Job Essentials

  • Participates in procedure room preparation and post procedure turn around.

  • Makes hemodynamic recordings, calculations, and interpretations.

  • Provides patient education and ensures patient comfort.

  • Assesses the condition of the patient, documents it, and informs the physician of deviations from normal criteria throughout the procedure.

  • Develops knowledge specific to cardiopulmonary pathophysiology, pharmacology, anatomic anomalies, and treatment options.

  • Understands and applies principles of x-ray generation and safety.

  • Understands and demonstrates the correct operation of imaging equipment.

  • Provides procedural assistance as a circulating tech, scrub tech, or monitoring tech, according to cath lab policies and procedures and Scope of Practice documents.

  • May mix and administer some medications under the direction and supervision of the physician.

  • At the end of the procedure, may apply closure device, suture the sheath in place, or remove the sheath and apply pressure to obtain hemostasis.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support Certificaiton (BLS) for healthcare providers.

  • ACLS or PALS certification.

  • Bachelor's degree in health science with six months of health care experience (e.g., Cath Lab, EP, EMT, Paramedic, CNA, Surgical tech) -OR- Graduate of a Radiologic Technology, Cardiovascular Technology, Respiratory Therapy, or Nursing program -OR- Graduate of a diploma or associate program in health science with one year of health care experience (e.g., Cath Lab, EP, EMT, Paramedic, CNA, Surgical tech) -OR- Graduate of a non-programmatically accredited program in invasive cardiovascular technology which has a minimum of one year of specialty training and includes a minimum of 800 clinical hours. Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.

  • Intermediate computer skills.

  • Current license, where applicable, Registered Respiratory Therapist program, 2 years of CV Invasive Training experience, RN degree.

Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist - Electrophysiology Lab (EP Lab)

Location: Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC

Department: Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) Lab

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:45 AM – 5:15 PM - Four days a week (No weekends, no holidays, no on-call)

Procedural Volume: Approximately 12–13 cases daily

Patient Interaction: Direct involvement in patient care

The Electrophysiology (EP) Lab is integral to Novant Health's comprehensive cardiac care program, specializing in diagnosing and treating complex arrhythmias and other heart disorders. Novant Health is seeking a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist or CVT) to provide care to patients undergoing cardiac and vascular procedures. Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist will collaborate with physicians and other team members to assess, implement and evaluate patient care in accordance with current policies and procedures. Qualifications:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • Graduate from one of the following Accredited Education Programs required: Registered Nurse (RN) OR Registered Radiology Technology (RTR) OR Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) OR Registered Cardiac Invasive Specialist (RCIS) OR Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) OR Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (EMT-P) OR Cardiovascular Tech (CVT) OR Vascular Intervention (VI), required.
  • Experience:
    • RN with one (1) year of Critical Care, Emergency Services, Cath/EP Lab, or Special Procedures experience. OR acute care hospital experience EMT-P with two (2) years of experience; required.
    • RTR, RRT, RCIS, RCES, CVT or VI with one (1) year of experience; preferred.
  • Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN)-North Carolina Board of Nursing License Registered Radiology Technologist (RTR) -ARRT Radiology OR Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) credentialing/accreditation and/or Paramedic associate degree from an appropriately recognized Paramedic program. Or Technologist Registry OR Respiratory Therapist-licensed by the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board (NCRCB) AND Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) as RRT.
