaching and developing employees; recommending corrective or disciplinary actions; resolving routine problems that typically impact the objectives of the organizational unit; when required, coordinating with customers outside the immediate organization; supervising employees performing special program work; and serving as the supervisor-in-charge of an assigned airport or other transportation terminal.

**RESPONSIBILITIES:**
+ Inspect and prepare transportation vehicles for daily operation requirements; perform pre- and post-trip inspection of vehicles; fill out required paperwork to report any damage or defects
+ Conduct pat-down searches; ensure that individuals are properly secured prior to leaving a facility, and while in a vehicle; ensure that all required paperwork is completed, accurately, and thoroughly when accepting individuals at a facility and delivering them to their appropriate destinations
+ Safe operation of vehicles; ensure that all safety and legal measures are always followed while transporting individuals, including but not limited to all applications federal, state, municipal and organizational laws, regulations, policies and procedures

**QUALIFICATIONS (MUST HAVE):**
+ High school diploma or equivalent
+ Current and valid driver's license
+ Possess, or be able to obtain a Class D / Security Officer License Issued by the State of Florida
+ Minimum of two (2) years of driving experience
+ Minimum of two (2) years of experience in one or more of the following:
+ Law enforcement

+ Corrections
