The Cybersecurity AI Engineer at Nelnet plays a critical role in securing the organization's AI/ML infrastructure and applications. This position works at the intersection of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and operations, focusing on protecting machine learning models, LLMs, data pipelines, and associated services from evolving threats. The ideal candidate combines expertise in security engineering with a deep understanding of AI technologies, and partners across IT, security, and data science teams to implement resilient, compliant, and secure AI solutions.
This role requires strong technical acumen, practical problem-solving, and a forward-thinking mindset to defend next-generation AI systems. You will:
- Monitor, evaluate, and enhance the security posture of AI/ML systems, APIs, and model-serving environments.
- Implement detection mechanisms to identify adversarial AI threats such as model abuse, prompt injection, data poisoning, and model theft.
- Collaborate with development, operations, and SOC teams to secure AI environments throughout the lifecycle.
- Automate threat detection and remediation workflows related to AI misuse.
- Evaluate and integrate AI security tools and model governance solutions.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of AI-specific threat models and control frameworks.
- Stay current on emerging threats to AI systems and participate in blue/red/purple team exercises involving LLMs and AI services.
**AI and Security Engineering**
· Secure AI/ML model development and deployment environments (e.g., LLMs, vector databases, training pipelines).
· Create automated tools to detect and mitigate AI-related threats (e.g., anomalous model outputs, prompt injections).

**Pay Range for this role is - $100,000 -$135,000
**EDUCATION:**
Knowledge equivalent to the completion of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field of study.
**EXPERIENCE:**
+ 3-5 years in a cybersecurity, security engineering, or threat detection role.
+ Hands-on experience with machine learning systems, LLMs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, or open-source models), or AI/ML platforms (e.g., SageMaker, Azure ML, Vertex AI).
+ Familiarity with adversarial machine learning concepts, model risk, or AI red teaming is preferred.
+ Experience with SIEM platforms, threat detection tools, or security automation frameworks.
+ Experience in application security, DevSecOps, or secure software development lifecycle (SDLC) is a plus.

Grifols Diagnostic Solutions Inc is seeking a Cybersecurity Specialist in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina. The Cybersecurity Specialist supports the Technical Support department within Grifols Diagnostics by ensuring the cybersecurity integrity of diagnostic instruments, software, and connected systems. This role bridges technical support and cybersecurity, helping to identify, assess, and mitigate risks while ensuring compliance with global regulatory standards. The position plays a key role in incident response, vulnerability management, and secure product lifecycle support.

This dedicated function will support the Technical Support department by providing expert guidance on cybersecurity matters related to diagnostic instruments, software platforms, and connected systems.
**Primary responsibilities for role:**
+ Serve as the cybersecurity point of contact within the Technical Support department
+ Collaborate with R&D, QA, and Regulatory teams to assess and address cybersecurity risks
+ Support secure configuration, patch management, and vulnerability remediation
+ Assist in incident response and root cause analysis for cybersecurity-related issues
+ Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., FDA, MDR, ISO/IEC 27001)
+ Maintain documentation and reports related to cybersecurity activities
+ Provide training and awareness on cybersecurity best practices
+ Participate in audits and regulatory inspections as needed
+ Contribute to the development of secure support processes and tools
+ Stay current with emerging threats and technologies in medical device cybersecurity
**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**
+ Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, risk management, and regulatory frameworks
+ Familiarity with diagnostic instruments, embedded systems, and networked medical devices
+ Excellent communication and collaboration skills
+ Analytical thinking and problem-solving ability
+ High attention to detail and integrity in handling sensitive information
+ Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple priorities
+ Proficiency in cybersecurity tools and incident response practices
**Education**
Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
**Experience**
Typically requires 5 years of related experience in cybersecurity, preferably in the medical device or diagnostics industry. Experience in technical support, regulatory compliance, or IT security is highly valued.
**Equivalency**
Depending on the area of assignment, directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience and/or competencies may be considered in place of the stated requirements. Example: If a job level requires a Bachelor's degree plus 4 years of experience, an equivalency could include 8 years of experience, an Associate's degree with 6 years of experience, or a Master's degree with 2 years of experience.
