The candidate selected for this role will be required to work on-site, full-time, at our Annapolis Junction campus - please note that this is **not** a remote work opportunity. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
+ Perform manual and automated security assessments, with a focus on vulnerability remediating and system hardening, using tools such as Tenable Security Center.
+ Maintain accurate records of open and resolved security vulnerabilities and findings using dashboards and analytic tools.
+ Coordinate vulnerability remediation activity through System Administrators using ticketing tools such as Jira to track findings until they are resolved.
+ Verify System Administrators have successfully remediated security findings.
+ Recommend and implement solutions to streamline the vulnerability management process.
+ Produce and maintain documentation for required configurations which do not fully comply with all security requirements, obtaining approval from accrediting authorities when needed.
+ Monitor previously mitigated issues to ensure they are not reintroduced by future activities.
+ Review output from security tools, identifying systems that do not comply with accepted configurations and working with IT to have those issues addressed.
+ Supply feedback on Cybersecurity questions or problems from stakeholders outside of the Cybersecurity team, including end users, IT team members, software developers, and lab engineers.

**Basic Qualifications for Level 2:**

We are looking for a **Cybersecurity Intern.** This role is a **full-time internship role and is remote** . The internship dates are June 1, 2026 to July .
**This internship is a full-time opportunity requiring a commitment of** **40 hours** **per week.** **Candidates must be available during core business hours (8:30 am EST to 5:00 pm EST) for the entire 9-week duration of the program.** **Please note that all work must be performed within the United States.** **This position does not offer work authorization sponsorship now or in the future. **What You'll Do**
+ Support and perform security assessment and accreditation activities on IT systems and applications including security and compliance audits, risk assessments, security plans, and performing system tests and evaluation
+ Support and conduct verification and validation security testing
+ Review and document policy, incident response and remediation gaps
+ Collaborate with senior cybersecurity professionals to develop action plans for compliance related findings and recommendations
+ Document and maintain data that is used for supporting remediation activities
+ Provide support relative to security control implementation
+ Support the maintenance of security policies and procedures
+ Assist with testing of security controls to confirm system protection is in operation
**What You'll Need**
Required
+ Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree
+ Junior status with 3.5 GPA or higher
+ Able to meet established deadlines
+ Works well in a team environment
+ Technical aptitude to quickly grasp and understand system functionality
+ Attention to detail
+ Ability to document procedures and take notes
+ IT network or systems administration experience
Preferred
+ Familiarity with compliance frameworks and IT controls is desired, but not required
+ Security certifications such as CompTIA Security+ (Sec+), Cybersecurity Analyst (CYSA+), or other security related certifications are desired, but not required
**Physical Demands**
+ Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards
