Penske Logistics is seeking a proven leader with relevant experience and skills to join our team of transportation and logistics professionals. We are seeking a candidate to supervise drivers at one of our locations.

The Operations Supervisor provides direction at a single location, leading staff to ensure customer requirements are achieved while meeting our Penske goals and objectives.

Position Summary:

Provide operational leadership to individual contributors and hourly workforce to ensure the execution of daily tasks and activities including driver deliveries, loading/unloading of trailers, and customer service operations in a manner consistent with company services and cost objectives. Supervises most processes directly including people, systems, customer needs, equipment, etc.workforce and equipment scheduling. Responsible for performance management of direct reports. making corrective action and disciplinary decisions up to written warning level. Involved in the hiring process and customer meetings as necessary.

Schedule : Wednesday - Saturday 8:00 PM - 8:00 AM (Hours may vary depending on business needs)

Salary : $68,640 -81,650 - Position is bonus eligible up to 12% of the base salary

Major Responsibilities:

People

  • Establish and sustain that all supervisors and associates are trained and competent and understand how their work relates to the customers' business objectives
  • Establish and sustain that performance standards are communicated that are specific and measurable
  • Interview hourly associates and provide recommendations for hire
  • Monitor attendance, productivity, and other performance standards and provide coaching and counseling to associates
  • Motivate and engage associates by focusing on team accomplishments and recognition

Operations

  • Supervise logistics operations including customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatch and proper documentation and procedure control
  • Conduct team meetings
  • Evaluate and recommend changes in preferred work methods to increase productivity of dispatch operations. Assist in new associate training
  • Provide relief coverage for operational duties when associates utilize time-off or are absent from the shift
  • Have a thorough working knowledge of the site's operating systems in order to ensure operational compliance and correct exception resolution
  • Complete all necessary records and reports in a timely and accurate fashion

Finance

  • Ensure compliance with financial policies & procedures such as tracking MPG, returns, damages, etc.
  • Understand the relationship between decision-making and profitability
  • Closely manage associates' working hours and activities to minimize overtime and to meet or exceed productivity targets

Safety

  • Ensure day-to-day management and associate activities are aligned with the location safety strategy
  • Provide associates with communication, training, feedback, and direction to ensure safe performance
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies and company policies and procedures
  • Conduct safety observations

Growth / Customer Experience

  • Understand the location-specific customer goals & objectives and work to meet and exceed these expectations daily
  • Ensure the customer knows that we are committed to helping them meet their objectives
  • Determine areas that could benefit from Continuous Improvement efforts

Fleet/Assets

  • Properly plan work assignments to ensure effective use of fleet equipment
  • Work with hourly associates to ensure they understand safe and efficient operation of equipment
  • Work with vendors to ensure equipment is maintained
  • Work with Penske Truck Leasing to ensure schedule of preventative maintenance is complete
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor

  • Good understanding of transportation/logistics practices and procedures

Job Overview

The transportation coordinator plans, organizes, and coordinates the daily transportation services of AltaMed PACE participants. Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • Minimum 1-year experience in coordinating a program.

  • Ensures that drivers comply with physicals, drug or alcohol tests, and training required by regulatory agencies.
  • Conducts Root Cause Investigations for all injuries and incidents, ensuring consistent discipline and retraining.
  • Establishes and maintains a clean, safe work environment in compliance with Company/Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Documents problem fixes and provides instructions to dispatch/service should problems recur.
  • Communicates and follows-up on sales opportunities, problems at customer sites, repairs container swaps, and safety issues reported by drivers.
  • Notifies customer service of delivery days for specific areas.
  • Ensures set-up errors and missed pickups are reported and resolved.
  • Documents and maintains records required by regulatory agencies such as the Department of Transportation.
  • Reviews and audits documentation related to route operations on a daily basis following up where appropriate.

Qualifications

Candidate Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in a Logistic, Transportation and service-related industry.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish but not required but a plus.
  • Ability to use multiple programs in the MS Office Suite, especially EXCEL
  • Solid waste experience, DOT regulations & a College Degree are all a plus
  • Good physical agility with the ability to lift up 50lbs repetitively.
  • Ability to utilize local highway maps. Able to follow detailed instructions.

The Spirit of the Position: The Transportation Manager , Orange County, will oversee the planning, performance, and profitability of LAZ’s regional transportation contracts. This role is key in delivering best-in-class transit solutions including fixed-route shuttles, micro transit, paratransit and campus mobility while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. You’ll serve as the strategic liaison between LAZ, our contract clients, city agencies, and operational partners. Responsibilities: Serve as the lead for all assigned transportation operations, reporting to the Contract Liaison and Regional Vice President. Manage day-to-day operations across contracts including staffing, compliance, maintenance, dispatch, and scheduling. Ensure strict compliance with DOT/FTA regulations, vehicle inspections, and LAZ internal safety policies. Oversee subcontractor performance related to shuttle maintenance, driver operations, and facility services. Champion technology adoption (GPS, CAD/AVL, scheduling tools) to enhance operational efficiency. Monitor and analyze ridership trends, route performance, and customer satisfaction to drive continuous improvement. Drive financial accountability through budgeting, forecasting, and P&L oversight for all assigned locations. Lead regular performance reviews with client stakeholders, ensuring service level expectations are exceeded. Serve as a key partner to LAZ HR in hiring, onboarding, and developing transportation personnel. Cultivate a strong culture of Safety, Service and Professionalism consistent with The LAZ Way. Support business development, RFP compliance, and contract renewals as needed. Requirements: MUST have Class A or B license. MUST have at least 2 yrs of CDL driving experience. MUST have Passenger Endorsement. MUST have valid DOT medical certificate. Experience: Must have a minimum of (5) years of experience managing fixed route system. Must have full knowledge and experience ensuring compliance with DOT and FTA regulations. Must have full understanding of dispatch, scheduling, and driver recruitment. Experience with planning and service design for optimization and improvement of service. Experience leading and developing high-performing teams in fast-paced environments. Experience negotiating and managing collective bargaining agreements a plus. Skills: Possess a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and complex situations including difficult customers and timely response and resolution of any customer complaints. Personal values that align with company mission and core values. Resourceful with a strong understanding of business acumen. Demonstrates a sense of urgency and timeliness. Ability to mitigate and lead others to overcome challenges (Never Ever Give Up Attitude). Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in business administration, marketing, communication or journalism.
