Our client, a prominent operator of sports and entertainment venues, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Operations to oversee the day-to-day management of their flagship facility in Detroit. This pivotal role demands a leader with a comprehensive understanding of venue management, event logistics, staff supervision, and operational efficiency. You will be responsible for ensuring that every event, from major sporting championships to large-scale concerts, runs seamlessly and provides an exceptional experience for attendees and performers alike. This position requires a strategic mindset, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to manage multiple complex functions simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, Sports Management, or a related field. A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in venue operations management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within a large-scale sports or entertainment venue, is required. Demonstrated experience in managing complex events and large teams is essential. Strong financial acumen, including budgeting and P&L management, is critical. Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills are paramount. Experience with venue management software and a strong understanding of event logistics and safety standards are necessary. This role is based in Detroit, Michigan, US and requires a commitment to delivering world-class operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all operational aspects of the venue, including event setup, security, crowd management, maintenance, and F&B operations.
- Develop and manage annual operating budgets, ensuring cost control and revenue optimization.
- Lead, train, and motivate a diverse team of operational staff, including supervisors, technicians, and guest services personnel.
- Collaborate with event promoters, artists, sports leagues, and other clients to ensure their operational needs are met.
- Develop and implement comprehensive safety and security protocols to ensure the well-being of all guests and staff.
- Manage relationships with vendors and contractors, negotiating contracts and ensuring service level agreements are met.
- Oversee preventative maintenance programs for all venue equipment and facilities.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including health and safety codes.
- Develop and execute emergency response plans.
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve operational efficiency and enhance the guest experience.
- Act as a primary point of contact for facility operations during events.
