Job Summary
Langan is seeking a Project Engineering Geologist to join its collaborative team in Irvine, CA or Los Angeles, CA. This individual will serve a key function in providing the scope and execution of field investigations, identifying geological hazards, and working with engineers to provide geologic support with respect to impact of site geologic conditions to site structures. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic group of engineering professions on a wide variety of challenging project sites.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop scope and execute field investigations;
- Work with engineers to provide geologic support with respect to impact of site geologic conditions to site structures;
- Develop geologic cross sections, geologic maps, and other pertinent figures for project reports;
- Identify and implement field and lab work solutions;
- Identify and characterize geologic hazards in the field;
- Research and compile geologic data for projects;
- Assist in training staff and quality control of staff work;
- Prepare and review logs and reports;
- Interact with clients and contractors;
- Manage projects and budgets; and
- Perform other duties as requested.
- Bachelor's degree in Geology; MS preferred;
- Professional Geologist (PG) license registration; Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG) preferred;
- 6+ years of experience in the field of engineering geology;
- Experience with geologic hazard investigations, with emphasis on landslide, A-P fault rupture evaluations and rockfall projects;
- Experience with performing detailed geologic mapping at a professional level;
- Experience with reviewing and interpreting stereo-paired aerial photographs;
- Ability to effectively communicate technical details to clients, co-workers, and staff;
- Excellent written communication skills;
- Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;
- Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment; and
- Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits and a valid driver's license in good standing.

The Specialist, Project Engineer is an intermediate professional with practical knowledge of job area. Works under moderate supervision to set objectives for own job area. Communicates with contacts inside and outside own team to explain and interpret operational processes, practices, and procedures. Identifies and addresses changes within own job area. Works to achieve operational targets with some impact on departmental results. Work consists of making basic adjustments to systems and processes to solve problems. Problems are typically solved through drawing from prior experiences or standard procedures and basic analysis.
Essential Functions:
+ Key interface between the Engineering team and Program Management departments.
+ Prior design engineer experience.
+ Previous DoD Developmental Experience.
+ Interfacing with the other engineering disciplines (e.g., mechanical, electrical, etc.) to insure proper execution of the project.
+ Understanding importance of technical performance, cost and schedule goals on the program are met.
+ Acting as an advisor to senior management and customers on advanced technical studies and/or applications.
+ Identifying and managing program technical risks.

+ Ensuring engineering processes are followed on projects.
Qualifications:

+ Utilize multiple databases to determine Reliability, Maintainability, and Availability (RM&A) metrics and assess system readiness.
+ Integrate and analyze failure data across single systems, multi-systems, or system-of-systems environments.
+ Develop and document reliability models and failure scoring criteria for various Navy systems.
+ Conduct research and learn about Navy systems to support mission readiness.
+ Employ Navy and Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) readiness assessment tools.
+ Follow and execute the established data editing process, including data review, extraction, and loading.

In this role, you'll be responsible for conducting objective quality assessments and delivering actionable recommendations to enhance fleet readiness at both the system and platform levels. Your work will have a direct impact on improving naval capabilities and operational performance.
**Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent experience through U.S. Navy service.
+ Understanding of probability theory and its application to RM&A disciplines.
+ Knowledge of Navy organization, ship classes, and shipboard systems.
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and present findings clearly.
+ Must be a U.S. Citizen.
+ Active DoD SECRET Security Clearance preferred.
