We are currently seeking an experienced **Power System Electrical Engineer** with a record of accomplishment in delivering data center and substation projects. This position can be in the **Houston** , **Dallas** , or **Austin** offices.
**The opportunity**
+ Prepares engineering calculations for equipment sizing such as short circuit study, load flow study, arc flash study, harmonic study, battery sizing study and station service transformer sizing study.
+ Execute protection and control tasks, including relay coordination, settings, and configuration.
+ Support commissioning activities related to protection systems.
+ Configure protection relays using industry-standard software such as SEL AcSELerator and Siemens DIGSI.
+ Develop detailed design packages including, one-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, wiring drawings, logic diagrams and panel elevations.
+ Select and size major electrical equipment such as Transformers, generators, switchgear, current transformers, and UPS systems.
+ Provide protection design and engineering services for substations ranging from 13.8 kV to 500 kV
+ Apply knowledge of renewable energy systems (wind, PV solar, BESS) and data center electrical systems (an asset).
+ Perform engineering documentation and calculations using Mathcad Prime or equivalent tools.
**The skills**
+ Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
+ Minimum of 8 years of related work experience.
+ Hands on experience with CAD software and well versed with engineering related software like ETAP, ASPEN and PSSE.
+ Demonstrated leadership experience in both project and discipline-level responsibilities.
+ Basic knowledge of SCADA system requirement inside substation.
+ Familiarity with IEEE standards for protection system, transformer, HV circuit breakers, disconnect switches, grounding and neutral grounding transformer
+ Experience with air insulated substation and gas insulated switchgear.

About the Position

AECOM has a position available for an **Electrical** **Engineer** to support our Transmission and Distribution group within the Energy practice Engineering Center of Excellence. **A Snapshot of Your Day**
You will engage with a multidisciplinary team to deliver on the engineering requirements of a rotating equipment project.
**How You'll Make an Impact**
+ Oversee the electrical engineering aspects of new rotating equipment projects, covering electric motor-driven compressor trains, gas turbine-generators, and additional components like coolers and valves, for both onshore and offshore applications.
+ Collaborate with the Project Engineer to address and resolve technical issues, ensuring effective communication with all stakeholders.
+ Uphold the highest standards of electrical engineering throughout the design and manufacturing process to guarantee excellence in all products.
+ Analyze and troubleshoot electrical systems in gas turbines, compressors, and process systems, ensuring optimal performance and design integrity.
+ Lead the drafting/design team in producing accurate project documentation, including contract documents and materials lists, and assist production with clear assembly instructions and drawing modifications.
+ Efficiently manage the electrical engineering schedule and budget, ensuring timely delivery of specifications and materials lists to clients, while providing continued technical support through warranty periods.
**What You Bring**
+ Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
+ 5+ years of experience in project execution, research and development, or similar roles. Those with more experience may be considered for a more senior level.
+ Proficient in specifying/configuring industrial power systems, MV drives, motors, switchgear, and other electrical equipment. Knowledge of MV drives, motor installation and commissioning, electrical design, and power systems.
+ Expertise in large electrical drives up to 50 MW, including accessories for cooling, control, monitoring, and protection of medium voltage motors, converters, switchgears, and transformer and knowledge of inverter topologies (VSI vs. LCI) and their interaction with transformer and motor design, in accordance with IEC60034, NEMA MG 1, and API standards.
+ Understanding of Explosion Protection Methods (as per IEC 60079 and NFPA 70 NEC 500/505), power generation systems, synchronization and protection relays. Solid understanding of packaging / assembly of motor driven compressor skid and its auxiliaries will be beneficial including design of mounting of cable trays & instruments, selection of cables and its accessories.
+ Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and teamwork skills, with a willingness to travel up to 10% for project needs.

Role Overview: Join our dynamic team to collaborate on reviewing customer applications using electric technologies for Low and Medium Voltage power systems in Halliburton’s Production Enhancement Product Service Line (PSL). You will support the development, delivery and commissioning of advanced technology solutions for oil & gas applications, aiming to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs and emissions, and maximize well productivity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster collaboration in developing technical solutions for electrical low and medium voltage power systems

  • Work with design, maintenance, and operation teams to ensure safe, reliable deployment of high-performance solutions

  • Engage with engineers, contractors, and suppliers to ensure component and subsystem performance, reliability, and quality

  • Analyze, design, and optimize electrical power systems for reliable and efficient power delivery. Including generation, distribution, and utilization of electricity

  • Create specifications, procedures, installation instructions, and test documents

  • Utilize various systems and software tools, including internal Product Data Management systems, SAP, and Microsoft Office

  • Participate in hands-on lab, full-scale, or field testing of relevant equipment and systems

  • Travel to well sites, customer offices, vendor offices, and other locations as required (10-15% of the time, including weekends and holidays)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with at least 5 years of power systems engineering experience; a Master’s degree is preferred

  • Experience with customer applications of mobile electrical gear

  • Experience solving complex issues and designing technical solutions related to power systems

  • Proficiency in electrical analysis software (e.g., SKM, ETAP)

  • Hands-on experience with electrical equipment and systems, including micro-grids, utility interfaces, NG generators, turbines, medium voltage switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, AC motors, and protection systems

  • Preferred experience in medium voltage power generation/distribution for oil & gas applications

  • Familiarity with large-scale industrial processes (chemical, pharmaceutical, oil & gas refining)

  • Understanding of commissioning power system solutions and troubleshooting skills

Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings, schematics, P&IDs, flow charts, and cause and effect diagrams

  • Proficiency in system analysis (load flow, short circuit, stability studies, fault, and harmonic analysis)

  • Excellent communication and critical thinking skills

Travel:

  • Required travel to various locations, including well sites and customer/vendor offices (10-15% of the time)
