DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supports general and special education teachers, staff, parents and students through remediation of social, behavioral and emotional concerns affecting students' academic progress.
- Assesses students' behavior in the classroom/school setting for the purpose of identifying and recommending positive behavioral supports.
- Assists general education and special education teachers in the identification and development of individualized instructional/behavioral interventions intended to change behavior; using evidence based practices.
- Designs, models, and develops materials needed to implement recommended instructional and/or behavioral intervention strategies.
- Collaborates with principals, teachers, and special education staff to identify, plan and implement professional development activities in the area of classroom and behavior management, non-violent crisis intervention training.
- Makes recommendations to instructional leaders, teachers and support staff for the development of instructional materials, accommodations, modifications and assessments, behavioral supports, and changes to the learning environment needed for all students to be successful and access the curriculum.
- Researches resources and research-based practices for the purpose of determining appropriate behavioral interventions to address students' individualized needs.
- Serves as a team member on various HCS and community groups.

- Work is performed in both office and school environments.
- Travel between school sites is required.
- Occasional lifting of materials or assistance with physically managing student behaviors may be necessary.
- Master's degree in Special Education, Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Social Work, or related field required.
- Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) preferred but not required.
- Valid state licensure or endorsement as required by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).
- At least three years of experience working with students with behavioral challenges in educational settings.
- Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and state regulations related to behavior supports.

This position is responsible for overseeing and supporting all aspects of clinical and field internship education, ensuring that EMS students are placed in high-quality, hands-on learning environments that reflect the dynamic nature of prehospital care.
The specialist ensures that all clinical and capstone field internship personnel-such as paramedics, EMTs, and preceptors-are thoroughly oriented to the program's educational standards, expectations, and evaluation processes. They maintain accurate and timely documentation of student performance and progression, ensuring that each learner meets competency benchmarks aligned with national EMS education standards and provides regular updates to the Program Director and Dean.
By coordinating student placements, cultivating strong partnerships with healthcare and public safety agencies, and upholding a culture of excellence and accountability, the Clinical Education Specialist ensures that EMS students are fully prepared to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care in the field.
This is a restricted funded position. Funded through June 2028.
