Job Description
Assists Director of Workforce Development with assessing, planning, directing, evaluating, and teaching clinical and non-clinical educational activities for Hospital. Uses clinical knowledge and adult learning principles and techniques to provide educational services and events to clinical personnel that foster clinical competency. Supports staff of clinical educators in collaboration with the Director. Supports hospital-wide education initiatives as appropriate. Provides leadership coverage for the Workforce Development team when the Director is unavailable (PTO, sick, off-site meetings, etc.).
Maintains role of nursing professional development specialist for designated department(s). Responsible for clinical education support for designated department(s). Duties include communication and direction of clinical staff to comply with standards of practice; medical record review; staff education and training; policy and procedure review, revision, and development to meet most current standards. Advocates for evidence-based practice, works with other disciplines to provide interdisciplinary educational opportunities, represents nursing as appropriate during project implementation(s) and EHR updates, and facilitates practice transitions as needed. Provides clinical education experiences to foster professional development designated department, including orientation of new staff in addition to the ongoing development of current staff to include training and competency programs. Collaborates with leadership of designated department(s) to meet goals.
Reports to the Director of Nursing Education.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrates support for vision, strategy, and quality improvement activities that inform educational and organizational development goals.
- Collaborates with Director of Nursing Education to support the implementation and evaluation of strategic initiatives related to hospital-wide education and organizational development.
- Facilitates the development of educational programs that are compliant with regulatory requirements and operating needs of the Hospital.
- Makes fiscally responsible decisions.
- Participates in hospital-wide committees that address on-going educational and organizational development needs, ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies as requested by the Director of Workforce Development (e.g., Joint Commission, DPH, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission).
- Seeks to foster own professional development.
- Actively participates in quality and performance improvement activities. Reviews and revises policies and procedures. Develops, revises, and implements standards of care for designated department.
- Oversees competency validation and skills based on employee specific needs assessment in designated department (area of clinical specialty).
- Establishes individualized goals and experiences with both new and current staff.
- Establishes and maintains orientation documents
- Provides/coordinates experiential and Unit/Department specific learning opportunities.
- Facilitates the ongoing development of staff with a focus on clinical expertise, critical thinking, communication skills and professional behavior through role modeling activities.
- Ensures accurate and timely completion of orientation documentation for each employee
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Master's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Education preferred (if not, will be required to obtain within a determined timeline)
- Bachelor's Degree required (must be in nursing if no MSN)
- Seven (7) to ten (10) years professional clinical experience in an acute care hospital setting required
- Three (3) years nursing professional development/nursing education experience in acute care setting strongly preferred.
- Experience with classroom/clinical education and professional development required
- Current Registered Nurse license in Connecticut required
- Demonstrated competence in organizational development and education
- Demonstrated competency in adult learning principles and techniques and classroom and/or small group instruction and facilitation
- Demonstrated leadership competencies including professionalism, teamwork, and interprofessional communication.
- Possesses knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, professional standards, and case law that govern educational and organizational development practice
- Perform automated functions that fall within job responsibility

- Oversee and manage staff with respect to deliverables, performance, and project commitments.
- A Bachelors degree preferably in architecture, construction management, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in the building design / construction, architecture, and/or engineering field.
- Prior experience with Higher Education preferred.
- Knowledge of permitting and zoning laws.
- Strong knowledge of various construction methodologies, project management models and financial management, as well as building codes, contract law and relevant legislation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the client relations, design, construction, and FF&E process.
- Demonstrated ability to manage various tasks, schedules, and deliverables.
- Enthusiasm to promote and drive implementation of projects.
- Professionally recognized designations are considered a strong asset.
- Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

This class works under the direct supervision of the Principal. The main job function is to assist in building and grounds security and to perform general custodial duties and make minor repairs.

Reporting to the Manager of Endocrinology, and Medical Director of Bone Health & Diabetes Management, if applicable. CDCES is a Registered Dietician who provides effective diabetes educational programs for patients and their families in accordance with the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education, functioning as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team. Provides medical nutritional therapy and medical management to patients, as appropriate.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides effective individual and group Diabetes Self-Management Education and Medical Nutrition Therapy, individualizing teaching plans. Chooses appropriate educational materials and interventions based on assessment of each patient's needs and the National Standards of the American Diabetes Association.
- Promotes positive behavioral changes to control risk factors for complications, via goal-setting. Schedules additional visits/telephone calls as appropriate to assist patients to reach or revise goals.
- Documents each patient's assessment, education plan, intervention, evaluation, and follow-up in the permanent confidential education record visits per department procedure, within 48 hours of patient visit. Documentation will show evidence of collaboration among instructional staff, providers, and referral sources.
- Responds to telephone calls from patients within 24 hours. Ensures that every patient seen has at least one follow-up visit, phone call or other contact.
- Obtains regular continuing education in the areas of diabetes management, behavioral interventions, teaching and learning skills, and counseling skills.
- Participates in departmental meetings and programs, special projects and community activities. Actively supports DSMP development and expansion.

- Bachelor's Degree in a related field.

General Description
The Adult Education School and Career Counselor provides comprehensive academic, career, and personal counseling services to adult learners enrolled in high school completion and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs. This position supports student success by addressing personal, family, and educational barriers to achievement and guiding learners on their academic and career pathways.
The position is fully in person and the ideal candidate would have a flexible schedule to work some mornings and evenings, up to 19 hours per week.
Supervision Received
Reports directly to the Director of Adult Education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Foster an environment that promotes positive social interactions and conflict-resolution skills.
- Encourage learners to respectfully question ideas and take intellectual risks.
- Guide students in setting academic, career, and personal development goals.
- Work with students to resolve personal, school, and family issues that may impact academic performance.
- Review transcripts and academic records; advise students on educational options and program placement.
- Make recommendations and referrals to appropriate school, community, and state resources.
- Assist in maintaining accurate and complete student records, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws.
- Disseminate information and provide counseling related to occupational and career planning.
- Coordinate and facilitate career exploration activities and events for adult learners.
- Support accurate data entry and maintain attention to detail in all recordkeeping.
- Proctor computer based testing for students.
- Attend monthly CT State Dept. of Education (CSDE) Career Navigator Meetings and monthly CSDE School Counselor Meetings
Additional Duties
- Assist in recruiting and enrolling eligible students into appropriate Adult Education programs.
- Conduct group and individual counseling sessions on topics such as college access, financial aid, scholarship searches, and financial literacy.
- Provide personal and family counseling as appropriate.
- Collaborate with Adult Education Center staff to determine student needs and develop individualized success plans.
- Serve as a liaison between students, staff, and the Adult Education Director.
- Work in partnership with Wallingford Public Schools counseling staff.
- Review and interpret educational documents, including transcripts, IEPs, 504 plans, and standardized test results.
- Mediate and help resolve conflicts between students and between students and staff.
- Collaborate with local and state agencies to provide wraparound services and resource access.
- Attend state and regional meetings and trainings as needed.
Qualifications / Certifications
- Valid Connecticut Certification as a School Counselor (068) is required.
- Minimum three years of school counseling experience preferred.
- Proven ability to work with diverse adult learners including those in ESL, GED, ABE, NEDP, and CDP programs.
- Knowledge of College and Career Readiness Standards and adult education database LACES preferred.
- Knowledge of state and federal education laws and policies.
- Considerable knowledge of the social, emotional, and cultural factors that influence adult learning.
