The Cyber Threat Intelligence Research Intern will support Nelnet's cyber threat intelligence (CTI) program by conducting research, analysis, and dissemination of cyber threat insights. This role will identify threats and their potential impact on Nelnet by monitoring emerging cyber campaigns, profiling threat actors, cataloging indicators of compromise, and contributing to intelligence reports and briefings. The intern will support enterprise cybersecurity operations and help mature the CTI function to better serve security and risk teams across the organization.
**JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:**
+ Conduct research into cyber activity conducted by nation-state and cyber-criminal threat actors and identify tactics, techniques, and procedures used in cyber campaigns
+ Collect, analyze, catalog, and assist in the deployment of indicators of compromise (IOCs) associated with cyber threat actors to help refine detection and response efforts.
+ Identify relevant and actionable cyber threats, trends, and new developments in the threat landscape regarding cyber threat actors through analysis of open-source intelligence (OSINT), news articles, industry blogs/reports
+ Contribute to the development of internal briefings on cyber threat activity
+ Support the development of threat profiles into nation-state cyber and cyber-criminal threat actors
+ Conduct research into new vulnerabilities and impact to Nelnet's technology stack
+ Conduct research into digital threats impacting Nelnet and opportunities for digital risk protection for Nelnet associates and executives
+ Assist with the production of routine cyber threat intelligence products
+ Support the CTI program in identifying opportunities to enhance threat intelligence process
**EDUCATION:**
Currently pursuing a degree in international relations, Information Science & Technology, public policy, international security, or criminal justice.
Must be currently enrolled at the University of Nebraska at Omaha
**EXPERIENCE:**
+ Prior coursework, academic research, or internship experience in cybersecurity, threat intelligence, criminal justice, or a related field.
+ Demonstrated ability to research and analyze information from multiple sources.
+ Exposure to OSINT tools, cybersecurity blogs, or threat feeds is preferred.

• Maintain APMS database for tracking Information Assurance accreditation status
• Manage and maintain online repository of current PEO IEW&S A&A documentation
• Lead A&A activities within established timelines and recommend courses of action for compliance
• Develop cybersecurity education, training, mitigation strategies, and awareness programs

Required Experience or Knowledge of the following technologies/functions:

• Cybersecurity frameworks
• FISMA

The US national annual base salary range for this position is from $110,000 to $220,000. The national range provided includes the base salary that GBT expects to pay for the role. Responsibilities:

Provide Cybersecurity Engineering for Developmental and Systems Support:

• Provide systems engineering and analysis support to the C5 community in support of cybersecurity requirements per AR 25-2 and corresponding DA PAMs ensure the security and availability of Mission Command as well as Communications systems.

• Provide tailored C5ISR engineering analysis concerning Cybersecurity integration at the request of Government and advise the Government of any potential technical issues that result from this integration that present risk to achieving the goals of the digital force.

• Areas of focus may include communications security development and engineering support as well as programmatic and technology development for external organizations, including joint programs. Technical subject areas include encryption technologies, communications security/transmission security, satellite network security, cellular, radio and Tactical Internet security and cross-domain solutions.

Information Management Support:

• Provide desktop hardware and software support, to include inter-operable and integrated standard office automation desktop software support.

• Areas of focus may include determining hardware and software needs, installing software, diagnosis of problems that may involve applications, update/patch/resolve any desktop/laptop issues related to security inspections, and analyze network failures in order to isolate problem areas.

• Develop and maintain a system, as approved by the hand receipt holder, that maintains 100% of all equipment.

• Have knowledge of Government security policies and familiarity with security-related technologies, Endpoint Security products, Security Information and Event Management, Public Key Infrastructure and Auditing Tools employed within DoD architectures.

• Be capable of providing security engineering analysis on a variety of information systems and guide the development of Cybersecurity policy, network and cyber security architecture, implementation plans, certification and accreditation for PEO C3N systems.

• Shall implement and enforce security policies across the organization as well as install, test and evaluate cyber security products.

• Experience with scripting languages (Python, Java, PowerShell, etc).

Education Requirements:

• SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must have an active security clearance at the Top Secret level.

• Master's Degree in one of the following: Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or a related scientific or technical discipline.

• Minimum of eight (8) years of experience, ten (10) years of experience preferred, in TCP/IP, Information Security/Authorization profiles, and security administration of Windows and Linux systems.

• IAT Level II Certification required.

The estimated annual pay range for this position is $210,000 - $300,000 which includes a base salary and bonus.
