Artists in this role will work closely with a hardworking team of directors, art directors, producers, and visual development artists to visually explore and design all aspects of feature animated film projects. These may include: sets, locations, props, characters, visual effects, color and overall style.
Sony Pictures Animation is a pre-production animation studio based in Los Angeles, California, creating both feature animation and animated series with artists from around the world. **RESPONSIBILITIES:**
+ Collaborate with Directors to translate the vision for the film from concept to finished presentation. This is done through the use of drawings and paintings (including rough sketches, cleaned up renderings, tonals, sculpture and digital imagery).
+ Create character and environment concepts, color scripts, color keys, lighting studies, mood paintings and production illustrations.
+ Assist Art Director and Production Designer to bring the script to life.
+ Implement feedback promptly and professionally.
**QUALIFICATIONS:**
+ Must exhibit proficiency in drawing (including human and animal anatomy), design, perspective, composition, painting, lighting and color theory as it pertains to feature film design.
+ Must be comfortable working in a variety of styles - from "cartoony" to highly realistic.
+ Areas of expertise to include one or more of the following: set/location/props design; character/costume design; special effects design; and/or color styling.
+ A solid understanding of 2D to 3D translations and hands-on use of 2D or 3D tools in your design process is helpful.
+ Able to solve problems creatively.
+ Manage time efficiently.
+ The ability to work creatively in a fast paced production environment under pressure.
+ Self motivated, good communication skills, and an excellent teammate with a phenomenal outlook.
+ Working knowledge of software and hardware including Photoshop andCintiq.
The anticipated base salary for this position is $51.61/hour to $81.75/hour. This role qualifies for benefits pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement. The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors

About the Role:
We are building the next-generation AI Image & Video Studio—a visionary space where cutting-edge tools meet artistic mastery. We are looking for a Senior AI Visual Artist who is not only fluent in the latest generative technologies but also deeply rooted in visual storytelling, artistic direction, and executional excellence.
In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with world class brands, clients, art directors, and brand strategists to bring creative visions to life—through high-end, stylistically curated AI-generated visuals and videos. You must bring a sharp eye, refined taste, technical fluency, and the ability to deliver flawless, emotionally resonant results.
Responsibilities:
- Interpret creative briefs and client requests to develop compelling AI-generated image and video content
- Use best-in-class tools such as Resleeve, Runway, Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, DALL·E, and Pika/Kaiber/Sora to develop campaign-ready content
- Build, train, and fine-tune avatars, characters, and creative environments aligned with specific brand aesthetics
- Lead or contribute to styling, art direction, moodboarding, and visual language development for projects
- Polish outputs through post-processing, retouching, color grading, and cinematic video editing
- Stay ahead of generative AI trends, tools, and creative techniques to push boundaries and elevate the studio’s output
- Maintain a high standard of visual taste, execution quality, and deadline delivery across multiple client projects
- 5+ years in visual arts, photography, art direction, or stylist roles (agency or freelance)
- Proven mastery of generative AI tools (e.g. Resleeve, Midjourney, RunwayML, Stable Diffusion, etc.)
- Experience in image and video refinement using tools like Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere, Topaz, etc
- A stunning portfolio showcasing creative direction, stylized AI avatars, fashion/editorial looks, cinematic visuals, and/or storytelling through visuals
- Ability to independently lead projects, take feedback, and iterate rapidly to perfection
- Strong sense of composition, lighting, visual identity, and cultural sensitivity
- Comfortable presenting work to clients and collaborating in a fast-paced creative environment
- Background in fashion styling, photography, or commercial art direction
- Experience in video editing and animation using AI/ML-enhanced pipelines
- Familiarity with avatar development, virtual influencer creation, or 3D environments
- Knowledge of brand strategy and campaign storytelling
- Fluency in more than one language is an asset

Ce rôle est spécifiquement axé sur le marché du Québec. Vous collaborerez avec des marques d’envergure, des clients, des directeurs artistiques et des stratèges de marque pour donner vie à des visions créatives — à travers des visuels et vidéos générés par IA, haut de gamme, stylisés et empreints de sensibilité locale. - Minimum 5 ans d’expérience en arts visuels, photographie, direction artistique ou stylisme (en agence ou à la pige)
- Maîtrise des outils de création IA (Resleeve, Midjourney, RunwayML, Stable Diffusion, etc.)
- Compétence en retouche et montage vidéo avec Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere, Topaz, etc
- Portfolio impressionnant démontrant direction artistique, avatars stylisés générés par IA, looks mode/éditoriaux, visuels cinématographiques et narration visuelle
