Opportunities are available at several hospitals and outpatient sites throughout the region, with placement determined based on candidate interest, specialty area, and organizational need
Job Description: Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), including nurse anesthetists, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, and physician assistants, are integral members of UPMC's care delivery team. They deliver expert care within collaborative, multidisciplinary teams across all UPMC facilities in Central Pennsylvania. UPMC supports the growth of APPs through innovative educational strategies, ongoing professional training, and leadership development. With a dedicated team of 3,600 APPs, UPMC is committed to advancing collaborative practice models and supporting research that drives innovative healthcare delivery systems.
Staff Level Responsibilities:
The Staff APP is a Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner responsible for setting standards for the level and quality of care. They manage and provide patient care activities using independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with all team members. The role includes leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision. Staff APPs establish and maintain collaborative relationships with physicians, other healthcare providers, patients, and families to achieve desired outcomes throughout the continuum of care. They demonstrate a commitment to the community and their healthcare profession.
Placement: Candidates are placed according to their years and months of experience for employment purposes.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-specific care
- Ability to assess and interpret patient data to identify care requirements
- Provide care as described in department policies and procedures
Special Skills and Abilities:
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders
- Work effectively in complex environments with changing priorities
- Operate specialized equipment and demonstrate critical thinking and clinical judgment
- Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients
- Successful attainment and maintenance of hospital privileges, if applicable
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Physician Assistant (PA):
- Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited physician assistant program
- BS or MS preferred
- Clinical experience preferred
- Current PA state license and NCCPA certification required
- Current CPR certification and Act 34 Clearance required
Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP):
- Completion of an approved nurse practitioner program
- BSN or MSN preferred
- Professional nursing or nurse practitioner experience preferred
- Current RN license and CRNP certification required
- National certification and eligibility for PA board of nursing certification
- Current CPR certification and Act 34 Clearance required
