Alameda Health System (AHS) is seeking Full-Time and Services-As-Needed Emergency Medicine Physicians to staff San Leandro and Alameda Hospitals in the Division of Community Emergency Medicine.
AHS is an integrated public health system spanning 5 facilities, 4 ambulatory sites and 800 beds providing primary, specialty, Stroke, STEMI, and Level 1 Trauma in addition to supporting several residency programs. Our safety net system is dedicated to serving our surrounding communities with safe, equitable, and high-quality care guided by the AHS mission of Caring, Healing, Teaching, Serving All.
The Division of Community Medicine team works with nurses, specialists, and support staff to provide excellent care to the East Bay's highly diverse patient community. The Division of Community Emergency Medicine is part of the Highland Hospital-based Department of Emergency Medicine.

Job Summary
Emergency Medicine physicians are responsible for providing expert, safe, efficient, patient-centered, and cost-effective care within the Emergency Department and responding to in-house emergencies at the Hospital. Their role includes triaging, taking patient histories and physical examinations, interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests, correlating subjective and objective data, diagnosing, and writing orders for all patients who present to the Department. This position reports directly to the Medical Directors and Division Chief of Community Emergency Medicine, under the overall leadership of the Chair of the Emergency Medicine Department.
Job Responsibilities:
Provide medical services to all patients assigned to the ED physician.

Consult with medical staff members about issues concerning appropriate medical services for such patients.

Consult and cooperate with the clinical departments to facilitate patient care.

Refer patients for specialty care when medically necessary.

Use currently accepted methods and practices of medicine, adhere to applicable standards of care, medical ethics, policies and protocols, and timely documentation in the Electronic Health Record.

On a case-by-case basis, take all necessary actions to ensure the appropriate transfer of patients to or from medical facilities to access to skilled medical care.

Promote and maintain positive working relationships between medical staff and employees.

Help the hospital achieve goals related to patient, employee, and physician satisfaction in connection with the delivery of services.

Work with the quality manager to improve clinical outcomes, the quality of patient care and the efficient use of physician and hospital resources.

Provide appropriate medical assessment, treatment and timely discharge of patients admitted for observation.

Work with hospital operations and nursing to implement new procedures, controls, and systems to promote quality, cost control, reimbursement functions, and standardization of products and equipment.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $8,500 to 137,000.

Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.

Reporting to the Director of Accounting, this is an exciting opportunity to lead complex accounting functions that support essential healthcare programswhile growing professionally and making a meaningful impact in a mission-driven environment.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and support timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
- Maintain general ledger integrity and ensure compliance with GAAP and organizational policies.
- Manage accounting for federal, state, and local government grants, ensuring compliance with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200).
- Monitor and track restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring proper allocation and usage in accordance with donor intent and grantor requirements.
- Prepare financial reports and invoicing for grantors and external agencies.
- Serve as a key contact during annual audits, preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Ensure internal controls are followed and assist in identifying opportunities for process improvement and risk mitigation.
- Oversee and provide guidance on AP/AR transactions, vendor management, cash applications, and aging analysis.
- Collaborate with finance and operations teams to streamline billing, collections, and disbursements.
- Mentor junior accounting staff and support cross-functional teams with financial insights and support.
- Actively contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
- Minimum 57 years of progressive GL accounting experience
- Nonprofit healthcare or large nonprofit industry required.
- Strong experience in grant accounting (especially City, County, federal/state grants), fund accounting, and audit preparation.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Blackbaud, NetSuite, Oracle, or similar ERP).
- Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with data analysis and reporting tools.
- Solid understanding of GAAP, FASB standards, and Uniform Guidance.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
