Loading Crew Member to help pick and load our delivery routes- making sure our customers get their beer, seltzer, cider, and other beverages on time and in perfect condition.

What You'll Do:

  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment safely and efficiently
  • Use handheld scanners and order sheets to accurately pick and stage products
  • Build and wrap pallets to match route needs and loading specs
  • Load delivery trucks and prep routes for the next day
  • Pitch in on general warehouse organization and cleanliness
  • Lift and move a high volume of product (2045 lbs per case)
  • Work a regular schedule of Monday-Thursday. Shift times are 2:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. or 3:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. depending on the day. Mondays and Thursdays are 2:00 p.m. start time and Tuesdays and Wednesdays are 3:00 p.m. start time.10-hour workdays plus a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. Some overtime may be required in the event that trucks are not completely loaded by the normal work end time. Workdays may change surrounding holiday weeks.

Loading Crew Member

Classification

Reports to
Warehouse Manager


Responsibilities & Essential Functions


  1. Operates a variety of warehouse equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.

  2. Works with mobile handheld units, scanners, and order sheets to pick and build loads with pallet jacks or forklifts.

  3. Wraps pallets when pallet is finished.

  4. Assists in other warehouse activities as required such as assisting in stocking, shelving, and storing warehouse shipments.

  5. Loads route trucks and stages next day routes.

  6. Helps maintain warehouse cleanliness.



Required Skills & Abilities

  1. Skilled in the safe and efficient use of warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
  2. Able to use handheld scanners, mobile devices, and printed order sheets to accurately select and track product.
  3. Proficient in building, wrapping, and staging pallets according to route requirements and load specifications.
  4. Willing and able to assist with general warehouse functions including stocking, shelving, and organizing product shipments.
  5. Capable of lifting and moving a high volume of product cases ranging from 20 to 45 pounds repeatedly over extended periods.
  6. Demonstrates strict accuracy when picking, labeling, and preparing product to ensure correct orders and minimal errors.
  7. Manages time effectively in a fast-paced environment to meet shipping and staging deadlines.
  8. Maintains regular, consistent, and punctual attendance as essential to warehouse operations.
  9. Adheres to safety protocols and contributes to maintaining a clean and hazard-free work environment.

Education & Experience


  1. Must be 18 years of age or older.
  2. Experience in manual labor preferred.



Work Environment
This position works in a warehouse setting, with some outdoor exposure during the workday. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, and standard warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, box cutters and tape dispensers.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work


Regular workdays are Mondays-Thursdays. Shift times are 2:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. or 3:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. depending on the day. Mondays and Thursdays are 2:00 p.m. start time and Tuesdays and Wednesdays are 3:00 p.m. start time.

**Brief Description of Duties:**
Campus Residences, at Stony Brook University, is seeking a Supervisor of Warehouse Operations to oversee all aspects of Warehouse operations. The Supervisor of Warehouse Operations reports to the Associate Director of Safety and Support Services. The incumbent is accountable for the administrative management and coordination of activities related to the overall operations and services of the Campus Residences Warehouse. This position assists with the supervision of 5 full-time state classified and 20 temporary student employees. Work involves occasional exposure to elements like inclement weather and extreme temperatures. Incumbent must be able to adapt easily to changes in operational procedures and/or technology. Incumbent must be detail-oriented and highly organized with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
**Warehouse and Customer Service**
+ Managing Campus Residences Warehouse operations, including the purchasing, receipt, distribution, and maintenance of all residential and office furniture.
+ Serving over 10,000 residential students, anticipate seasonal peak and valley of residential work order requests per week. Ensuring that complaints, requests for repairs, and concerns are handled in an expeditious manner.
+ Ensuring and maintaining compliance to Campus Residences' policies and procedures and respective resolution of issues/complaints/concerns regarding University-provided Residence Hall and public lounge furniture.
+ Ensuring that each Residence Hall room/suite/apartment is adequately stocked and furnished per University standards prior to the start of each semester, and properly maintained throughout the term.
+ Ensuring that the Warehouse Maintenance Assistant and Student Assistant Work Crew teams are properly staffed for daily operation and that all personnel are properly trained.
+ Directing activity at the loading bay/receiving area for incoming and outgoing deliveries, which include Residential Mailroom shipments requiring a working partnership with the Coordinator of Residential Mail Services.
+ Maintaining knowledge of safety regulations pertaining to the operation of material handling equipment, such as a forklift and electric pallet jack.
+ Delegate and oversee the routine inspections and repairs/replacements of Residence Hall appliances and furniture, including couches/loveseats, bed/bed frames, microwave ovens, micro-fridges, ranges, refrigerators, electrical systems, including testing outlets for proper voltage, grounding, and polarity to ensure compliance with safety standards, utilizing electrical testing equipment to identify and troubleshoot faulty outlets, including GFCI functionality.
+ Oversee the routine maintenance of laundry equipment and installation of new equipment.
+ Oversee the repair and maintenance of all residential appliances in apartment kitchens, and building common kitchens.
+ Assist with the supervision, recruiting, hiring, training, and retaining of full-time support and part-time student staff.
+ Managing inter-office, inter-agency, and community mail route schedules, including Residential Mailroom parcel transport to each residential mailroom location on the East and West campus, as well as transfers of parcels between mailroom locations.
+ Cross-trained to serve as backup customer service in the Residential Mailroom. Maintain working knowledge to properly verify and issue packages from the mailrooms.Assist with the management of parcel locker repairs, as needed.
+ Providing support and guidance on all furniture-related inquiries between students/staff.
+ Acting as the main point of contact and providing leadership to all Warehouse Maintenance Assistants.
+ Establishing a consistent Residence Hall experience, ensuring each resident has the proper standard of furnishings no matter where they live on campus.
+ Work alongside Central Receiving on all shipment-related challenges.
+ Assist in Coordinating and implementing functions with outside vendors, contractors, and staff to ensure compliance with contracts and work quality as needed for Campus Residences' property control functions.
+ Assist with ensuring the proper handling and distribution of residential mail received on campus in accordance with Federal law.
**Administration**
+ Performing daily, weekly, monthly, and annual inventory audits, accounting for Warehouse equipment and supplies. Accurately and securely maintain the physical inventory of Campus Residences' equipment, furniture, and supplies in accordance with applicable guidelines.
+ Assisting with the purchasing of all Residence Hall and Campus Residence Office furnishings, as well as Warehouse supplies and equipment, and the reconciliation of financial reports for Warehouse purchasing budget(s).
+ Promptly addressing performance issues with appropriate measures and discretion. Identify areas needing corrective action and formulate steps for improvement.
+ Managing staff scheduling for all locations.
+ Managing and ensuring accurate collection of data related to parcels and processes for the Warehouse operation.
+ Processing supply requisitions for areas in compliance with divisional guidelines.
+ Following up with the Campus Operations/Residential Operations, Division of Information Technology, and other campus partners to ensure that work requests are completed in a timely fashion.
+ Managing the fleet of departmental vehicles; maintaining service records and scheduling service with Campus Automotive Services whenever necessary.
**Professional Development and Committee Involvement**
+ Participate in opportunities that promote their learning, growth, and development (i.e., classes, training, committees, webinars).
+ Contribute to the Division of Student Affairs and Stony Brook University by attending and/or supporting events, activities, and programs sponsored by areas outside of your department (e.g., campus-wide traditions, events, programs, etc.).
+ Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
+ Evening and weekend work will be required at times.
**Special Notes:**
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Material Handler coordinates and expedites the sourcing, purchasing, and flow/delivery of parts and materials required to manage and operate a Contractor Operated Parts Store (COPARS). Examples of items to be sourced and purchased consist of assemblies, vehicle and equipment parts, supplies, tires, and batteries.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as the primary contact for commercial customers, ensure efficient delivery of products (parts-handling), and complete appropriate documentation for record-keeping and compliance (quality according to contract).
  • Maintain records and billing for commercial accounts; processes returns and reconciles accounts.
  • Procure, inspect, store, maintain, and issue new and remanufactured or rebuilt parts and materials commercially available in a typical automotive parts store and as coordinated by mechanics.
  • Provide customer services associated with the provision of a full-service, walk-in and walk-out commercial retail operation, including a TRDI -owned and managed inventory operating out of the COPARS facility.
  • Ensure parts, materials and services are made available to authorized Motor Transportation mechanic personnel.
  • Schedule and confer with mechanic's supervisors to determine parts or materials required or overdue; locate materials from sources selected by the Parts Specialist.
  • Establish delivery sequences for the mechanics according to job order priorities and anticipate availability of parts and materials.
  • Arrange for in-house transfer of parts or materials to meet mechanics' schedules.
  • Monitor and control movement of material and parts from the moment they are ordered to the time they are delivered to the Marine Corps Base

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • 3+ years of advanced knowledge of automotive parts is required; ASE Certified preferred.
  • 2+ years of knowledge and experience that is found in a commercial auto and equipment parts providers.
  • 2+ years of using remote-control panel board, compute amount of material needed for specific job orders, applying knowledge of parts and mechanical processes and using computer and software designed to keep track of point of sales, inventory, parts requested and parts ordered and delivered and installed on specific vehicles or equipment.
  • Be Customer service oriented, demonstrate high level of integrity; and excellent communication skills.

EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma/GED required.

• An understanding of the needs of the organization serviced.

• Experience performing inventory, shipping/receiving and other duties related to supply procedures.

• Ability to organize effectively, delegate responsibility, solve problems quickly and communicate clearly.
