Position SummaryArdelyx is seeking a passionate individual who works with integrity and determination, to make a difference for patients. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Patient Advocacy & Government Affairs, the Director of Public Policy will provide leadership and shape Federal and State policy issues that impact patient access to medicines and our ability to conduct business. This person will skillfully advise the business on these issues while serving as a leader before trade associations like BIO.
Responsibilities- Analyze and communicate policy developments affecting Ardelyx and the broader biopharmaceutical sector, offering strategic counsel to internal stakeholders and senior leadership
- Lead research and provide insights on public sector trends related to patient access, reimbursement, and healthcare quality
- Act as a primary liaison with federal agencies (e.g., HHS, CMS) and external partners to support advocacy and engagement initiatives
- Partner with leadership to shape policy positions, leveraging deep expertise in Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payer frameworks, and specialty pharmacy. Drive internal initiatives, the policy prioritization process and future issue identification
- Identifying and pursuing additional opportunities to advance our company’s business objectives
- Establish and track annual goals and key performance indicators in alignment with the company’s strategic priorities
- Bachelor’s degree, an advanced degree is highly desired, with 10+ years of healthcare experience in public policy, with an emphasis on CMS and HHS policies or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated outstanding research, analytical and communications skills
- A high level of energy and passion toward patients, science and public health
- Working knowledge and appreciation of the complexities of the drug development process regulatory requirements and reimbursement
- Proven teamwork and collaboration skills, with a demonstrated ability to interact and influence all levels of business
- Ability to travel up to 15%
The anticipated annualized base pay range for this full-time position is $210,000-$256,000. Ardelyx utilizes industry data to ensure that our compensation is competitive and aligned with our industry peers. Actual base pay will be determined based on a variety of factors, including years of relevant experience, training, qualifications, and internal equity. The compensation package may also include an annual bonus target and equity awards, subject to eligibility and other requirements.
Ardelyx also offers a robust benefits package to employees, including a 401(k) plan with generous employer match, 12 weeks of paid parental leave, up to 12 weeks of living organ and bone marrow leave, equity incentive plans, health plans (medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision), life insurance and disability, flexible time off, annual Winter Holiday shutdown, and at least 11 paid holidays.

The Analyst -- Public Policy will collaborate across the External Affairs and Marketing function, our Platform Team (corporate function), and our Business Units.

The Problems You’ll SolveThe Analyst will help provide leverage to the entire Policy function as it supports Carta. This includes project management, coalition building, policy analysis and formation, event execution, and administrative support. This role will be as big as you make it, and will serve as a jumping off point for your career at Carta. We expect this opportunity to provide the foundation and business acumen for a successful transition into multiple disciplines within Carta. In this role, you will:
- Inform and support the execution of strategic public policy objectives, including shaping our strategy; tracking legislative and regulatory developments, our progress, timelines, and deliverables; preparing for meetings, conference calls, and webinars; and executing on next steps with internal and external partners
- Monitor key policy developments at state and federal level, communicating issues and our actions to stakeholders
- Structure execution plans on public policy initiatives, coalition building, and external events
- Strategically manage relationship engagements for CEO, Platform team, and Business Units
- Develop written briefing and report materials for internal and external audiences, including communications with the Hill, via newsletters, and other distribution channels
- Coordinate across coalitions and plan strategic events

The Waymo Policy and Government Affairs team has a front seat in this exciting moment in the evolution of autonomous driving technology, transportation and tech policy. Successful navigation of the policy landscape is critically important to deploying and scaling our business. Our team works directly with policymakers and third party groups at the national, state and local levels to help advance transportation policy, educate on the safety benefits of the technology, and advance consumer awareness and acceptance. Internally, our efforts support the innovative work of engineering, product, strategy, and partnerships teams, and we work closely with highly-skilled legal and safety experts.
In this hybrid role, you will report into our Director of U.S. State and Local Public Policy and Political Campaigns.
You will- Design and develop public policy advocacy campaigns aligned with Waymo's policy objectives for a portfolio of concurrent U.S. city, state, and federal campaigns.
- Orchestrate all phases of public policy campaigns from inception to conclusion, ensuring timely execution and achievement of objectives. Public Policy campaigns will be both proactive and defensive and focus on securing political objectives.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., legal, communications, marketing, public affairs, business units) to ensure integrated campaign efforts. This will include providing detailed briefings, reports and presentations on campaign progress and results.
- Track and manage campaign budgets to ensure efficient allocation of resources and actively monitor and ensure regulatory compliance, and manage the work of other campaign support staff, and media buying consultants to ensure timely and effective execution of political campaigns.
- Develop an intimate understanding of the political landscape of various cities, states, and countries as it relates to transportation and technology.
- Serve as a Waymo representative at conferences and political events in close conjunction with Policy, Public Affairs and Communications. This will include tracking political trends and developments important for the company.
- 5-7+ years of experience in political campaign management and execution or relevant corporate, nonprofit, public interest group, lobbying firm or industry association experience; ideally at least 2+ years working specifically on technology or transportation policy issues.
- Experience collaborating with public affairs firms, trade associations, think tanks and other third-party voices.
- Ability to manage and track significant political campaign budgets along with ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Skilled and experienced at persuasively and diplomatically messaging complex policy positions before a wide variety of audiences.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to travel throughout the country to support the Policy team and participate in relevant conferences, meetings, and other events.
- Experience executing high-stakes corporate political campaigns.
- Work experience in the private sector.
- Bachelor's degree, JD/MBA/MPP preferred.
- Knowledge of the policy environment for autonomous vehicles.
- Knowledge of future of work, labor, and workforce development policy issues.
The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Duties and Responsibilities- Provide legal counsel, recommendations, and services to AFBF legal and public policy staff on public policy matters. Responsibilities include analysis of legislation and regulations, development of recommendations and strategies, engaging with regulatory and legislative decisionmakers, and drafting rulemaking comments and other policy advocacy communications.
- Counsel for AFBF legal advocacy, including surfacing and analyzing cases for potential AFBF involvement and overseeing and ensuring the quality of work and litigation strategy of outside counsel.
- Organize and facilitate collaborative and educational programs among AFBF and state Farm Bureau staff, including AFBF’s Legal Information and Networking Committee.
- Provide training and informational presentations to Farm Bureau staff and members on legal advocacy and public policy topics of interest.
Maintain strong, positive relationships with Office of General Counsel, Public Policy, and Communications staff of AFBF, as well as state Farm Bureau staff. Cultivate and maintain relationships with other agricultural and non-agricultural trade groups and other allied organizations.
Education or Training Required- Law degree and bar admission.
- Five to ten years’ relevant experience with a law firm, federal agency, and/or trade association.
- Federal litigation experience.
- Experience interacting with environmental or agricultural government agencies, particularly the DOJ, EPA, and/or USDA.
- Excellent analytical ability and oral and written communications skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership ability.
- Experience in environmental or agricultural law, particularly the ESA, FIFRA, NEPA, FLPMA, CWA, and/or CERCLA.
- Experience with Constitutional law and the APA.
- Basic scientific understanding of (or interest in) issues underlying environmental law.
- Occasional travel.
