About the role

As a Child Development Specialist (CDS), you will support the Oakland families in your caseload, working with children ages 0-5 years old and their caregivers in our Early Head Start/ Head Start program. You will get to work with parents/caregivers to enhance their ability to fill the role of primary nurturer of their child, and to prepare the child for Pre-K and Kindergarten.

In this role, you will visit your caseload weekly in 90-minute home visits. You will work to promote positive birth outcomes, enhance child development, and promote healthy family relationships. You’ll maintin contact with your caseload of families to integrate services into the family setting, such as health, nutrition, family services, mental health, special services, parent education and resources/referrals. This role also requires writing notes and entering data after every visit with a client.

Our CDS’s receive top-tier supervision and support. You’ll receive in-depth training on the curriculum designed to deliver child growth and development, health, educational, and nutritional information. In addition to regular 1:1 and group meetings, you will receive annual trainings to continually grow professionally.

Candidate Requirements

  • Preferred: Four-year degree in Social Work, Psychology, Child Development, or some college with work experience OR 12 Early Childhood Education (ECE) units
  • Experience working with children from 0-5 years old
  • Bilingual in Spanish/ English is required
  • Strong computer skills and writing skills
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, reliable vehicle and car insurance. After conditional offer letter, must complete a background check and have no history of abuse/neglect.

  • Coordinate with teammates to implement group socializations twice monthly
  • Coordinate with caregivers to ensure that prenatal, well-child exams, immunizations, health and dental screenings, and nutrition assessments are complete and necessary follow up occurs
  • Complete family all required assessments with families in a timely manner
  • Meet deadlines for required paperwork, documentation and grant reports
  • Collaborate with community partner agencies to access services for participating families

Our client is seeking an experienced and compassionate Lead Child Development Specialist to oversee educational programs and provide direct care in a vibrant childcare center located in San Francisco, California. This role requires a dedicated professional who is passionate about fostering a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for young children. The Lead Child Development Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing age-appropriate curriculum, guiding a team of childcare providers, and ensuring the highest standards of child safety and well-being. You will work closely with parents to build strong partnerships, communicating progress and addressing any concerns. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of child psychology, early childhood education theories, and best practices in childcare. Exceptional leadership and communication skills are essential for effectively managing a team and collaborating with diverse stakeholders. You will also be responsible for conducting observations, assessments, and creating individualized development plans for each child. This role demands creativity, patience, and a genuine commitment to the holistic development of children, from infancy through preschool age. Key responsibilities include: designing and delivering engaging educational activities; supervising and mentoring childcare staff; maintaining a safe and clean learning environment; conducting regular child assessments and progress reporting; managing parent communications and providing support; ensuring compliance with all licensing regulations and safety protocols; developing and implementing center-wide policies and procedures related to child development; and contributing to the overall management of the childcare facility.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate age-appropriate curriculum and learning activities.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor a team of early childhood educators.
  • Ensure a safe, healthy, and stimulating environment for all children.
  • Conduct regular child observations, assessments, and developmental screenings.
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding child progress, concerns, and program updates.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation as required by licensing agencies.
  • Implement and enforce all center policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Plan and lead staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Manage classroom resources and supplies effectively.
  • Collaborate with administrative staff to ensure smooth center operations.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a licensed childcare setting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • California Early Childhood Education Permit (preferred).
  • Thorough knowledge of child development stages, learning theories, and curriculum development.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • Proficiency in child assessment tools and techniques.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and licensing regulations.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Patience, creativity, and a passion for working with children.
