- Completes transfer and obtains appropriate consents when patient is transferred to another facility and gives complete report to care giver who will be accepting responsibility for care of patient.
- Completes education record and/or transfer record in EMR.
- Demonstrates effectiveness in coordinating care, identifying needs and making appropriate referrals.
- Demonstrate clinical competence in caring for patients and provides care according to hospital policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
- Administer medications and IV therapies accurately in a safe and effective manner, monitors effect identifies and reports any adverse effects.
- Educates patients on new medications, provides info on reason for med and adverse effects to watch for.
- Accurately accounts for narcotics as per procedures and documents all medications administered.
- Recognizes errors and adverse reactions and reports them in a timely manner.
- Functions according to the State Nurse Practice Act and delivers care that is consistent with the policies, procedures and standards of Conemaugh Nason Medical Center.
- Provides for patient safety and security needs by maintaining a clean and safe environment and placing call bell within patients reach at all times.
- Demonstrates understanding of hospital infection control procedures and utilizes appropriate handwashing and universal precautions at all times.
- Promptly answers patient call lights and fulfills patient request as soon as possible. Makes patient rounds hourly and as needed to assess patient needs.
- Maintains patient care equipment, reports malfunctions and requisitions service appropriately.
- Utilizes effective communication skills in interpersonal relationships with patients, family members and other members of the health care team to maintain an environment in which staff work together.
- Communicates pertinent patient care information at the change of shift via BSSR.
- Communicates significant changes in patient's condition to the team leader, physician and supervisor in a timely manner.
- Monitors patients hourly or every 2 hours.
- Regularly reports complaints of patients, visitors and physicians through personal action or referral to a higher authority.
- Completes and documents performance improvement activities, participates in problem identification and carries out actions to improve patient care.
- Demonstrates leadership abilities and assumes leadership role.
- Functions independently by demonstrating responsibility for the delivery of care to all assigned patients on the unit.
- Directs, supervises and evaluates care delivered by ancillary staff members. Serves as a professional role model for staff and a preceptor for new personnel.
- Manages conflict and frustration in a positive and constructive manner and accepts constructive criticism regarding own nursing judgments or actions.

How you'll contribute
A Registered Nurse (RN) - ED who excels in this role:
- Appropriately performs duties of triage nurse when assigned including identifying emergent patients and performing the quick triage process facilitating patient flow, and hourly waiting room checks.
- Provides primary nursing care to all patients assigned, functioning within a team, throughout the length of stay in the department.
- Accurately identifies arrhythmias and provides intervention according to established procedures. Anticipates arrhythmias and complications based on knowledge of pathophysiology takes appropriate actions as needed and communicates information to physicians in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates an ability to start IV's, administer medications and IV fluids, assess patient's response and titrate dosages as per physician order.
- Demonstrates an ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the ED, functions as code nurse at "CPA" situation within the hospital and provides needed cart exchange.
- Manages critically ill patients during transfer to other departments or health care facilities. Give appropriate report to provide continuity of care.
- Regularly tests monitoring equipment/alarm systems to ensure proper functioning when needed.
- Demonstrates a complete knowledge of the location, care and operation of all ED equipment.
- Demonstrates appropriate safety precautions (e.g. with invasive line, during defibrillation, etc.) and utilizes infection control practices to minimize incidence of nosocomial infections.
- Participates in special procedures and examinations performed by the physician, prepares the patient and provides emotional support, as required.
- Consistently assesses the nursing care provided in the critical care areas and identifies any problems or needs for improvement.
- Always assesses the patient's condition utilizing the nursing process and professional judgment in individualizing emergency nursing care.
- Always documents observations and interventions, including medication and treatment therapies.
- Always assesses the patients' immediate needs and priorities patient care accordingly upon arrival to the emergency room, obtains pertinent patient history.
- Notify family/S.O. of patient's progress and includes them in plan of care, whether admitted or discharged if applicable, i.e. minors or POA's.
- Participates in bedside change of shift report.
- Ensures that the standards of the emergency nursing practice are maintained.
- Maintain assessment, knowledge and intuition skills when triaging patients.
- Continuously assesses and improves the performance of care and service provided.
- Orients and mentors new members of the team in the department.

Job Type: Part Time | M-F, 7 AM - 3:30 PM + on-call is approximately every 8-9 weekdays and every 8-9 weekends, which includes Friday night 3p-Saturday 7a; 24 hours both Saturday and Sunday.

How you'll contribute
A part-time RN OR who excels in this role:
- Perform interventions necessary to ensure that the patient's procedure is performed on the correct site, side, and level.
- Perform interventions to maintain the patient's wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels.
- Perform interventions to maintain the status of the patient's genitourinary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, respiratory, cardiovascular and neurological systems and fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balances at or above baseline levels.
- Perform interventions to ensure the patient is at or returned to normothermia at the conclusion of the immediate postoperative period.
- Perform interventions to protect the patient from surgical site infection.
- Develop an individualized perioperative patient plan of care.
- Protect the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and chemical, electrical, laser, mechanical and thermal sources.
- Documents patient care given accurately and completely.
- Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
- Provide consistent and comparable care regardless of the setting.
- Perform accounting procedures to protect the patient from unintended retained surgical items.
- Transfer care as applicable - use handoffs for reporting aids
- Involve the patient or designated support person actively in decisions affecting his or her perioperative plan of care and the rehabilitation process.
- Manage the patient's specimens according to organizational policy and procedures.
- Maintain required competencies.
- Assess patients at intervals as stated in policies and procedures.
- Communicate the patient's current status to relevant parties throughout the continuum of care.
- Administer medications safely and correctly.
- Evaluate the patient's progress toward attaining outcomes.
- Assess the knowledge level of the patient or designated support person.
- Provide education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medication management, pain management, wound management, and expected responses to the operative or invasive procedure.
- Provide age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice.
- Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects.
- Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members.

What we're looking for
Applicants must have Graduate of a RN program and a current nurse's license in the state of Pennsylvania or a current multistate license (MSL) from compact member states/territories required. Additional requirements include:
- Associate's degree is required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Basic Trauma Nurse Course (BTNC) or equivalent training (ATCN, TCRN, TNCC) obtained within 1 year of hire is required.
- Must be able to work irregular hours including call hours.
