What you'll bring

  • Strong business tax preparation experience and extensive knowledge of tax laws as evidenced by 3 or more years of recent experience preparing federal and state business tax returns (1065 and/or 1120-S) for at least 20 clients/customers per season for compensation, using commercial tax preparation software.

Job Description

What You'll Do: This position involves, among other things, research, analysis, technical and persuasive writing, and written and oral presentations for utility consumer advocacy in such forums as the Public Utilities Commission (PUCO) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Written and oral presentations including testimony and cross-examination in hearings. The employee will work with analysts, attorneys, retained experts and others on projects and legal cases for consumer protection.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and dissect complex economic issues in utility filings.
  • Deep dive into revenue requirements, including rate base, operations and maintenance (O&M), depreciation, and taxes.
  • Assess the impact of proposed rate changes on consumer bills.

Qualifications

The preferred candidate will have 10+ years of experience in utility regulations. This experience should include familiarity with utility regulatory proceedings, accounting, finance, rate-making principles, economics, and/or equivalent experience. Applicants should demonstrate excellence in oral and written communications, including persuasive writing and making technical issues understandable. A thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (including Excel, Word, and Outlook), online research, and other technology used in consumer advocacy is expected.

Applicants must have at least a bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or economics or other related degree.

Preferred Qualifications: A graduate is preferred. Direct experience with the PUCO is also preferred.

Monitoring Services Positions

The Office of Fiscal and Monitoring Services (OFMS) Monitoring Services Division is responsible for providing risk management services for OFMS and ODJFS. The division manages risk through subrecipient and contractor monitoring. The division provides training, technical assistance, audit liaison services, and resolution services. The division provides oversight for counties, workforce local areas, state agencies, and others. Additionally, the division manages the County Finance Information System (CFIS). Their services also include technical assistance and training for Ohio's counties. Our focus is on efficient and effective business operations, internal control, and compliance. What You'll Do

Working Title: CFIS Help Desk Support

1. Strengthens county relationships through timely, friendly, and clearly written emails from the CFIS Help Desk.

2. Specific Duties include:

a. Send CFIS Alert communications to county and state CFIS users.

b. Add, maintain, and inactivate CFIS county and state users.

c. Troubleshoot CFIS error messages.

d. Generate Text documents from an EXCEL spreadsheet for the ODJFS Listserv.

e. Complete an annual state fiscal year CFIS fiscal user validation process.

f. Create a quarterly spreadsheet to track receipt of county reports.

g. Use MS Teams to save and update CFIS Help Desk documents.

Schedule: Monday - F riday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Travel: Travel required, as needed. Must provide own transportation or, in order to operate a state vehicle, you, must have a valid drivers license.

Qualifications

Pay Information

T his position is in the State of Ohio's OCSEA/AFSCME Pay Schedule, Pay Range 30. Unless required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be the minimum salary of that pay range (step 1, currently $24.66 per hour). These ranges provide a standardized pathway for pay increases. With continued employment, new hires move to the next step in the range after 6 months and annually thereafter. Cost of Living Adjustments increase wages in these ranges each fiscal year. The current step progression wages are in the table below.

This position plays a key role in managing Nationwide's corporate credit card program, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficiency across the enterprise.

What You'll Do:

  • Assists in the preparation of complex financial information provided to external auditors, IRS and state examiners and responds to questions, as required.
  • Prepares special reports and presentations as directed.

Typical Skills and Experience:

Education: Undergraduate studies in accounting or finance; accounting major and degree preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Progress towards CPA preferred.

Experience: Two to four years of related accounting experience. Insurance experience preferred.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: GAAP and/or STAT knowledge, practices and procedures. Insurance and/or business area regulatory requirements. Financial statement preparation. Verbal and written communication skills for contact with all levels of management or external entities. Ability to analyze complex and advanced reporting requirements and financial data to determine proper compliance and disposition. Ability to effectively operate a personal computer and related accounting, financial analysis and business software.
