**Responsibilities**
+ Utilize technical software programs on a regular basis to analyze, produce, and QC deliverables for our clients.
+ Contribute to the pre-construction civil engineering design, planning, modification, permitting, and analysis for multiple projects ranging in size and scope.
+ Solve complex problems, assist project managers, and collaborate across disciplines to produce our clients' visions for the future built environment.
+ Develop familiarity with the federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Kimley-Horn's and our client's practices, procedures, and standards.
+ Analysts will learn one or more software programs specific to their disciplines: AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Excel, Microstation, VISSIM, Open Roads, Synchro and/or GIS.

**Description**

Transmission & Distribution

+ As a member of a multi-disciplined engineering and design team, you will work on a wide range of power plant projects and perform civil site development work that includes preparing calculations, designs, and specifications.
+ As a member of the Civil Engineering group, you will coordinate with project managers, client personnel, contractors and suppliers, and permitting agency personnel as necessary to ensure a complete and timely design.
+ Depending on the scope of work and the complexity of the design, you may guide other civil engineers and civil designers in taking on and completing civil engineering project work.
+ Your responsibilities may include the following:
+ Prepare calculations relating to storm water drainage, sanitary sewer systems, pavement thickness, ponds and landfills, and earthwork to support permitting and design.
+ Prepare technical specifications to define construction requirements.
+ Prepare site layout, grading, and drainage designs, and work with designers to accurately portray designs in 3-D models and design drawings.
+ Design storm drainage systems, roads, trackwork, water storage and wastewater disposal ponds, and solid waste landfills.
+ Review contractor and material submittal drawings and other vendor documentation for conformity with technical specifications.
+ There is the potential for you to travel to client offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs.

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week.

Essential skills and experience:
+ This position requires a BSCE from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program.
+ Puerto Rico PE license is required.
+ Five (5) or more years of working in a project team environment in the design of industrial projects, power plant experience preferred, with specific experience in site grading and mass earthwork, storm water management, sanitary sewage systems, process wastewater systems, and road and railroad track design.
+ Experience in technical writing for reports, calculations, and specifications.
+ Experience in preparing, submitting, and obtaining site related permits from regulatory agencies.
+ Proficiency with one or more of the following civil engineering design tools: Civil 3D, StormCad, PondPack, and AutoTurn.
+ Must be bilingual in Spanish and English (Speak, Read, and Write).
+ Proficiency with MS Office applications.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ The ability to work in a team environment is essential.
+ This position in based in San Juan, PR and may require occasional travel.

**Description**
The Assistant Civil/Transmission Engineer will work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer to assist project teams to create world class designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on a variety of projects including underground and overhead high voltage transmission lines. The Assistant Civil/Transmission Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting transmission line plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.
+ Assists in the transmission line design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
+ Assists with modifying and reviewing production drawings for a variety of projects involving high voltage (69-500kV) transmission lines.
+ Assists in designing transmission line components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers including plan and profile drawings, structure load diagrams and foundation drawings.
+ Applies basic knowledge of commonly used civil and structural engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the civil/structural engineering services industry.
+ Assists with research and compiles project related data as required by the project managers. Assists with compiling studies and reports.
+ Assists with correcting and updating drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.
+ Assists with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of high voltage transmission lines.
+ Assists in performing field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.

**Qualifications**
+ Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program required or;
+ Bachelor Degree in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam required.
+ Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
+ Basic knowledge in standard civil/structural engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
+ Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
+ Basic computer skills (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD), and civil/structural analysis programs.
+ Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem solving skills.
