POSITION SUMMARY:

The Position:
We are seeking a full-time bilingual Employment Specialist to join our team. This position reports to the Adult Services Manager at Balboa Outpatient Treatment Services and the Senior Clinical Director. The Employment Specialist helps clients secure and maintain employment aligned with their vocational goals. This involves collaborating with therapists, assessing client needs, researching resources, connecting clients to job opportunities, and facilitating access to educational and employment services. Additional duties include providing referrals, encouraging pro-social activities, assisting with job applications, leading/co-leading groups, monitoring academic/vocational progress, and coordinating with agencies like DOR, Probation, and GAIN.
What Youll Do
- Conduct initial needs assessments with CalWORKs and TAY clients.
- Build trusting relationships to assist clients in securing competitive employment.
- Provide guidance on how employment affects financial benefits and refer to counseling as needed.
- Assess vocational functioning and discuss disclosure preferences with clients.
- Conduct job development and searches, aligning with CalWORKs Mental Health Program guidelines.
- Make at least six employer contacts weekly to learn business needs and promote client strengths.
- Provide ongoing follow-along support to help clients maintain employment and adjust job support plans.
- Educate and support employers on job accommodations and follow-up care, with client consent.
- Offer outreach services to re-engage clients when necessary and provide timely interventions.
- Participate in team meetings, collaborate with clinicians, and maintain accurate records of services provided.
- This position is fully onsite.
- Starting Salary: $21.96 - $26.44 per hour, commensurate on experience.

What You Bring To SBHG (Qualifications):
- Bachelor's Degree in an education, behavioral or mental health related field.
- 2 years in an employment assistance capacity.
- 1 year experience in mental health or related field.
- Work experience should include performing a combination of two (2) or more of the following functions related to vocational counseling: job development, job coaching, hiring, or recruiting; or direct service experience with disabled or disadvantaged populations (such as mentally ill, substance use disorder, or co-occurring disorders) to achieve training, education, and employment goals. OR A total of 6 years or more combined work experience as described above may substitute for a bachelor's degree.

How You Will Make A Difference:
The Employment Specialist works with transition age youth to foster optimal performance in employment settings using the Individual Placement Support model. The Employment Specialist is an integral part of the TAY treatment team.
Division/Program Overview:
- Outpatient, community-based program that serves youth age 18-25 with serious and persistent mental health issues
- Program provides intensive case management, outreach and engagement, medication support, as well as, mental health counseling, peer groups, and supportive services to assist TAY transition to adult life.

GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the administrative supervision of the Team Leader or Program Director, this position is responsible for providing psychosocial, rehabilitation and recovery-oriented services for adults. This position specifically is responsible for supporting participants and binding, obtaining and maintaining employment. In the absence of the Team Leader, provides guidance and direction for clients as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is an at-will direct service position within a program. This position is responsible for assisting and advocating for our clients in meeting their expressed goals while living in the community. Additional support in areas of medication management, housing, counseling and advocacy will be provided as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)

- Engages members and establishes trusting, collaborative relationships directed toward the goal of competitive employment in community job settings with other workers who do not necessarily have disabilities.
- Assists members in obtaining information about their benefits (e.g., SSI, Medicaid, etc.) Refers members to benefits counseling, as needed. Helps members report earnings, as needed.
- Assesses member's vocational functioning on ongoing basis utilizing background information and work experiences. With the member's permission, provides education and support to family members. Discusses member's preference for disclosure of psychiatric status to employers.
- Conducts a minimum of six employer contacts per week to learn business needs and be able to describe member's strengths relevant to the position.
- Provides individualized follow-along supports to assist members in maintaining employment. Writes job support plans with members, incorporating input from the mental health team. Adjusts plan according to member needs and preferences.
- Provides education and support to employers as agreed upon by members, which may include job development and job search activities, negotiating job accommodations and follow-along contact by the employment specialist with the employer.
- Participates in weekly meetings with the treatment team and communicates individually with team members between meetings in order to coordinate and integrate vocational services into mental health treatment.
- Attends County Employment Collaborative meetings and brings information gathered back to the team.
- Provides prompt intervention in the event of a crisis by notifying leadership and engaging first responders where indicated.
- Completes necessary paperwork to maintain record keeping for all necessary tracking of services provided to members and guests, and other program outcome information.
- Provides effective and accurate information in briefing peers and colleagues.
Compensation: $24.00 - $25.47 per hour

Position Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES
Education, Training and Experience:
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is through graduation from a four (4) year college or university with Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or related field and four years varied experience as a provider of mental health services or Associate Arts Degree and six years of full time/equivalent (FTE) direct care experience in a behavioral health setting. At least two of the six years must be post AA experience.

- California driver's license & current vehicle insurance/registration
- Reliable means of transportation capable of passing vehicle safety inspection if more than five years old excluding all modes of two-wheeled transport inclusive of bicycles, mopeds and motorcycles.
