DaVita is hiring a Dialysis Tech to give life in the greater Akron, Ohio area at our Akron Renal Dialysis.

  • After training is complete and you feel comfortable in the role, this PCT position may float to our other outpatient clinics in the greater Akron, Ohio area, as needed

  • Clinic Operational Hours: MWF 4:00am - 8:30pm, TTHS 4:00am - 3:00pm (Prefer no scheduling restrictions)

  • This location as 14 chairs and currently has 5 dialysis technicians

  • Compensation increases are possible as you complete different levels of training and take on more responsibility (based on performance)!

  • We are looking for someone reliable (attendance/punctuality is crucial), prefer some health care experience and/or starting their career in health care, a passion for helping chronically ill patients, comfortable with very early start time and long shifts on your feet, manages challenging and stressful work environments with confidence, ready and willing to work with a team and learn a very rewarding skillset to assist our patients with prolonging their lives and living them to the fullest.

Dialysis Tech Day to Day

  • 25%: Receives patient into treatment/exam area; weighs patient, takes temperature and blood pressure pre- and post-dialysis; documents on all dialysis flow sheets. Performs and records vital signs and all other parameters of ESKD patients as per DaVita policy and/or state regulations; obtains blood samples and culture specimens and prepares for shipment.

  • 25%: Under guidance of nurse and/or preceptor sets up and monitors dialysis machines and reverse osmosis ("RO") water system for correct functioning, responds to visual and audible alarms and makes appropriate adjustments before, during and after the dialysis treatment, performs safety checks as directed by the registered nurse. Dismantles, cleans and disinfects dialysis machines and equipment in accordance to DaVita procedures; performs appropriate end of therapy terminal cleaning and disinfection of the dialysis equipment with guidance of nurse and/or preceptor.

  • 20%: Collects patient data and reports to nurse and/or preceptor as needed related to:

    • Monitoring and documenting status of vascular accesses

    • Documenting patient observations and seeks guidance when levels are out of normal range for ESKD patients

    • Reporting patient parameters to registered nurse as needed

    • Under guidance of nurse and/or preceptor initiates dialysis via approved accesses using proper cannulation or central venous catheter techniques in accordance with state, federal and local regulations

  • 20%: Reviews dialysis prescription, notes general physical and mental condition of patient through observation and interview, obtains information and/or data to determine compliance to dietary or medication regimen; documents observations and reviews with nurse and/or preceptor.

  • 5%: Performs clerical duties as needed and reviews with nurse and/or preceptor which may include: filing, lab requisitions, scheduling appointments, answering phones, ordering supplies, billing, copying, faxing, data entry and maintaining patient charts.

Dialysis Tech Requirements

  • High School diploma, general education development ("GED") credential, or equivalent

  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in MS Word and Outlook required; functional proficiency in all computer systems of DaVita within 90 days of hire required

  • Dialysis Technician Certification by a CMS approved state certification program or a national commercially available certification program required within 18 months of hire or position change

  • Additional state requirements/ regulations where applicable Required Preferred

+ Assist other health care members in providing patient specific detailed education regarding adequacy measures where appropriate - Online Clearance Monitoring (OLC) Adequacy Monitoring Program (AMP) Urea Kinetic Modeling (UKM) and regarding disease process/access.
+ Welcome assigned patients and inquire as to their well-being since their last treatment. Report any complaints or observations to the nurse supervisor.
+ Evaluate vascular access for patency and report any unusual findings to nurse supervisor.
+ Obtain necessary pre and post treatment vital signs and weight. Report unusual findings to nurse supervisor.
+ Perform vascular access evaluation pre-treatment and report unusual findings to nurse supervisor.
+ Perform vascular access cannulation and report any difficulties in cannulation or unusual findings to nurse supervisor.
+ Perform administration of Heparin as delegated or as allowed by state law.
+ Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders including blood flow (QB) and dialysate flow (QD).
+ Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed by physician order or as directed.
+ Monitor patients' response to dialysis therapy and report any unusual findings to nurse supervisor.
+ Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion; perform all relevant functions necessary for the discontinuation of treatment - document.
+ Discontinue dialysis treatment according to established procedures
+ Evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access - standing & sitting blood pressure.
+ Obtain Hemostasis and apply appropriate dressings.
+ Evaluate the patient for prior to discharge and report any unusual findings to nurse supervisor.
+ Perform and record Pre and Post dialysis evaluation weight and vital signs with initial identification.
+ Responsible for calculating and entry of individual patients' dialysis machine programming for Ultrafiltration (UF) goal; treatment time; Sodium (Na) modeling; and UF modeling as prescribed.
+ Responsible for ensuring appropriate safety alarms are enabled including Narrow Venous Limits (NVL) 160.
+ Record accurate and timely information regarding vital signs and treatment parameters onto the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification.
+ Responsible for accurate documentation of information related to patient treatment including completion of Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and if applicable progress notes.
+ Report any significant information and/or change in patient condition directly to the nurse supervisor.
+ Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks according to facility policy. Report any change or unusual findings to the nurse supervisor.
+ Perform and document any intervention for unusual patient status and document patients' response to intervention.
+ Evaluate patients' vascular access during treatment including arterial and venous monitoring pressures provide appropriate intervention as needed document and report any unusual findings to the nurse supervisor.
+ Obtain all prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens for collection.
MAINTENANCE/TECHNICAL:
+ Maintain environmental integrity and aesthetics - ensure all areas are safe and clean.
+ Clean and disinfect dialysis machine surface chair equipment and surrounding area between treatments according to facility policy.
+ Conduct all tasks necessary for preparation for dialysis treatment and document where appropriate.
+ Perform all required pretreatment dialysis machine alarm testing including Pressure Holding (PHT).
+ Initiate Solution Delivery System (SDS) system.
+ Ensure that all blood spills are immediately cleaned with appropriate disinfectant according to facility policy.
+ Prepare organize and efficiently utilize supplies and equipment to prevent wastage.
CLERICAL & ADMINISTRATIVE:
+ Complete and document ongoing participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
+ Enters all treatment data into the designated clinical application accurately and in a timely manner.
+ Review treatment sheets for completeness ensure nursing signatures are documented and ensure omitted entries are completed or corrected where appropriate.
+ Prepare initial patient chart for admission and compile paperwork for appropriate placement in chart.
+ Prepare lab requisitions for prescribed or stat Lab specimens according to laboratory destination.
+ Collect label appropriately prepare and store lab samples according required laboratory specifications.
+ Ensure collection of lab specimens by appropriate lab courier.
OTHER:
+ Perform additional duties as assigned.

+ May assist HT RN on Home Visit as directed

Akron General's 5400 Oncology Unit provides care to cancer patients, trains caregivers to give therapy, and provides hands-on learning to achieve chemotherapy competency. As a Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA) on the team, you will perform various tasks, ensuring patients receive frequent attention and observation as needed. This is a hands-on role that requires a present, attentive and patient caregiver who is willing to learn new medical technologies and thrive in a fast-paced environment. On this team, you will gain a wide variety of skills you can use in advanced positions or other departments like the ICU.
**A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:00PM - 11:30PM, including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year.**
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Prepare units, patient rooms, and patient beds for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patients, transfer, or emergencies.
+ Provide and document assigned care, such as bathing, changing/refreshing bed linens, dressing/undressing, feeding, etc.
+ Take and document the patient's temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight, and height.
+ Perform treatment procedures, such as venous blood draws, enemas, application of ice and heat packs, non-sterile compresses, skin preps, setting up oxygen equipment, bed scale weights, setting up overhead trapeze and Buck's traction.
+ Assist with pre-operative and post-operative care, such as turning and positioning patients with proper body mechanics, applying/utilizing special equipment and ambulating the patient as directed in a safe, prescribed manner.
+ Assist and accompany patients during admission, transfer and discharge.

This is a hands-on role that requires a present, attentive and patient caregiver who is willing to learn new medical technologies and thrive in a fast-paced environment. On this team, you will gain a wide variety of skills you can use in advanced positions or other departments like the ICU.
**A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:00PM - 11:30PM, including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year.**
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Prepare units, patient rooms, and patient beds for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patients, transfer, or emergencies.
