We are seeking an experienced Engineering Technician to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and protocols to safely and accurately conduct chemical tests and material treatments. You will prepare chemical solutions and execute electrochemical processing steps, including plating, etching, and other wet chemistry techniques. This position requires an individual who can maintain a clean and organized work area, comply with health, safety, and environmental standards, and manage chemical inventories.
Responsibilities
+ Follow established SOPs, protocols, and work instructions to carry out chemical tests and material treatments safely and accurately.
+ Prepare chemical solutions and perform surface preparation using solvents, acids, bases, and other reagents.
+ Execute electrochemical processing steps such as plating, etching, and other wet chemistry techniques.
+ Collect experimental data, prepare reports, and communicate results to team members.
+ Maintain organization and cleanliness in the work area while ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
+ Safely handle, store, and dispose of hazardous chemicals and waste streams in accordance with company regulatory requirements.
+ Track and maintain inventory of chemicals and consumables.
+ Train and mentor team members in safe chemical handling, equipment operation, and production procedures.
+ Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives targeting process control, safety, efficiency, and production quality.
Essential Skills
+ Proven experience in a production environment with a strong foundation in chemistry principles and chemical safety.
+ Skilled in wet chemical processing, surface preparation, plating, etching, and material analysis.
+ Proficiency with standard measuring instruments used in chemical processes and metrology tools.
+ Ability to execute chemical processes from written SOPs and work instructions with accuracy and consistency.
+ Strong organizational skills with precise data recording and reporting abilities.
+ Familiarity with data analysis and reporting tools such as Excel, Google Sheets, and JMP.
+ Effective communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional teams.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.

Our summer intern program is tailored to individuals who are currently enrolled full-time students at an accredited four-year college or university. The internships run from May to August - dependent on the school calendar. The ERC EARTH is a multi-institution, multi-disciplinary team focused on creating a sustainable and circular refrigerant economy ( ). Successful candidates will have research experience that align with the Departments and ERC EARTHs strengths, which includes: expertise in gas separations using novel entrainers, porous materials, or membranes that could be applied to hydrofluorocarbons/refrigerant gas mixtures; new dehumidification technologies or materials; advanced power cycles; chemical security markers for gases and compressed liquids; sensors for refrigerant gas detection; and hydrofluorocarbon conversion technology.
Candidates accepted for the position will have a strong record of scholarly publications and the ability in securing external research funding sufficient to support and maintain an independent research program. **POSITION PURPOSE**
This temporary position provides assistance to the Section Engineers and Compliance Program Supervisor with troubleshooting process conditions; reviewing quality assurance/quality control requirements; and monitoring process conditions to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal specifications and regulations.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES**
+ Assist with verifying that Piping & Instrument Diagrams (P&ID's) are complete and accurate.
+ Assist Section Engineers by taking field readings and measurements for data collection to make design changes or monitor process operations.
+ Utilize software applications to verify designs or develop new designs.
+ Perform technical investigations for equipment such as control valves, instruments, heat exchangers, pressure relief devices, and pumps with direction from the Section Engineers and Compliance Program Supervisor.

**PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS**
This position requires constant hand coordination; frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing; occasional lifting/carrying up to 30 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 10 pounds, hand grip up to 35 pounds, pinch grip, bending and reaching. Requires finger dexterity, good vision, hearing, the ability to perform close work, and be able to communicate and clearly exchange accurate information. The incumbent will occasionally be required to work at heights up to 250 feet and in high climbing areas on grating, ladders, scaffolding, man baskets and other areas, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards. This position is continuously exposed to noise; frequently exposed to dirt, dust, fumes, chemicals, and extreme heat and cold; and occasionally exposed to vibration, poor ventilation, and confined areas such as inside vessels, heaters, tanks, and trenches.
