Overview:
The Certified Optometric Assistant helps in preparing the patient to see the ophthalmologist. Responsible for taking ocular, medical, and family history, chief complaint, completes visual acuity, refraction, OCT, visual fields and other testing as necessary. Use knowledge of contact lenses to assist patients in ordering contacts teaching patients how to insert and remove contacts. Proficient with EHR to document pre-test findings, telephone calls, and patient messages. Assist with general office duties such as answering the phone, scheduling appointments, greeting customers, pulling authorizations and filing insurance.
Some travel to other offices to cover staffing needs may be necessary. Strong patient service skills and math skills necessary.
Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Reports to manager in eye care clinic. Coordinates with other coworkers and doctors to ensure superior continuity of care for patients.
Qualifications:

- Preferred to have 1-2 years of optical, optometry, or ophthalmology experience.
