For more information about our offices and culture, check out our Carta careers page .

The Team You’ll Work With

Policy is infrastructure as well. It can drive innovation or bind its growth. It can incentivize entrepreneurship, expand investment, and facilitate the experimentation that leads to new innovations and opportunities. It can also impede the launch of an innovative startup, restrict a new product or service, or hinder the development of a company as it raises capital and transitions from private to public ownership. Policy affects nearly every aspect of the innovation ecosystem. Carta advocates for a policy framework that fuels its benefits.

The Analyst -- Public Policy will collaborate across the External Affairs and Marketing function, our Platform Team (corporate function), and our Business Units.

Read more here about Carta’s five key policy priorities that aim to make innovation and ownership core to our economy.

The Problems You’ll Solve

The Analyst will help provide leverage to the entire Policy function as it supports Carta. This includes project management, coalition building, policy analysis and formation, event execution, and administrative support. This role will be as big as you make it, and will serve as a jumping off point for your career at Carta. We expect this opportunity to provide the foundation and business acumen for a successful transition into multiple disciplines within Carta. In this role, you will:

  • Inform and support the execution of strategic public policy objectives, including shaping our strategy; tracking legislative and regulatory developments, our progress, timelines, and deliverables; preparing for meetings, conference calls, and webinars; and executing on next steps with internal and external partners
  • Monitor key policy developments at state and federal level, communicating issues and our actions to stakeholders
  • Structure execution plans on public policy initiatives, coalition building, and external events
  • Strategically manage relationship engagements for CEO, Platform team, and Business Units
  • Develop written briefing and report materials for internal and external audiences, including communications with the Hill, via newsletters, and other distribution channels
  • Coordinate across coalitions and plan strategic events
  • Help ensure compliance on lobbying, ethics, and political action committee rules and procedures
  • Provide administrative support
  • Identify ways to improve our process, communication, tracking frameworks, and results
About You

Successful candidates will have high EQ and IQ, with an ability to see the big picture while having an obsession with the details. Please apply if you identify with the following:

  • Experience facing the Hill, understanding of the legislative process, and an interest in capital markets, finance, and tax
  • A passion for process, strong project management skills, and the ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders
  • Thrives on bringing structure to fluid dynamics and executing on projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Flexibility to undertake a variety of tasks to help advance Carta’s mission
  • Excellent verbal and written communicator, with the ability to write for clarity and influence
  • Organizational skills, with excellent follow-through and a positive attitude in a dynamic work environment

Job Description

Overview

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

The Waymo Policy and Government Affairs team has a front seat in this exciting moment in the evolution of autonomous driving technology, transportation and tech policy. Successful navigation of the policy landscape is critically important to deploying and scaling our business. Our team works directly with policymakers and third party groups at the national, state and local levels to help advance transportation policy, educate on the safety benefits of the technology, and advance consumer awareness and acceptance. Internally, our efforts support the innovative work of engineering, product, strategy, and partnerships teams, and we work closely with highly-skilled legal and safety experts.

In this hybrid role, you will report into our Director of U.S. State and Local Public Policy and Political Campaigns.

You will
  • Design and develop public policy advocacy campaigns aligned with Waymo's policy objectives for a portfolio of concurrent U.S. city, state, and federal campaigns.
  • Orchestrate all phases of public policy campaigns from inception to conclusion, ensuring timely execution and achievement of objectives. Public Policy campaigns will be both proactive and defensive and focus on securing political objectives.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., legal, communications, marketing, public affairs, business units) to ensure integrated campaign efforts. This will include providing detailed briefings, reports and presentations on campaign progress and results.
  • Track and manage campaign budgets to ensure efficient allocation of resources and actively monitor and ensure regulatory compliance, and manage the work of other campaign support staff, and media buying consultants to ensure timely and effective execution of political campaigns.
  • Develop an intimate understanding of the political landscape of various cities, states, and countries as it relates to transportation and technology.
  • Serve as a Waymo representative at conferences and political events in close conjunction with Policy, Public Affairs and Communications. This will include tracking political trends and developments important for the company.
You have
  • 5-7+ years of experience in political campaign management and execution or relevant corporate, nonprofit, public interest group, lobbying firm or industry association experience; ideally at least 2+ years working specifically on technology or transportation policy issues.
  • Experience collaborating with public affairs firms, trade associations, think tanks and other third-party voices.
  • Ability to manage and track significant political campaign budgets along with ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Skilled and experienced at persuasively and diplomatically messaging complex policy positions before a wide variety of audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel throughout the country to support the Policy team and participate in relevant conferences, meetings, and other events.
We prefer
  • Experience executing high-stakes corporate political campaigns.
  • Work experience in the private sector.
  • Bachelor's degree, JD/MBA/MPP preferred.
  • Knowledge of the policy environment for autonomous vehicles.
  • Knowledge of future of work, labor, and workforce development policy issues.
