Manages performance of staff on an ongoing basis, acknowledging accomplishments and coaching staff to improve performance with a focus on retention.
- Identifies and effectively addresses employee performance issues requiring coaching and counseling and consistently treats all employees in a fair and equitable manner, encouraging communication and problem resolution between staff and departments. Addresses ways in which staff can grow and develop through effective coaching skills supported by goal and actions plans on an ongoing basis.
- Develops and administers departmental policies and procedures and job descriptions in a fair and equitable manner. Ensures that department manuals are updated on a regular basis and that staff is informed of changes.
- Manages the design, development, procurement, and operation of equipment, processes, and systems to support the daily operations of the staff in the department(s). Demonstrates the ability to anticipate and proactively address factors that would impact day-to-day operations.

- Insures compliance in meeting the standards of accrediting bodies and regulatory agencies relative to the distribution and storage of drugs, including the completion of monthly nursing unit inspections.
- Develops and implements modifications to Pharmacy Department workflow and the scope of services provided in accordance with the needs of the institution. Develops innovative ways to meet the demands of a growing department in accordance with hospital policy and procedure.
- Coordinates all personnel and employee relations activity within the scope of the Pharmacy Department.
- Conducts all performance evaluations in a timely manner.
- Selects, trains and evaluates all personnel in the department.
- Responsible for maintaining monthly alcohol records.
- Assures that appropriate maintenance and certification of IV admixture area is performed.
- Supervises inventory and purchasing and assures that night carts, emergency boxes and crash carts are up-to-date.
- Serves as preceptor for Albany College of Pharmacy students during their rotation in the hospital.
- Represents the department as required, all interdepartmental meeting and/or committee assignments.
- Fulfills duties of a staff pharmacist as required.
- QUALITY
- Continually evaluates all activities to assure that standards of quality established by various regulating and/or accreditation agencies are met.
- Monitors and evaluates all distribution related activities via monthly productivity reports.
- Maintains ongoing medication monitoring in accordance with accrediting bodies and regulatory agencies mandates and are completed in a timely manner.
- Develops and oversees an ongoing system which monitors the quality and effectiveness of services provided, prepares and/or reviews periodic reports of the departments quality, quantity and productivity, and takes appropriate action to improve outcomes.
- CLINICAL: Develops and utilizes processes and procedures for assessing, tracking, analyzing, and responding to patient safety issues and concerns resulting in improved patient safety outcomes.NON-CLINICAL: Supports an overall Hospital and Departmental Culture of Safety by actively participating in all safety activities and educating staff regarding safety initiatives and concerns.
- FINANCIAL
- Submits Departmental Operations Variance reports in accordance with established guidelines to include a plan of action to correct.
- PERFORMS OTHER RELATED DUTIES AS REQUIRED. Fulfills in a positive manner and with attention to detail.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS |
- EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of three years Institutional Pharmacy experience with one (1) year in a supervisory capacity.
EDUCATION- B.S. Pharmacy or undergraduate PharmD plus graduate degree (M.S. or postgraduate PharmD.), ASHP accredited residency or equivalent in experience.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS- NYS License and current registration.
