We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team at the John R Marsh Cancer Center. In this vital role, you will provide expert nursing care to patients undergoing cancer treatment, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation, and supportive care services. You will play an essential part in delivering safe, evidence-based care while offering the empathy and emotional support our patients and their families need during a challenging time.

Key Responsibilities

* Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for oncology patients in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team.


* Administer chemotherapy, targeted therapies, and other cancer-related treatments in compliance with safety standards and protocols.


* Monitor patients for treatment responses and side effects, intervening promptly when necessary.


* Educate patients and their families about disease processes, treatment plans, side effect management, and available resources.


* Serve as a patient advocate, coordinating care with physicians, social workers, nutritionists, and other team members.


* Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).


* Uphold infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory compliance standards in all aspects of care.



Minimum Qualifications:

Education - ASN required. BSN Preferred.

Experience - Minimum of one year of experience in a hospital setting required.

Licensure/Certification - Specialty certification recognized by the Magnet Recognition Program preferred. Current license to practice as Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland, or if resident of a state that participates in Nurse Multi-State Compact agreement, holds Registered Nurse License from that state that is designated as "Compact" or "Multi-State Privilege" using primary source verification and provides additional documentation as required by the Maryland Board of Nursing. RN License from a compact state with a designation of "Single State" does not meet the requirement and nurse must obtain a Maryland license. Specialty certification preferred. See attached addendum for unit specific requirements and professional ladder application ladder application information.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Ability to apply the standards of professional nursing practice with compassion and empathy. Basic computer skills required. Must pocess high level of organization and communication skills.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs dialysis equipment, ancillary equipment, and water treatment systems.

  • Maintains the physical plant, as directed.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Work Environment: Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, Africa is located in a harsh environmental setting with adverse weather conditions for many months of the year (excessive heat, humidity, and rain) and working in areas populated by poisonous snakes, plants, and/or insects, and contagious diseases and poor air quality, chemical handling areas, and damp and unheated spaces. The work may require extensive work shifts of 12-16 hours a day and more than a 5 day workweek. Generally, indoor work location has power, water, heating and air conditioning, although outages should be expected. The incumbent will be required to live on the camp, where living quarters are a container living unit (CLU), which may be very cramped with the requirement to share bathroom facilities. Initial living quarters may be a tent. Fatigue may occur from long work hours and uncomfortable living conditions.

The position may be required to provide immediate contingency support requiring a physical and immunizations deemed necessary for the environment in which this support is provided.

Incumbent is entitled to 25% Post Differential pay.

11. Ensures the facilities and equipment for department services is maintained to promote comfort, efficiency and safety for patients and staff.

12. Provides clinical services consistent with licensure when necessary to ensure unit/department is operating efficiently and effectively.

13. Communicates and interacts with patients, families, visitors, physicians, departmental and hospital staff and the public in general in a manner that demonstrates professionalism and concern for the individuals' need(s).

14. Remains current and responsive to changes in healthcare delivery, standards established by professional organizations, regulatory and accrediting bodies and the needs of the organization.
