ESC has an exciting opportunity for a Usability Specialist to join our premier client's team in Seattle, WA . This is a full-time position , starting as an 8-month contract . This role is critical in shaping product experiences through user-centered research. From usability studies to large-scale surveys, your insights will directly impact design decisions and improve how customers interact with the company's digital products. We're looking for a highly analytical and collaborative Usability Specialist who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes full ownership of their work, and excels at synthesizing research into actionable recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct variety of user experience studies appropriate to the business objective, e.g., competitive reviews, focus groups, field studies, usability tests, surveys, cognitive walkthroughs, paired comparisons, structured interviews, contextual inquiry, task analysis, field studies, heuristic review, remote testing, and card sorting.
- Create tasks and materials needed for testing and define success criteria for each study.
- Able to own and execute all parts of the study from defining research needs and goals, recruiting participants, running the study sessions, analysis and write-up.
- Present study results and make actionable research-based recommendations to product and design team members.
- Observe user session, making notes for analysis and communicating the findings with the design and product team to ensure that findings are implemented correctly and drive the right decision-making
- Work with designers and product to analyze and refine wire frames and mockups prior to development to promote greater ease of use and positive consumer experience.
- You are enthusiastic about collaborating with a cross-functional team of UX designers, researchers (qualitative and quantitative), business partners, design technologists, data scientists, and developers to provide actionable insights.
- You can work with minimal guidance in a fast-paced environment, successfully navigate complexity (e.g., risks, constraints, compliance requirements, etc.), and demonstrate strong prioritization skills. You are comfortable with the programmatic set up and execution of large-scale survey programs.
- You're customer-obsessed and a skilled advocate for good research - educating the organization on opportunities, ensuring the right research questions are being asked, and creating/executing research against product roadmaps.
- 5+ years of experience in quantitative research methods (benchmarking, surveys, A-B tests/multivariate experiments, and behavioral analytics, etc.) and activities (study design, test creation and execution, analysis, statistical modeling, reporting, etc.)
- Fluency with survey creation and remote testing platforms (e.g. Qualtrics, UserTesting, Dscout)
- Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, or related field (Master's preferred)
- Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in a related field
- Experience at top-tier tech companies
- Strong background in benchmarking, A/B testing, and behavioral analytics
- Ability to triangulate multiple research sources to form compelling insights

As a Usability Specialist, you will be the voice of the seller, ensuring their needs are at the forefront of the design process. You will conduct a wide range of user experience studies, from usability tests to field studies, to gather valuable insights. You will then translate these findings into actionable recommendations for the product team, shaping the development of intuitive and effective interfaces.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and document best practices for user research, creating a usability toolkit for both formal and informal studies.
- Champion usability best practices across the organization.
- Conduct various user experience studies, including usability tests, focus groups, field studies, surveys, and heuristic reviews.
- Design tasks and materials for testing, defining clear success criteria.
- Present study results and provide actionable recommendations to the product team.
- Observe user sessions, analyze findings, and collaborate with designers to ensure usability improvements are implemented effectively.
- Collaborate with designers to refine wireframes and mockups, ensuring a positive user experience.
- Advanced degree in Cognitive or Experimental Psychology, Technical Communication, Human Computer Interaction, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of experience in user research and conducting formal usability studies.
- Proven track record of conducting usability studies and user research, including contextual inquiry, screening questions, plans, and reports.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex information to technical teams.
- Strong interest in user needs and workflows.
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage self-directed projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
The target hiring compensation range for this role is 45.70 to 50.78 an hour. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.

Summary:
In this role, you'll support a customer experience team by conducting, training, and assisting customer research to explore new ways for shoppers to understand and manage their orders, working directly with multi-disciplinary teams to connect evolving customer needs with emerging technologies. Your work will focus on working closely with researchers and designers to bring customer experience to the forefront by conducting usability studies, coaching usability best practices, and offering research support. By uncovering insights and influencing strategy, direction, and design, you'll help re-shape how people think about and interact with their orders - from the moment they complete a purchase until it arrives and what happens next - turning these all into moments customers can look forward to in shopping.
Key Responsibilities:
- As a key standard setter and supporter of customer research and identifying opportunities to up-level the quality of our customer experiences, you will:
- Use your knowledge of customer research methods and experimental design to conduct and support research initiatives that align to and inform business strategy and goals across the customer journey.
- Serve as a UserTesting.com platform expert, including training and supporting designers in utilizing the platform effectively
- Coach and mentor designers to enhance their research capabilities and contribute to raising the research bar on our team. This includes assisting in preparing and reviewing research materials including research plans, screening criteria, and study protocols
- Use your communication, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills to communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively to stakeholders, cross-functional audiences, and varying levels of the organization.
- Help designers and product teams to determine the right research questions to ask.
- Define and execute research methods appropriate to the questions at hand, including but not limited to usability studies, surveys, in-depth interviews, and field studies.
- Provide focused, insightful, and actionable findings by quickly and thoroughly analyzing a wide range of primary and secondary data types.
- Translate insights into measurable customer experience outcomes aligned to business goals.
- Work on overlapping projects so strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task are critical.
Required Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Social Psychology, Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, Behavioral Economics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7+ years experience conducting user research and usability studies, across a variety of development life cycle stages
- Expertise with UserTesting.com platform and other remote research tools
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
- Experience in collaborating with design teams and cross-functional stakeholders
- Proven ability to work on overlapping projects with strong organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in e-commerce or delivery service research
- Experience in coaching or training others in research methods
- Experience researching and developing experiences for global markets.
- Strategic, business-building approach to research with a passion for translating data into bottom-line impact.

Pay Transparency: The typical base pay for this role across the U.S. is: 43.00 - 47.00/hr. Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education and experience and the benefits package you select. Full-time employees are eligible to select from different benefits packages.
