**Summary of Job Description:**
The Math & Science Tutor is responsible for developing and providing academic assistance and tutoring in Math and Science course (e.g., Algebra, Statistics, Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology) as well as educational outreach materials and programs for students and faculty. This position requires a working knowledge of computer skills including, but not limited to internet, email, Microsoft Office, and online audio and video interactions. The Math & Science Tutor must also possess effective communication and organization skills.
Facilitates learning as a guide and coach to assist students to become independent learners.
Integrates effective study and learning strategies into tutoring sessions to maximize students' potential for academic success.
Collaborates with Math & Science faculty and Director of Retention to identify students at-risk and develop retention strategy for students.
Submits reports summarizing data of tutoring services and analysis to Director of Student Success Center and faculty upon request.
Does research for the SSC as needed and as other duties allow
Creates learning materials and tutorials for students
Promotes and advertises tutoring services
Works with PA students and faculty for tutoring services
Maintains knowledge on educational literature and with the tutoring professional society NCLCA
Creates presentations for PA programs, TEAS and potentially others

  • Must be able to safely and effectively perform all primary job responsibilities in a physically demanding environment
  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver materials weighing up to 75 lbs, including repetitive handling and team lifts for heavier items
  • Comfortable working in elevated and confined spaces such as roofs, chases, attics, crawl spaces, ducts, and above ceilings
  • Capable of climbing ladders, scaffolding, and operating high-lift equipment up to 40 feet
  • Regular use of safety equipment including ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and harnesses (when required) to access elevated work areas
  • Skilled in handling and installing a variety of materials including manufactured fireplaces, wood and cast mantels, natural stone surrounds, metal venting, sheet metal, and gas lines
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools, battery-powered tools, and AC-powered tools in both indoor and outdoor environments
