Job Description
This position will have joint appointments in the Swank Autism Center and the Center for Healthcare Delivery Science - Delaware Valley ( ). The CHDS is a research center across the Nemours enterprise. Anne E. Kazak, Ph.D., ABPP is the enterprise director, Melissa A. Alderfer, PhD is the Center Director in Delaware and Susana Patton, PhD is the Center Director in Florida. The CHDS includes 20+ investigators that study ways to improve health care, health equity, and health and wellness beyond medicine for youth and their families. Research projects span a variety of medical conditions (e.g., diabetes, cancer, cardiac conditions, obesity, sickle cell disease, cystic fibrosis, pain) and other health-related challenges (COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy, homelessness, maternal post-partum depression, racism).
The research scientist will join a multidisciplinary team including providers in psychology, developmental medicine, psychiatry, neurology, social work, nursing, and applied behavior analysis, as well as colleagues who are autistic and/or caregivers. The Swank Autism Center has a dedicated Clinical Research Coordinator and CHDS has additional research coordination and data analysis resources.
The Research Scientist would have opportunities to precept trainees including externs, residents, and/or fellows who rotate through the center. Teaching, training, and mentoring are core values in our division and these efforts are supported and encouraged.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Candidates must hold a PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or other doctoral degree in a health-related discipline and demonstrate evidence of collaborative academic productivity and either success in obtaining funding for research or a strong potential to obtain funding for research.

Senior Research Scientist - Myeloid Diseases

Job Description
We are seeking a scientist to support cancer drug discovery programs through in vitro target validation studies. The role involves working independently with molecular and cellular biology techniques, including genetic screens (CRISPR/shRNA), and applying knowledge of cancer biology. Experience with myeloid diseases (AML, MDS, MPN), oncogenic signaling pathways, and targeted therapies is a plus. The scientist will collaborate with their supervisor to design and execute experiments that answer key questions about target biology.
**What you will be doing:**
+ Quantify gene and protein expression in cell lines and patient samples
+ Design reagents necessary for genetic screens and validation of knock-down
+ Execute and interpret cell-based assays to evaluate the impact of target knockdown or inhibition.
+ Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments, evaluate data, prepare reports and presentations for internal meetings in a timely manner.
+ Should be proficient at reviewing the relevant scientific literature to build protocols using Pubmed and other resources.
+ Collaborate with other functional groups within drug discovery to achieve shared goals.
+ Flexibility to acquire additional competencies and skillsets as needed.
+ Should be highly independent and organized, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
**You are:**
+ Master's degree with 2+ years experience or PhD with 0-2 years experience in Molecular/Cell Biology or related fields.
+ Strong in vitro skills including cancer cell-based experiments with CRISPR/shRNA, therapeutics, and tool compounds
+ Proficient in molecular biology techniques, including Western Blotting, ddPCR, multicolor flow cytometry, ELISA, HTRF, MSD, and CTG.
+ Desirable but not required: experience in ex-vivo culture of human cells, immune cell separation using magnetic beads.
+ Experience in myeloid disease biology (AML, MDS, MPN) preferred
+ Office based in Wilmington. DE

We are looking for a motivated scientist with experience in recombinant protein production to join our structural biology team. In this role, you will be responsible for expressing, purifying, and characterizing recombinant proteins and complexes to support Cryo-EM and Crystallography studies.
**What you will be doing:**
+ **Protein Expression:** Transfection of plasmids into mammalian cells and cell line maintenance, generation of baculovirus and expression of proteins in Sf9 cells, expression of proteins in bacterial systems. Good experience expressing proteins is very important for this position. Maintaining
+ **Protein Purification:** Design, optimize, and execute protocols for the purification of recombinant proteins using commonly applied chromatography techniques (e.g., affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion).
+ **Biophysical Characterization:** Perform biophysical characterization of purified proteins, including but not limited to analytical SEC, Differential Scanning Fluorimetry (DSF), Thermal Stability Assays,
+ **Data Analysis & Reporting:** Maintain detailed records of experimental designs, data, and results. Analyze and interpret data for presentation to key stakeholders.
+ **Team Collaboration:** Work closely with structural biology team to determine protein constructs with optimal stability and functionality.
+ Help the daily operations of the protein production team, maintaining a highly productive protein production laboratory, performing small- and large-scale expression and purification experiments, characterization of samples, and contributing to development of the lab.
+ As a team member, develop and implement short and long-term strategies to enhance protein production capabilities.
+ Good understanding or experience with vectors and cloning strategies needed for protein expression in different cell systems.
+ Help troubleshooting recombinant protein expression to maximize protein yield.
+ Ability to work independently (but under guidance) to deliver high quality purified protein samples and complexes for structural studies.
+ Ability to efficiently and reproducibility follow established workflows.
+ Cryo-EM and Crystallography experience is highly desirable but not required.
**You are:**
+ BS/MS with minimal of 2-3 years of experience.
+ Proven experience supporting drug discovery programs using structural biology and biochemistry is desirable.
+ Good communication and interpersonal skills.
+ Proven experience working with matrix teams.
+ Self-driven, creative and entrepreneurial with ability to support multiple programs simultaneously.
+ Office based in Wilmington. DE
