Internship Description

The Recovery Support Specialist Intern reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Recovery Support Specialist Intern uses personal and training experience to create a safe space for consumers to calmly process crisis events, learn and apply wellness strategies, and prevent future crisis events. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the recovery support specialist intern operates from the Crisis Now concept and focuses on practices including recovery orientation, trauma-informed care, and a philosophy that crises are an opportunity for learning. The recovery support specialist intern understands that peer support is voluntary, and comes from a place of non-judgment and empathy when providing services to living room guests. All services are offered within an inviting, home-like, atmosphere and are designed to proactively divert crises and break the cycle of psychiatric hospitalizations.

Responsibilities:
  • Recognize that recovery support is voluntary for the guest .
  • Acts within ethical standards and demonstrates healthy boundaries .
  • Utilize personal recovery experiences to provide peer support for guests.
  • Serves as a role model for persons in recovery by modeling effective coping techniques, self-help strategies and self-care.
  • Assists guests with identifying strengths, recovery and wellness goals and barriers, as well as with determining recovery and wellness interventions based on guests own life goals.
  • Inform guests about community and natural supports and how to utilize such in the recovery process.
  • Provide on-site Living Room support and introduction to services at NM KCH and VW to patients within the hospital setting (e.g. Emergency Department, Medical Floors, etc.).
  • Build relationships with local police, fire, emergency departments, and other organizations to promote awareness of Living Room services.
  • Advocate within systems to promote person centered recovery support services. Work with an interdisciplinary team in reviewing cases and developing individual plans.
  • Assist guest with individual service plans through rehabilitation services such as case management, advocacy, outreach, skills training groups (e.g. WRAP), social rehabilitation, and community support as indicated.
  • Facilitate recovery-oriented groups (e.g. WRAP, NAMI Peer-to-peer, WHAM)
  • Serve as an individual advocate for guests in the community and when consulting with other center staff regarding assessment and treatment/intervention planning.
  • Provide recovery information and activities to all guests; information, resources and connection to natural supports; and must follow principles of trauma informed care.
  • Provide support for guest's needs, strengths, goals, and resources.
  • Transport guests to and from home to appointments
  • Provide support in treatment planning and discharge planning.
  • Utilize QMHP/LPHA when guest presents with acute crisis for appropriate triage/screening and treatment as indicated.
  • Consult with other service agencies around case-specific and programmatic issues.
  • Link guests to other human service programs as indicated.
  • Serve as a liaison to other community agencies as needed.
  • Train other providers and non-providers in areas related to service specialties.
  • Document service provision as required by NM Ben Gordon Center.

Qualifications

Required:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Recovery Support Specialists should be able to articulate their personal experience in recovery when working with patients who are experiencing mental health and/or drug/alcohol issues as it relates to providing peer support services to these patient populations.
Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in behavioral health related field
  • One year experience working with individuals suffering from severe mental illness and/or drug and alcohol issues.
  • Experience with Medicaid Rule 132/140
  • Knowledge and understanding of SUPR 2060
  • Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS)
  • Wellness Recovery Action Planning classes (WRAP)

Our focus is delivering quality, culturally responsive health care services to our patients, caregivers, and partners in the communities we serve

The Integrated Behavioral Health Clinician (LICSW, LCSW) is embedded within the primary care teams and works directly with the teams to assess individuals with behavioral health and/or substance use issues and to provide brief treatment services within the primary care setting. The IBH Clinician will expand the teams’ abilities to treat persons with chronic medical conditions that are complicated by lifestyle factors. 

Description of Primary Responsibilities

1. Maintains an active presence on primary care clinical teams. Participates in daily medical team hurdles, medical staff meetings, multidisciplinary teams, and individual supervision sessions with coordinator/director. 

2. Consults with primary care providers in real time to assist patients with psychosocial issues. This is frequently done as a “warm hand off” during hours of clinical operation. Informal consultations and referrals from the primary care providers happen at other times as well.

3. Assists the primary care provider in recognizing, treating, and managing mental health and psychosocial issues and acts as a contributing member to the primary care team.

4. Provides an 80/20 split of warm-handoffs and scheduled direct therapy services. Responsible for triaging-- to the lowest level of care to support the patient's mental health needs and providing timely communication to the interdisciplinary care team. 

5. Provides brief treatment interventions for behavioral health concerns, as well as crisis intervention. 

6. Demonstrates competence in brief assessment, crisis management, triage, diagnosis, as well as mental health/substance abuse treatment within a brief solution-focused model. 

7. Conducts patient intakes both for Behavioral Health Services as well as Medication Assisted Treatment, focusing on diagnostic and functional evaluations and makes recommendations to the primary care provider concerning the patients’ treatment goals and plan. 

8. Provides consultation and training to primary care providers to enhance their skill and effectiveness in the treatment of mental health problems.

9. (AB1) Develops, where indicated, relapse prevention plans and helps patients maintain stable functioning.

10. Assists in the detection of “at risk” patients and in the development of plans to prevent worsening of their condition.

11. Documents in the patients’ electronic health record in a complete and timely manner. All progress will be fully completed and signed within 48 hours of the encounter. 

12. Keeps the primary care providers fully informed of the patient’s needs and progress and works with the providers to formulate treatment plans.

13. Works, where indicated, to effect behavioral changes in patients with, or at risk for, physical disorders and helps them to understand healthier lifestyle choices.

14. Provides patients with self-management skills and educational information needed so they can be full participants in their own treatment and recovery.

15. Helps the patients, where indicated, to cope with chronic conditions like pain and diabetes.

16. Demonstrates customer-centered approach to treatment, as measured by respectful interactions with patients and their families, high patient satisfaction, and lack of patient complaints.

17. Places high value on the treatment team, as measured by willingness to meet regularly, work collaboratively, and demonstrate flexibility when consulting with medical providers in the consultation and treatment of new patients, whether they are scheduled or referred as “warm hand-offs” or unscheduled emergencies. 

18. Demonstrates a thorough understanding of DSM V, as measured by thoroughness and accuracy of diagnostic formulations brought for review to the multidisciplinary team.

19. Shows the ability to obtain complete history and full conceptualization of the patient’s problem within the time limited session(s), as measured by the quality of the written assessment and the timely case presentation to the interdisciplinary team.

20. Adapts therapeutic strategies to individual characteristics of the patient, including but not limited to, disability, gender, sexual orientation, developmental level, culture, ethnicity, age, health status as measured by return visits and patient satisfaction. 

21. Participate in meetings, trainings, and supervision required by Agency and other trainings necessary for the maintenance of professional licensure and or/supervisory requests for growth and improvement.

Rush PT is currently seeking a part-time Injury Prevention Specialist/ATC for an industrial setting. This is for on-site Injury Prevention Specialist position at the **iherb** warehouse in Elgin, IL. This is a great opportunity for a certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), EMT, PTA, COTA or individual of similar background.

**Responsibilities**
+ OnSite coverage for industrial customer under the direction of Account/Program Manager
+ Early Symptom Intervention with providing first aid services
+ Design and implement injury prevention strategies for the industrial setting, such as individual and group conditioning, functional assessments and behavioral modification
+ Health and wellness consultation and presentations
**Qualifications**
+ **Minimum Qualifications:**
+ BS Degree in exercise science/kinesiology/exercise physiology REQUIRED
+ Preferred one year experience, industrial setting experience a plus
+ Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
+ Excellent written and oral communication skills
+ Position requires a strong knowledge of musculoskeletal injury assessment and prevention interventions **Physical Requirements:**
+ Ability to lift patients using appropriate biomechanical techniques frequently throughout the course of a work day/shift; must be capable of easily lifting fifty (50) pounds dead weight alone.
+ Ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly during a work day/shift.
+ Visual acuity (near and distant) sufficient to evaluate, diagnose and monitor patient needs and to maintain accurate records, recognize people and provide directions.
+ Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand and give directions.
+ Ability to push wheeled equipment through the facility and in the community.
+ Possess fine motor skills for legible and accurate writing of reports, charting, scheduling, daily correspondence and presentations, either manually or through use of dictation equipment.
+ Possess fine motor skills for effective and efficient handling of diagnostic or therapeutic equipment.
