Summary:

Metal Sales is the nation's largest manufacturer of metal roofing and building systems with 21 locations across America. Our Deer Lake, PA location has openings on our production team for Production Workers operating Mill and/or Trim Equipment.

This is a permanent full-time position with a comprehensive benefits package and competitive pay!

Regular hours for this position are Monday thru Friday 6:00 am – 2:00 pm. Overtime, including working on weekends, may be required.

A Production Worker is one of the key members of our production team. Daily responsibilities include safely operating roll formers, coil slitters, and flat sheet shears. The finished product is quality metal roofing and wall panels.

You’ll be responsible for (but not limited to):

  • Operating a roll former to produce metal roof trim pieces
  • Checking and visually inspecting produced trims against specifications to ensure a defect free product has been produced
  • Operating single beam folder producing custom trim parts
  • Entering production quantities for each order into computer system
  • Operating a forklift for moving skids of stock trims
  • Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment and assisting in other departments as needed

The most qualified candidates will have:

  • Experience working in a manufacturing/production environment
  • Ability to operate a forklift
  • Ability to work independently and with others
  • High school diploma or GED

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Must be able to read, hear, talk, drive lift trucks, wear PPE, and lift up to 50 lbs. repetitively
  • Must be able to stand or walk approximately 7 ½ hours minimum per work shift
  • Must be able to tolerate extreme temperature changes in the winter and summer months
  • Noise level is moderate to loud

The Machine Operator is responsible for carrying out the consistent mechanical processes of their assigned machine through set up, maintenance, and operation. This machine operator will pay close attention to detail, focus on the present tasks, ensuring accuracy of the machined processed material. It is essential to ensure that quality standards are followed, and tasks and duties are carried out in a safe and efficient manner according to standard operation procedures. This position requires a level of detail orientation with a high sense of urgency to keep pace with a fast-paced production environment. Production procedures are carried out smoothly always maximizing efficiencies. Communication is essential to report production barriers to management relating to productivity, safety, quality, and output.


Major Duties And Responsibilities

General Labor Level II

  • Setting up machines to begin production, performing daily preventative maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting machine as necessary.
  • Monitoring and ensuring the constant flow of material into machine and conveyors while observing each piece of material for potential defects ensuring each defective product is removed from the production line.
  • Creating, stacking, and throwing “lead” product as necessary to generate constant flow of material for production.
  • Supporting the manufacturing and daily production goals by carrying out assigned tasks according to the standard operating procedure in a safe and efficient manner within designated area.
  • Completing daily quality documentation processes within designated area
  • Adheres to company safety policies, housekeeping requirements, and addresses concerns with management.
  • Ensure non-stop operation in partnership with various departments to deliver the correct product in sufficient quantities aligning with operating procedures.
  • Continuously observe and evaluate machine to identify problems and/or opportunities for improvement
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance
  • Other duties as assigned


Physical Demands & Working Conditions

  • Visual acuity, with or without corrective lenses, to discern product defects at an arm’s length
  • Ability to hear speech and/or alarms through noise on the production floor
  • Standing, reaching with hands and arms, and using hands and fingers to manipulate instrument or equipment controls, objects and tools
  • Movement from one work location to another
  • Standing often for extended periods of time
  • Safely lifting objects up to 50 lbs with the ability to push/pull objects up to 75 lbs.
  • Temperature within manufacturing plant may vary between 60- 100 degrees, and can occasionally exceed 100 degrees
  • Exposure to intermittent or constant sounds generated by equipment
  • Exposure to fumes, noxious odors and dust
  • Handling of toxic or caustic chemicals

Job Summary

The Packaging Machine Operator is responsible for setting up and operating assigned packaging machines and statistical weighers, in order to pack the best number of quality packages of product.

Essential Job Functions of this role include:

  • Set-up and operate multiple packaging machines to ensure accurate code dates and weights and that the correct product is put into correct bags.
  • Ensure that each bag is properly coded, dated and sealed with a minimum amount of wasted product and supplies.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the product to be packed remains clean.
  • Keeps assigned machines and area clean and safe.
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance on packaging machines, to include cleaning and changing knives/blades, pull-belts, tape machines, and rollers
  • Clean and sanitize lines during changeovers from one product to another
  • Responsible for inspection of conveyors and scales prior to line start-up and changeovers
  • Will be required to clean using chemicals and protective gear
  • May perform other duties as required
  • Overtime may be required


Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Experience operating and setting-up and/or basic repairs or trouble-shooting high-speed PLC controlled equipment, or high-speed packaging equipment or process machinery, including bagging machine operation, carton line operation, tote or bulk fill operation, packing and related duties.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English, and to follow verbal & written instruction lists, production sheets, procedure manuals , and safety rules.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide and do basic math problems
