**Advanced Practice Provider: I Hospitalist (Nights)**

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Responsible for providing health care for patients in designated primary or specialty area, including patient diagnoses, treatment, education, and referrals. Serves as a resource and role model for clinical practice, training, evaluation, and direct management of practitioners and students in all areas encompassed by the service line to ensure optimal patient care quality. Minimum Specifications

Education

Physician Assistant:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program recognized by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors.

Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN):

5. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the practice field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, andactively participating in professional organizations. Participates in PHHS education activities.

6. Maintains and implements knowledge of all applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the respective APP fields. Develops adequate internal controls that promote adherence to relevant state/federal laws, as well as the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Maintains current professional certifications and licensure as required by the organization and the APP's governing body. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding, timely completion of all assigned modules, and yearly PHHS obligations defined by the corporate compliance department.

7. Identifies work processes and flows for the assigned department. Suggests appropriate changes to improve work effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency that support the overall goals of PHHS or the area. Consistently provides quality customer service to internal and external PHHS customers.

PRIMARY PURPOSE
A Registered Nurse (RN) with 2+ years of experience. The RN is a licensed professional who uses the Parkland nursing professional practice model to coordinate patient care delivery, that focuses on a particular patient population(s)/specific health conditions, by the health care team. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient, identifies nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems, develops and implements an individualized plan of care, and evaluates the patient's response. The RN utilizes knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment to assist patients to transition through the healthcare encounter without any preventable complications or delays. The RN delegates interventions to health care personnel based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, each patient's condition and the competencies of the employee.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduate of a Registered Nursing program, Bachelor's in Nursing Degree (BSN) preferred.

Experience: Must have 2+ yeras of nursing ICU experience. Prefer experience in an acute care setting.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

Responsibilities

  1. Serves as a patient advocate, by focusing on patient needs, patient rights, confidentiality, and religious and cultural preferences. Maintains positive working relationships with all Parkland internal and external customers, employees, etc. Serves as a resource for patients and other healthcare team members. Serves as a resource for specific clinical patient care issues. Provides patient care educational information and training to patient and family members. May participate in community outreach activities (such as health fairs, community collaborations or outreach clinics) as assigned.
  2. Performs appropriate patient assessments including continuous surveillance. Recognizes changes in a patients condition and provides appropriate interventions as necessary. Consults with other team members as required, notifies providers to report changes in patient condition and implements orders in a timely manner. Exercises independent judgment in providing safe nursing care to the critically ill/stable patient.
  3. Must be able to manage an adult ICU patient with neurological, pulmonary, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, genitourinary disorders/conditions. Must provide safe medical administration using the patients six (6) rights, provide maintenance and management of IV access, must be able to perform POC monitoring, demonstrate safe infection control practices and CRRT for the adult ICU patient. Supports pain management as appropriate for each individual patient, provides emergency resuscitation care of an adult and provides an individualized plan of care.
  4. Maintains and implements knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact or govern nursing practice, and ensures the hospital and Parkland are in compliance. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Maintains and updates knowledge of sanitation, infection control, safety, supplies, equipment, appropriate utilization of supplies and materials.
  5. Completes appropriate documentation. Maintains accurate and timely entries and notations in patient care records and hospital documents. Ensures that all records and documents meet the standards, goals, and objectives of the Adult ICU/Critical Care department and Parkland.

Primary Purpose

Provides care to assigned patient population in accordance with established protocols and multidisciplinary plan of care utilizing independent, dependent, and interdependent interventions to restore stability, prevent complications, and achieve and maintain optimal patient responses for all patients through patient centered/patient valued care.

MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS

Education:

- Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing.

- Prefer Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Experience:

- Must have two years of Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care experience; Or,

- Must have successfully completed Parkland's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NNICU) Registered Nurse Residency Program and have one year of Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care experience.

Certification/Registration/Licensure:

- Must have current RN license or valid temporary permit with the Texas Board of Nursing; or, valid Compact RN license.

- Must have current healthcare provider CPR course completion card from one of the following:

o American Heart Association

o American Red Cross Rescuer

o Military Training Network.

Skills or Special Abilities:

- Provides care to assigned patient population in accordance with the current State of Texas Nurse Practice Act, established protocols, multidisciplinary plan of care, and clinical area specific standards.

- Provides continuous assessment, consults with other team members as required and provides nursing care which demonstrates patient centered/patient valued care.

- Exercises independent judgment in providing nursing care.

- Must be able to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and possess good oral and written communication skills.

- Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, families, and hospital staff in accordance with established policies and procedures.

- May be required to communicate effectively, via the overhead paging system.

- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to provide direction to non-nursing staff and serve as a preceptor.

- Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.

  • Must have one of the following, upon hire or transition into the role. Current incumbents as of January 29, 2024 must obtain by February 15, 2024. AWHONN Intermediate Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certificate OR, AWHONN Advanced Electronic Fetal Monitoring certificate OR, National Corporation Certification (NCC) Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification.
  • Must retake every two years from completion date of previous certificate: AWHONN Intermediate Electronic Fetal Monitoring OR, AWHONN Advanced Electronic Fetal Monitoring OR, National Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification must be renewed every three years.

Skills or Special Abilities:

  • Provides care for assigned patient population in accordance with the current State of Texas Nurse Practice Act, established protocols, multidisciplinary plan of care, and clinical area specific standards.
