Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Respond to emergencies or other situations/issues affecting the safety of other persons
* Protect highly valuable property, such as equipment, material, grounds, etc.
* Patrol an assigned area and/or stands at a fixed post
* Perform security checks of buildings and grounds
* Check persons on the premises to determine if they possess proper identifications and are authorized to be present on ASM property
* Check identification of persons who enter facilities or grounds
* Complete incident reports as required
* Conduct preliminary internal and criminal investigations relevant to incidents within an assigned area
* Intervene in disturbances/incidents to maintain peace or restore order
* Effect arrest, where warranted, and authorized
* Erect and remove barricades, temporary signs, and other materials for parking and crowd management
* All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Every person who has or controls directly or indirectly more than a five percent ownership, income, or profit interest in an entity which has or applies for a license in accordance with the provisions of this Chapter, or who receives more than five percent revenue interest in the form of a commission, finder's fee, loan repayment, or any other business expense related to the private security business, or every person who is an officer or a director of the company, or who has the ability, in the opinion of the board, to exercise a significant influence over the activities of a licensee authorized or to be authorized by this Chapter, shall meet all suitability requirements and qualifications for licensees

The Public Safety Officer performs access control in accordance to University and Department Policies. They will be expected to respond immediately and appropriately to all emergency, contingency, or disaster situations and will respond as soon as possible to all calls assigned by the Public Safety Dispatcher and/or other appropriate entity. The Public Safety Officer shall document all incidents and inform Public Safety Dispatcher and/or Management of all actions taken. They will be trained to complete incident reports in a professional manner and shall be required to write in a clear and legible style.

Public Safety officers are required to maintain accountability and chain of custody of all property, evidence, and equipment that is issued or comes into their possession. They provide walking and vehicle escorts to ensure the safety of the requester in accordance with University policies. They patrol the University property and grounds, document and act upon all deficiencies and/or violations of policy. They will notify appropriate personnel and Management of serious incidents and will observe, evaluate, and act upon security camera monitoring and alarm systems.

Position Description

A Public Safety Officer patrols the campus to discourage criminal behavior, provides shuttle transportation, secures buildings, and interacts with all members of the Community to promote a sense of well-being and security, and enhance the quality of life on the Eastern University campus.
The position has 2 vacancies on a part-time basis, 16-24 hours per week, 12 months per year.
Shift #1: 11pm-7am Friday/Saturday & Sunday 24 hours/week.
Shift #2: 11pm-7am Friday & Saturday 16 hours/week.
Position Responsibilities

1. Protection of life and property, and interdiction of criminal activity through, high visibility, vehicular and foot patrol on the campus and maintains log of all patrol activities.
2. Uses Radio/telephone to answer all calls.
3. Provides Shuttle transportation to Rail Stations, and other areas assigned and maintains log of passengers.
4. Regulates campus vehicular and pedestrian traffic to enhance safety and expedite flow. Enforces University parking regulations.
5. Responds to emergency situations, including alarms, medical emergencies, and crimes in progress and summons municipal Police, Fire, and EMS assistance when required.
6. Identifies, reports, and resolves conditions and circumstances that are hazardous to people and property. Inspects buildings and properties for proper maintenance and working order.
7. Interacts with the community and visitors, acting as a goodwill ambassador and rendering assistance where needed.
8. Administers First Aid and CPR when necessary.
9. Investigates crimes, accidents, and other noteworthy incidents, summoning the assistance of municipal services when indicated, and prepares and submits concise and comprehensive reports in accordance with procedures.
10. Secures and unlocks campus buildings in accordance with schedules and procedures.
11. Provides Safe Walk escorts for members of the Community and visitors.
12. Embodies values of caring and compassion, justice and integrity, competence and affirmation.
13. Seeks to treat each member of the campus community with fairness, dignity and respect seeking a spirit of unity and harmony as we join together to achieve our common mission.
14. This position is a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and must report any crimes or incidents that may be crimes that are reported to them.
Qualifications

  • The Public Safety Officer must possess a High School diploma or GED and good work history required. The applicant must possess a valid driver's license; have a clean driving record and at least one year driving experience.
  • Must be able to drive safely at night and in poor weather.
  • Proven computer literacy (Microsoft Office Word, Excel), excellent written and verbal communications skills, are required.
  • Must be capable of passing a background investigation including criminal records check and a physical and/or psychological examination.
  • Ability to follow instructions and get along with others.
  • The physical demands of this position must be met by an employee in order to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Heavy lifting a must (not in excess of 50 pounds).
  • Ability to sit or stand for prolonged period of time, must also be able to bend, stoop, squat, reach above shoulder level, kneel, lift and carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds.

Essential Job Functions: Receives and transmits 911 and administrative messages over a combined police, fire, and medical emergency communications system. Receives complaints and general requests via telephone and walk-ins for police, fire and medical emergency services and routes calls to proper personnel. Dispatches police vehicles by radio, receives and transmits orders and instructions using appropriate code language to police officers at the scene of an emergency, and dispatches back-up units to provide adequate coverage to other areas. Forwards fire and medical emergency calls to Tolland County Mutual Aid dispatch center and/or surrounding towns. Dispatches police vehicles to emergency medical calls and notifies ambulance service to respond. Inputs, retrieves, and transmits information to/from National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Connecticut Online Law Enforcement Communication Teleprocessing (COLLECT) and internal computer system. Uses a CCTV system to monitor and control entrance ways, cell blocks for Police and Town areas. Receives and transmits complaint calls to Animal Control Officer; Operates Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) to input and maintain daily complaints as well as various other records management duties.

Physical Demands: Must be able to able to push/pull/lift light objects of less than twenty-five (25) pounds and sit for prolonged periods. Able to perform manipulative skills which require hand-eye coordination such as keyboarding skills. Must be able to see objects closely, as in typing, reading a report, using a computer, monitoring video display screens. Must be able to hear normal sounds with background noise, distinguish voice patterns and communicate with speech as in using a telephone and two-way radio communications.
Must be able to concentrate on fine detail with constant interruptions, attend to task for more than sixty (60) minutes at a time, and remember multiple assignments given to self or others over long periods of time.

* Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) preferred

The Hartford Hospital Public Safety department has been in existence for over 40 years providing a wide variety security services to the hospital community. The department has over 90 members that are all State of CT certified. Officers receive additional training from a certified in house instructor upon hire.

Job Summary

Public Safety Officers serve as front line guardians to the Hartford HealthCare Community by providing customer service and ensuring our environments are safe, secure and more prepared for all of our patients, visitors, colleagues, clinicians and physicians. Public Safety Officers are equipped to prevent hazardous situations with their presence, respond and manage hazardous and emergency situations and provide support and resources when situations are successfully managed.

* Provides professional, customer service focused assistance to the HHC Community including patients, visitors, families, colleagues, clinicians, physicians, and the first responder community, among others.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Security Officer protects a defined area or facility against fire, theft, hazardous conditions, and illegal or unauthorized entry to Grady Health System property and/or restricted System areas. Monitors radio transmissions and responds to assigned calls and emergency calls for service. JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
