Role - Senior Research Development Chemist Location - Eagan, MN A Senior Research and Development Chemist is an experienced researcher/formulator who combines technical knowledge and innovation when formulating a variety of personal care products, cosmetics and OTC products (sunscreens and anti-acne) from concept to finished products based on customers' requests. Scale-up of approved formulations, to include identification of critical process variables. Troubleshoot production issues and address batch variations. Set product specifications and write compounding procedures. Supervise and coordinate pilot batches. Provide paperwork for new formulas and new raw materials to operations. Provide specifications and other information to QC to receive and test new ingredients and finished goods. Research product formulations and properties and interactions of raw materials. Vendor research for raw materials. Compose and check ingredient lists, QQs and artwork Interpret results of laboratory findings and assess risks involved in new products and communicate findings to sales and upper management. Remain up to date and current on trends in the retail market and trends on formulations materials, ingredients, etc. Training, mentoring and supervising lab staff (permanent and temporary). **Summary**
**CHS** has an exciting opportunity in the Product Development group. We are searching for an experienced **Research and Development (R&D) Chemist** to support agronomic research through hands-on work in both the formulation laboratory and the greenhouse. This role will be primarily lab-focused. The Chemist will be expected to effectively utilize facility assets to advance CHS agronomic research, assisting with both chemical analyses and greenhouse experiments.
**_This role is required to be on-site at our Randolph, MN location (greater Minneapolis/St. Paul area)._**
**Responsibilities**
+ Ensure compliance with all laboratory health, safety, and environmental regulations.
+ Demonstrate a foundational understanding of organic, inorganic, physical, and biochemical principles.
+ Operate and maintain advanced analytical instrumentation, including HPLC, ICP (e.g., ICP-MS/OES), and GC systems.
+ Perform sample preparation and analysis using HPLC/ICP, following standard methods; troubleshoot minor issues (column changes, detector calibration, etc.).
+ Assist in method optimization, including basic DOE and chromatographic method development under chemist supervision.
+ Assist with formulation preparation and evaluation of stability/compatibility under Chemist guidance.
+ Document findings and prepare clear, concise technical reports. Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, within cross-functional teams.
+ Operate and maintain common laboratory equipment with precision and care.
+ Apply standard greenhouse practices to support ongoing research and plant trials.
+ Understand and follow proper procedures for hazardous material handling and disposal in accordance with applicable regulations.
+ Support lab safety protocols and regulatory compliance, including thorough review of SDSs and seed treater manuals, and safely manage and handle hazardous materials with appropriate PPE and established procedures.
+ Sterilize equipment and ensure secure storage of materials and supplies.
+ Maintain and calibrate laboratory and greenhouse equipment; troubleshoot issues or report malfunctions as needed.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
**Minimum Qualifications (required)**
+ High School Diploma (or equivalent)
+ 2+ years of laboratory experience in quality management, formulation, analytical methods, and/or product development to include:
+ Strong documentation skills; ability to maintain precise and compliant lab logs
+ Proven ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and implement recommendations
+ Ability to read, interpret, and apply information from labels, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and seed treater manuals
+ Solid understanding of lab safety practices and regulatory compliance
**Additional Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry (or related scientific field) is strongly preferred
+ Strong agriculture background/knowledge
+ Understanding of marketing concepts
+ Ability to:
+ self-motivate and able to work independently with minimal supervision
+ perform under stressful situations and time constraints
+ present in front of groups in a professional and positive attitude
+ utilize office tools (phone, fax, computer) Microsoft Office products
+ put together meeting presentations and present to attending audience
+ Participation in one or more professional agricultural organizations is encouraged

**Physical Requirements**

The University of Minnesota Department of Neurology and M Health Fairview seek a Vascular Neurologist on a research career development track to join our dynamic, rapidly growing cerebrovascular team. This position will join a network of specialist academic physicians, fellows, residents, and APPs, providing the highest standard of care across our health system, which includes a comprehensive stroke center, thrombectomy-capable stroke center, primary stroke center, and six acute stroke-ready hospitals.
This position requires the highest level of vascular neurology expertise to care for complex cerebrovascular patients in person and via telestroke.
This three-year track supports those wishing to develop into clinician scientists. It is structured similarly to an NIH career development award with protected time for research:
- Year 1: 50% protected time for research and participation in the NIH StrokeNet Research Fellowship.
- Years 2 and 3: At least 25% protected time, flexible based on career goals and additional internal funding during Year 1.
When on clinical service, faculty will:
- Provide inpatient and outpatient care for stroke and complex cerebrovascular conditions.
- Support a robust telemedicine network for inpatient care and emergent stroke consultation across the health network.
- Collaborate with neurocritical intensivists, cerebrovascular neurosurgeons, and neuro-interventionalists.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and healthcare delivery.
- Integrate education into clinical practice, training fellows, residents, medical students, and APPs.
During research time, faculty will:
- Complete coursework at the University of Minnesota's School of Public Health, including methodology and grant-writing, with encouragement to pursue a Master's Degree in clinical research (tuition supported).
- Work on mentored research projects aiming for grant submissions.
- Lead clinical trials at local, national, and international levels.
- Additional research, teaching, and leadership opportunities may be available.

Qualifications:
MD and completion of an ACGME-accredited neurology residency and vascular neurology fellowship. Commitment to education and research. Interest in telemedicine is desirable. Prior telestroke experience is not required.
Must possess:
- Unrestricted Minnesota Medical License or eligibility.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in neurology; certification within 2 years if not yet certified.

Pay and Benefits:
Salary ranges from $218,757 to $344,326 based on experience and effort. Compensation is provided through M Physicians, with additional benefits including retirement contributions, well-being programs, CME allowances, malpractice insurance, and support for loan forgiveness.
